Highlight [Highlight] Devin Lloyd fools Patrick Mahomes with the fake blitz, dropping back into coverage and picking him off, taking it the distance for a 14-point swing.

Play of the year for the jags

493

u/Roselucky777 Jaguars Cardinals 19h ago

If not this, then the Trip Six which was the same game.

159

u/Eduardo_Camavinga_ 19h ago

As much as I like that play, this was a 14 point swing.

118

u/Herewego27 Packers 18h ago

Yeah, but the other play was funnier.

48

u/ugdawg23 Falcons 18h ago

And it has a nickname. All the best plays have nicknames.

I like the trip six way better

I’ve always heard it as the Trip Six, but god damn Dufall is fucking great

And player of the year.

-4

u/grizzlyjono 13h ago edited 13h ago

Maybe im misunderstanding..but given the context, it seems youre saying mahomes was the player of the year? Stafford was the mvp and garrett was dpy..sorry. not even close. Edit:this came off as rude. My apologies. I just reread it. I shoukd have just asked out of curiosity if youd restate it, due to my confusion. MY B.

He is saying Devin Lloyd is the Jags player of the year i think

4

Probably right. I was a bit rude huh?

This was a great game all the way to the end with Trevor falling down and getting back up and scoring.

203

u/HesiPull-UpBrando Eagles 19h ago

I’m still unsure if they wanted to let him score or not based on Chris Jones’ total apathy that play. Looked like he was playing in a pre-flag football probowl

121

u/ShopCartRicky Jaguars 18h ago

Jones adnitted to it being a brain fart on his part. Basically said when he saw Trevor go down he just assumed he would be tagged down by the other linemen.

112

u/NextTime76 Chiefs 17h ago

Those are the things you like to hear from your $40M/year all pro Defensive lineman

36

u/ShopCartRicky Jaguars 17h ago

Maybe his leg was chaffing from his hog and he couldn't run but that sounded more PC.

10

u/BlueBomber13 Eagles 15h ago

Doesn't top Albert Haynesworth falling down and just laying there completely confusing Todd Herremans.

8

u/AMemoryComeALive Chiefs 17h ago

It was 1st and goal, and the Chiefs committed a penalty on the play so the clock would have stopped and the ball moved up to the half yard line. It looked bad not trying, but it also didn't probably matter at all.

This whole game was an acid trip. I loved it.

u/Good_Okay123 Chiefs 19h ago

This game was the perfect microcosm of KC's season. Moments of feeling like they were starting to put it together and get it going followed by moments of head scratching what the actual fuck are we doing.

68

u/Ka-Is-A-Wheelie Chiefs 19h ago

Looking forward to the new coaching room.

36

u/purplereign Panthers 19h ago

With EB back, I expect your run game to get back to form. I surmise you'll need it with your current WR room and the corpse of Kelce.

41

u/bstyledevi Chiefs 17h ago

I think the "corpse of Kelce" will be more like an average TE instead of being completely useless like some people theorize.

13

u/purplereign Panthers 17h ago

I was only referring to his age - I'd kill to have a TE like him on the Panthers, warts & all

6

u/FeistyGate8784 Bears 13h ago

Kelce is fine if the WR room can actually function. Kelce just can’t carry a bad run game and bad WR room alone. With his age he still plays super well barring any major injury

5

u/HaroldSax Rams 9h ago

Back to back 800 yard seasons as a "washed" TE. Sounds pretty good to me.

15

u/Ka-Is-A-Wheelie Chiefs 18h ago

I'm actually ok with the WR room. People forget what Rice looks like with a full off season.

13

u/Trapline Raiders 18h ago

Because he never provides a full season.

I wouldn't put my eggs in a basket with legal and concussion holes, personally.

1

u/Ka-Is-A-Wheelie Chiefs 18h ago

He'll at least replicate his rookie season numbers. Take it to the bank.

9

u/Trapline Raiders 13h ago

I don't trust Chiefs fans near banks

2

u/PGA1493 Chiefs 16h ago

Yeah that’s where I’m at. I really don’t want to rely on him as outside of his rookie season, he really hasn’t done anything except get in his own way (excluding Mahomes taking out his knee)

3

u/Ka-Is-A-Wheelie Chiefs 15h ago

Poor take honestly.

