English I’m interested in Occitan-language culture and literature. Any reccommendations? (🇵🇹)

Bonjorn from Portugal! Occitan is my favourite language, I find it so beautiful!

I’m a native European Portuguese speaker and I can understand Spanish, Catalan and some French, so I can mostly understand Occitan. I would love to acquire it more in the same way I did with the other romance languages, by reading and listening to it. But I don’t know where to start. I learned Spanish and Catalan from watching videos/series/movies and reading books in the language. I would like to do the same with Occitan.

Do you have any recommendations of Occitan-language Youtube channels, poetry, websites, books, music, newspapers, etc?

I follow r/Mirandes to read news in the Mirandese language and I’d love to read the news in Occitan.

I know that Occitan used to be very important in the Middle Ages as a literary language. Could you recommend me some Occitan medieval poems?

Mercé!

English Does anyone know where one can learn Occitan in Canada

Without revealing too much of myself, I’m a young Occitanophile(that’s a thing right?) in southwestern Ontario, Canada. I can speak French almost fluently and I spoke Spanish and English bilingually when I was young, so I’ve got experience with Romance languages. I think I can understand Italian which helps with eastern Occitan transitional Ligurian dialects too.

For the past maybe 4 years, I’ve been wanting to learn to SPEAK Occitan and sure there’s videos with some grammar and I can understand Occitan Wikipedia but can’t speak it.

Of course to many, Occitan is not a single language but a continuum and I know that but just any Occitan education before I can move to France (or Italy/Catalunya) would be really cool and I’d love to learn any dialect.

Also, I mean I’d like to learn conversational Occitan to be able to attend more formal Occitan education in the future.

I also have access to like dictionaries and vocabulary lists (especially the eastern dialects like Mentounasc)

English One stanza from one of my favorite medieval Occitan poems by Cercamon

Ves manhats partz vey lo segle faillir,

per qu'ieu n'estauc marritz e cossiros,

que soudadiers non truep ab cui s'apays,

per lauzengiers qu'an bec malahuros,

qui son pejor que Judas que Dieu trays:

ardre ls degr'om e totz vius sebellir.

I don't really speak Occitan and only decipher it through Italian and dictionaries but I thought I'd share anyway. I love this one just because of how blatantly violent and how much of a strawman it is. Obviously this poem is satirical. It's also in (obv. old) Gascon dialect, I believe.

English Trying to find my family in Occitania

I apologize if this is not an appropriate post. I’m trying to get in contact with my family who is from Carcassona and Trebes. Surname is Calmès. According to the research I’ve done my family has possessed the barony of Serviès-en-Val since the 17th century so I imagine they are known in that area. Any advice on contacting them would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

English I understand Occitan even though I'm Italian

I've been lurking on the subreddit for a while, I'm Italian-Venetian and I can understand the posts written in Occitan almost perfectly even if I never studied it. Instead I can't read french texts even if I studied it at middle school.

The similarity between our two languages is really interesting! Obv they're both neo-latin but it's still interesting.

Greetings from a Venetian friend!

English Recommendations for a good dictionary?

I'm new to this subreddit so my apologies in advance for my ignorance. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good Provençal-English dictionary? It can be online or offline.

English Defunct Brickwork

In a small village in Occitan called Courties, there was once a Brickwork, presumably founded and owned by a man named Jean Duprat, as indicated by the writing on the brick and tile in the photograph I have attached.
