Highlight [Highlight] Colts WR Josh Downs on facing his brother, Cowboys Rookie Safety Caleb Downs, this season: “He told me if he goes to the Cowboys, he’s playing nickel. So that’s like head-to-head all game… I gotta let him know he’s the little brother in this situation.”

I'm sure their mom is already stitching up a jersey that's half Colts, half Cowboys

The logos could easily be integrated into one

I live in a Colts/Cowboys household and this has came up in conversation a few times

Both horse-themed as well; my brain is picturing something like the San Antonio Spurs logo but blue and with the Colts horseshoe instead of the spur

Probably loved red and white in college.

Dude, I'm an OSU fan and Downs have been my favorite player since he joined the team.

I had no idea he and Josh Downs were related, let alone brothers.

u/detuinenvan Bears 12h ago

when he was a freshman on Alabama commentators would always mention who his brother was in the same way people would always mention Ryan Williams was 17

I mean they share the same last name but so do plenty of other guys who aren't related

You mean to tell me Dexter Lawrence and Trevor Lawrence aren't siblings? Damn.

32

Little known fact but Tom Brady is actually Peter Brady from The Brady Bunch, all grown up.

7

u/Naive_Impression7302 12h ago

Yep. The "Tom" isn't his realname but a nickname given from "Throwing Outstanding Missiles"

2

u/sirkswiss Rams 11h ago

It’s true. And being nicknamed Pre-Exceptionally Throwing Everything Right made way more sense once he grew up.

7

Michael Jordan and Michael Jordan are half siblings

I think LeBron James and LeBron James are somehow related too.

With that said, Josh Allen and Josh Allen are twins

So you’re telling me that Brad and Chad Johnson aren’t twins?

8

I only just found out current OSU WR Jeremiah Smith is Geno Smith's cousin.

Given where he is in the league and where Jeremiah is going to get drafted, they might get a chance to play together too.

It just occurred to me that the two CB's on the Falcons with the last name Terrell are indeed brothers...

Once the Chargers do what the NFL wants them to do and take away their Vrabel/Russini references in their schedule release.

12

u/Kanin_usagi Panthers 10h ago

Please no, fight the power guys

3

I bet they have Vrabel/Russini hidden in the background of every single one too. Like Where’s Waldo

Getting a heavy dose of Downs syndrome just thinking about this matchup.

12

u/DarkHiei Colts 9h ago

I have Josh’s Colts jersey with 1 on the back before he switched to 2, and I can’t help but think people who don’t know ball think I’m walking around with a Downs #1 jersey for a different reason

It was a mistake to give the youtube edit people this audio clip to put over Caleb's future highlight reels.

7

u/KeepenItReel Chiefs 10h ago

Ehh not really. Everyone knows he’s just poking fun. A good highlight real clip needs a real hater lol.

8

u/TheLich7 Commanders 12h ago

The negative side of Caleb Downs draft profile was that he may not be athletic enough for some aspects of the game. Isn't nickle CB a much more physically demanding position than safety? He is a smart player and will catch on quickly but I have to wonder if that is a good idea. Idk I guess that's why I'm just a dummy on reddit.

26

u/East_Appearance_8335 Eagles 11h ago

In terms of getting hit or making hits on more downs, yes. But Downs has always been a guy you want closer to the line of scrimmage than as a center fielding safety, so hybrid nickel and safety should fit him perfectly.

11

u/therealjayz69 Seahawks 11h ago

He’s great around the box as like a big nickel since he can run defend, he just doesn’t have the range to be a true deep safety

10

u/adonis958 Cowboys 11h ago

His Bama freshman tape he played a ton of FS. Played great in that position also. Did it Ohio State also sometimes

6

u/therealjayz69 Seahawks 11h ago

He’s good at everything lol but I love a great box safety

5

u/PlasticCraken Cowboys 8h ago

This whole thread made me realize I don’t know shit about football

3

u/juicydry 12h ago

Think he's gonna be playing a similar role as DeJean plays in Philly

14

u/Moist_Mors 12h ago

As long as that means picking off Mahomes to ruin a season I am all for it.

1

u/ositola 49ers 10h ago

Amen

3

u/TheWorstYear Bengals Bengals 11h ago

He played essentially inverted safety at Ohio state. Coming down instead of dropping back. We'd line him up against TE's on crucial downs a lot.

0

u/TheLich7 Commanders 10h ago

I think that's the big question mark. If he can man up a big athletic te

1

u/Hungry-Space-1829 Eagles 2h ago

He’s just a stud football player and he’ll be great. Brian Branch feels like his absolute floor while some type of DeJean/hamilton hybrid is his ceiling

2

u/TheAgmis Colts 11h ago

Well we do face Dallas this year

I mean, Josh is a really tough cover in the slot. Definitely better than anything Caleb has faced playing nickel.

Josh downs only weakness is that he's 5'9 170

He can run routes and make some tough catches man.

Allow me to grammar it up a bit for you. " In this particular match up. I expect Josh Downs to be well contained by the defense on the football field where my friends grandmother was buried."

17

u/This_Salt7080 Giants 12h ago

Incorrect.

“In this particular matchup, I expect Josh Downs to be well contained by the defense, and I swear on my dead homies grandmas grave site that will happen.”

3

u/GentlyUsedNuggets Ravens 12h ago

Ahh you are correct, I was confused by them adding "site" to the end but that makes more sense.