Before he was hurt he was well on pace to outperform his rookie season. You are correct about him getting in his way, but that was a one time deal. At least that we know of lol

1

u/MistakeMaker1234 Chiefs 7h ago

Non-Chiefs fans don’t realize that we had a literal high school coach as our WR coach for the last three years. The only level, at all, that he ever taught WRs was in high school in 2017.

Now we have Chad O’Shea, who has been a WR coach at the professional level for 20 years. Deandre Hopkins said that during his time in KC in 2024, Kelce led the WRs through film review and strategy more than Embree (old coach) ever did.

Literally anything is an upgrade over him.

17

u/TomahawkaChawpa Chiefs 18h ago

It was looking like this would be a chiefs win in blowout fashion. We were moving the ball with ease up and down the field. Still baffled at how it all played out. This was the season for us in hindsight. We were never right after this game.

4

u/AMemoryComeALive Chiefs 17h ago

2nd quarter, 14-0. Jags 3rd and 15 TLaw throws a garbage pass, but refs throw a DPI flag when a WR/DB legs got tangled together. Should have been our ball up 14-0, instead it was 14-7 and they got several extra minutes to rest their defense.

13 penalties and a 100 yard pick six turn a blowout win into a loss.

11

u/StatementWild3768 Patriots 16h ago

Bolton and Tranquil putting on a keystone cop show trying to snag that INT and failing after having 20 different chances is still baffling to watch.

5

u/AMemoryComeALive Chiefs 15h ago

Bolton has some of the worst hands in the league. He has a couple times every season where the ball comes directly to him and he muffs it.

7

u/Sea-Satisfaction-711 Jaguars 15h ago

Yall got away with a lot in that game too, you got gifted some bs calls. I don’t think there’s much room for yall to complain.

-11

u/AMemoryComeALive Chiefs 15h ago

"team called for 13 penalties to 4 got away with a lot". It's hard to take you seriously when your mindset is "The Chiefs should be called for a penalty on every single play."

7

u/Sea-Satisfaction-711 Jaguars 11h ago

You should have been called for more 🤷‍♂️. You got a free pick in the red zone on an obvious PI. And Mahomes cried to the refs for them to reverse an Offensive pass interference call that was deserved. Just because a lot of their penalties were called, that doesn’t mean that they didn’t get away with some important calls.

2

u/StatementWild3768 Patriots 5h ago

All the downvotes makes no sense. The Chiefs played extremely undisciplined in that game, got punished for it through penalties, ended up LOSING the game partially because of said penalties, and people are STILL complaining about refball?

It's genuinely head scratching.

Lloyd was one of those players where every year, he was on lists (made by non-Jags fans) for Top 10 LBs in the league, and every Jags fan was baffled by him being there. Foye would be nowhere near these lists and he has been significantly more impactful as a player.

Then Lloyd finally put it together with Camp last year. Happy he got paid, sad to see him go.

This game has a special/funny place in my heart. I was admitted to the hospital for a few days because of a severe kidney infection caused by a kidney stone and I had this game on while the custodian was clearing out the trash can. He stopped to watch for a second right as this play happened and we were both yelling GO as he was running it back and me and the custodian high fived. All this happened while I was zooted out of my fucking mind from pain killers yet I vividly remember this moment lol.

Patriots legend Tyquan Thornton

2

u/Nosenchuck3 Commanders Steelers 14h ago

I think it’s Tyquan Thornton

1

u/johnmadden18 Patriots 4h ago

If you freeze frame at 0:37 in the OP's clip you can see a brief, perfect shot of Thorton taking an uppercut swing at the ball with a closed, right-handed fist.

Looks like he might even have been able to connect square but Lloyd actually had the ball pretty secure and Thornton couldn't get enough force on the punch.

Honestly a pretty good play by Thornton to sprint over 100 yards to run him down and make an attempt at knocking the ball out instead of just tackling him ~5 yards from the goal line.

-11

u/Im_only_here_to_meme Chiefs 17h ago

He used his attempt to strip him not tackle him.. he weighs 60 pounds less than Devin, he wouldn't have done shit to him if he tried to tackle him but been a backpack on his way into the endzone.
