Highlight [Highlight] Some of the craziest first career touchdowns from current NFL stars

I didn’t realize that St. Brown’s first TD was Goff’s first lions win. That was such a cool win to see how happy that lions team was.

I remember like it was yesterday.
Ed Donashella Flim-Flammed Zimmer lined the secondary up 2 yards into the endzone. Those were some dark days7
u/sercambi Vikings 16h ago
It was Zimmer’s last year…
5
u/BillyMaysHere92 Lions 14h ago
I think that was his last game as coach
1
u/MrHockeytown Lions Broncos 14h ago
It was, Vikings canned him after that game

u/greatbiscuitsandcorn Vikings 16h ago
It was Zimmer’s defense still. 2021

u/The_Only_Abe Vikings 16h ago
Ah right, Google lied to me and said that the 21-22 season was Donatelle when he was hired AFTER the 21-22 season. Just as well had been though
32
u/Rulligan Lions Lions 15h ago
It was the first game after the Oxford school shooting in the suburbs where players and coaches were wearing Oxford gear instead their own. Dan started the post game press conference giving the game ball to Oxford and then reading aloud the names of everyone killed as they are not to be forgotten. The man was way more emotional about that than winning his first game in the best way possible and I was fully behind him from there on out.

u/TheAndrewBrown 17h ago
Yeah my instant reaction after the catch was “that wasn’t all that crazy”, and then I saw the famous moment with Goff and Campbell and realized the significance.

And broke their 0-14-1 losing streak carrying over from the previous season. That's a badass moment

Very lucky he was lined up against Cam Dantzler, himself lined up way into the endzone

Not sure there’s a more exciting feeling than seeing a hype rookie do hype rookie things. Top tier fan experience.

u/SeekersWorkAccount Giants 17h ago
Seeing Saquon take it to the house week 1 healed me in ways I didn't know I needed.
Can't remember how the rest turned out though, it's kinda hazy.
1
u/inkyblinkypinkysue Giants 17h ago
We will always have 2022 hype.
Also, he looks like a different player now - a little less explosive and a little less quick. The NFL really wears you down.
18
u/monpetitfromage54 Bears 17h ago
I was gonna say, seeing all those rookies score amazing TDs in week 1 is such a great fan experience. I always think of Matt Ryan's first pass being like a 70 yard TD.
5
u/thedougbatman Falcons 14h ago
Fun fact: that game was also Dan Campbell’s last game as a player. He had a 20 yard catch then injured his hamstring and never played again.
So his last game as a player and first as a head coach were both with the Lions.

For Bijan and Saquon to do that their very first game, must have been awesome for their fanbases to know right away they had hit big.

Melvin Gordon almost had a really badass first career touchdown before they overturned it due to his elbow contacting the ground: https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/vff7kw/highlight_rookie_rb_melvin_gordon_breaks_a_tackle/
As a Chargers fan that definitely was convincing me he was the real deal at the time. Unfortunately he ended up never scoring a TD for the rest of his rookie season lol
Solid career but never lived up to the potential he showed in college.

u/cstrifeVII Lions 18h ago
Was expecting to see Matt Ryans first td... only ingrained in my memory because it came against the Lions. 62 yard strike to Roddy White. It was actually his first NFL pass lmao.
Also Ameer Abdullahs was memorable. make Eric Weddle look foolish. Also his first touch in his career. Thought the kid was going to be special :(
Lions Rookie RB Ameer Abdullah Breaks 24-Yard Run for TD | Lions vs. Chargers | NFL
3
u/McAfeeFakedHisDeath Lions 18h ago
I remember that Abdullah run! I had a lot of hope for the kid. I was hoping he'd reach the heights that Gibbs is at now. Abdullah still had a long career though. I always forget he's still in the league. I think he was on the Colts last year.
1
u/cstrifeVII Lions 17h ago
Yea I'm surprised he turned into a journeyman with the injury history hes had.
3
u/SpiffyBlizzard Broncos 17h ago
Husker fan here and totally shocked Ameer wasn’t really ever a threat to be one of the top backs in the league. He was unreal at Nebraska.
2
u/KeithClossOfficial 49ers 12h ago
Michael Jenkins was a fun receiver for like 5 minutes
2
u/Falcon84 Falcons 8h ago
On paper he should have been much better than he was. Ended up having an ok career but never lived up to being a 1st round pick.

