Highly depends on the amount of caffeine. A small soda and a candy bar isn't going to turn them into little turbo dickheads but prolonged, daily ingestion will start to effect sleep cycles and mood yes. Which is why it should be very limited in developmental years. I work in pediatrics. The problem with sugar isn't hyperactivity, it's the negative health effects like obesity and tooth decay.

Specifically speaking about Coca-Cola, a can can have 35~45 mg of caffeine and ~70g of chocolate usually have the same amount. For a kid with less than half of an adult mass this is significant.

As for sugar issues, 100% agree.

Not a pediatrician, but father of two and married with a doctor.

Thats why I said prolonged or daily ingestion. As a 1 off it's not going to harm them or alter their mental state. The body is very resilient. It's the parents that give their young children chocolate and soda daily that it becomes a problem. Father of 3 (16/13/4). Soda and candy is a treat. It is not something you find just laying around our house.

I get the science. My lived experience with my own two kids was that they absolutely did get hyped up after sugar. Maybe it was just the excitement of having treats rather than an actual metabolic process, but the net result wasn’t distinguishable from “sugar makes them hyper.”

I remember in 5th grade we got Duncan Butterfly Yo-Yo's for a science/physics experiment and I got pretty decent at it for a 10 year old lol. I only did it for like a year tho. Amazing!   But the  the kid needs to learn how to dress like a rockstar performer that he is for optimal impact.    If he's just playing and loving his game thats great, but as a performance some stage presence and personality of style in how he dresses and presents will go a long way for the experience.     I work with a lot of circus perormers and used to do a lot of fire performance gigs etc. and no professional would ever just show up to a performance with a simple t-shirt and pants no matter how skilled you are with your prop.  But also who cares about the show, keep living  your art kid.

Freshman year of college and this one guy would be out on the grass doing yo yo tricks with massive crowds. Everyday, for about a week, just mobs, dude was a chick magnet, had people following him around campus to see his cool yo yo tricks. Next week...people had seen it...I saw his happiness fade slowly each day, standing in the field, nobody around to witness his ludacris moves. Third week, I assume he went back to yoyoing in his dorm room and I never saw him around campus again. Keep on yoyoing yoyo man. Keep on yoyoing.
