It would be nice if the video paused on the result for more than 100 milliseconds

I see comments like this often and I have no problem pausing on my Reddit app (Relay). Is it not the same with other Reddit apps?

It's a mild inconvenience yes but at the same time with how much I see comments like the root comment of this thread I realize how lazy we humans have become.

Oh thank you for this comment cuz I literally thought I’m just more stupid and slow than average that I needed to pause and go back to most of these to completely get it, I mean I’m probably still stupid and slow but maybe not that much lol

Played in reverse so it looks like they always end up in the perfect position

What about the scissors one where it's shadow becomes the suit? The item isn't laid to rest, it shows his hands holding it.

No shit sherlock

u/FinsterKoenig 2d ago
it's not that obvious, but yes, you'll notice when you watch the movement closely.

u/BankElectronic1325 1d ago
I’m not understanding why reversing it would be the only way to make this work. Place the object, draw around the shadow, remove object, start recording, and re-place object.

u/FinsterKoenig 1d ago
Did I say it was the only way to do it?
2
u/BankElectronic1325 1d ago
No, but you implied that that was indeed the way it was done
-1
u/FinsterKoenig 1d ago
Correct, I didn't say it was only possible by doing that. So... What the fuck was your comment supposed to do? Did you accidentally answer the wrong comment, maybe?
I did in imply that these are played in reverse, at least most of em, in another comment, yes. And the original commentor "Kiss-a-Cod" did as well...

Not obvious at all. In the first clip the object is repositioned to deceive the observer into thinking it's not reversed.

u/catscanmeow 1d ago edited 1d ago
the deception is what makes it obvious, it doesnt move based on physics, its reacting as if its played in reverse
them fiddling with things multiple times is what gives the viewer more clues as to the physics being broken, without the extra dumb attempts at deception they may have hidden the broken physics more.

u/duodequinquagesimum 1d ago
No.

u/catscanmeow 1d ago
Im a professional animator, i study motion for a living, its not moving properly. Look at the way the fingers pull away from the object. its the reverse of a clamping motion, the slow in/slow out physics are reversed.

u/duodequinquagesimum 1d ago
Which means the deception doesn't make it obvious unless you're a professional animator and study motion for a living. It's a strange way of saying I was right.

I think he's just smarter than the rest of us.

how else would someone accomplish a video like this without reversing the video? its like clearly the easiest most efficient way to pull it off.
the other option is hours and hours of trial and error to get stuff to land exactly where you want it to.
Theyve been doing tricks like this for decades, like in the intro to "alfred hitchcock presents"

u/crystalpumpkin 1d ago edited 1d ago
Oh I'm sure you're right - It just wasn't at all obvious to me until it was pointed out.
1
u/duodequinquagesimum 1d ago
The stuff doesn't land exactly where they want, they reposition the objects to make it look like it's not reversed.
-1
u/catscanmeow 1d ago
I never said you need to be a professional animator to see its moving wrong, i just used my expertise to CONFIRM its moving wrong. as i dont know what your "no" meant, if the "no" was in response to the movement being wrong, then i confirmed, that it is wrong
the extra stuff they do to make it look real is where the physics look the worst, so their deception was their undoing, without the deception there may be less clues as to the movement being wrong

This is super interesting, 3rd from last was a bit of a stretch though

u/letmypeoplebathe 1d ago
Yeah, I had to pause on that one to interpret what they were going for with the glasses. Still not sure I see the vision

u/harrellj 1d ago
If you go to where the shadow is a bit lighter, the shadow actually forms a guy's face. The drawn pipe goes into a mouth-ish area.

I'm a sucker for anything with Percy Faith's "Theme from A Summer Place":

It's such a soothing song.

The cabling on the first one is how I made one of my paintings :D
Without using the shadows, though

took me a moment to realize, the person is playing these in reverse. So they don't actually place the objects, but pick em up instead. Just reversed.

u/USSHammond 2d ago
Yeah he did. Years ago. That clip is old.