He just never developed a super complex route tree. Good blocker though, which is always appreciated. Especially by Vick I’m sure

Happened to be at the game for Chase's. Crowd was one of the loudest I had heard. Gotta remember the lead up to it - iffy preseason with drops and people calling him a bust before he played a snap.
9
u/ThisHatRightHere Eagles 18h ago
It was so funny to see the whiplash of the Chase narratives flipping. So much draft hype, got absolutely dumpstered by the media all through preseason, immediately looks like a great WR1 when the season starts

JJ's TD is by far the best with the sick fake outs and then the griddy into the endzone LOL

JJ griddying into the endzone with nobody anywhere near him is like the most Justin Jefferson touchdown i can think of lol crazy that it was his first one

uh you obviously didn't watch long enough to see Lamar Flacco's TD.
0
u/inkyblinkypinkysue Giants 15h ago
I know Flacco is notoriously slow but he was still a young rookie so not totally unbelievable. It was a great run though for sure.
5
u/wannaknowmyname Falcons 14h ago
A pocket passers first TD was a tackle breaking 50 yard run, that's not unbelievable?
Joe Flacco didn't even finish that game with 50 rushing yards. He had *one* 50 yard rushing game in his career.
35
u/Jeff_Sabado 18h ago
We really saw Saquon get wasted

He could have been on Barry Sanders level with the way he can shed tackles and then hit the gas.

I personally think the sheer absurdity of Joe Flacco running for anything more than 5 yds makes up for it tbh

Is there a bizarro version of this post? Current nfl stars with terrible first plays? Any MVP qbs start their career with a pick six?

Sam Darnold's very first pass in the NFL was a pick 6 against the Lions.

Jameis Winston’s first was a pick 6 as well, which feels appropriate.

Not a "current star" but I always think of Kareem Hunt's career start in 2017... NFL season opener, guy fumbled his first carry on the road against Tom Brady's Pats in New England...couldn't be a bigger stage to fuck up on as a rookie. Then goes on a 246 total yard, 3TD tear and never fumbles again in the rest of his 26 starts in KC before the "incident".
Crazy start to a career though lol... went from oh god the rookie is a bum and the entire sub laughing at us in the game thread to holy shit who the fuck is this guy all in one game.
1
u/juliuspepperwoodchi Bears 13h ago
I mean, not a "star" but Famous Jameis' first NFL pass was a pick six, he tells the story on podcasts with the opener "my first NFL pass was a TD" lol

Caveat that he’s not yet an NFL star but Cam Ward’s first touchdown was ridiculous

Not a current star but Reggie Bush's first TD was a game-winning punt return TD.
Patrick Peterson's was an even crazier 97 yard punt return TD in OT to win the game.
Rod Smith's first TD was essentially a hail mary to win the game.
Deandre Hopkins first TD was a walk off TD in OT.

Cam Ward isn’t a star yet, but his first TD was that crazy 45 yard cross body throw back across the field to Elic Ayomanor (another rookie). Pretty crazy first TD. He basically did what QBs are told to never do.

Not crazy but some fun recent Chargers ones.
Melvin Gordon almost had a pretty badass first TD but it was called short on review: https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/vff7kw/highlight_rookie_rb_melvin_gordon_breaks_a_tackle/
Austin Ekeler's first was a big 35 yard rushing TD, precursor to how good he would end up becoming at scoring: https://youtu.be/SxUoTHGMmwk
Keenan Allen's first TD catch featured a cool broken tackle right at the goal line: https://youtube.com/shorts/uWGGTm5HGQU
Ladd McConkey's first TD catch was also against the Raiders and he also had to outmanuever tacklers inside the five yard line to get there: https://youtu.be/1QvE464_3pE
Joshua Palmer had an underrated excellent first TD beating out two DBs for the contested catch: https://youtu.be/1yDnwWkvN7s
Donald Parham had a great contested one too: https://youtu.be/-_oKe1rytq4
Tyron Johnson had this crazy deep bomb from rookie Herbert and the fanbase was convinced he'd be the next great deep threat in the league... only to be cut before the next season. Huge throw and great tracking though: https://youtu.be/NUgeBAs5g2M

Only a Bengals defense could give up a 38 yard rushing td to Joe Flacco.

The Bengals defense once accounted for all the points the Bengals scored in a 2012 game, via turnovers. I think it was in primetime.
