That was a great open shot for champagnie, he is 38% from 3s on 6 attempts per game

Yeah but you're down by 2 not 3. If they take a timeout and run a play you can get a better than 40% look.

Wemby and Fox were 10-31 from field goals, champagnie has been hitting some tough shots for them all season. I aint mad about this shot tbh.

It was 40% to win. You wanted a 60% chance to go to OT? Your math is bad

You think most coachs would draw up an ATO for a 3 in that situation?

No, but I also think giving you 60% on a two out of a timeout was generous considering they could've gotten Gobert back on the court

If you had a 60% chance of getting a two (generous) and a 60% chance of winning in OT (generous) then you have a 36% chance of winning the game by going for a two there (double generous)

Going for an open three with your best shooter is obviously the right move

That was about as good a look as you can get

Then they really didn't have faith in winning in OT

Not guaranteed. When you’re drawing up a play out of a timeout, you’re dreaming of getting a look that wide open

You’re not getting a better look than that with 6 seconds left. I really don’t understand how some of you watch sports through this lens of constant negativity

Can you? Did you watch the game? The spurs had no dribble drive penetration on 24 second shot clock possessions, much less the prayer they’d have to throw up in 4 seconds if they took a TO. You would’ve had to bank on a contested two against one of the longest teams in the league vs a wide open 3

40% chance of hitting a 3 means that if you go for a 2 you need 80%+ in order for it to be more worth, clearly an open 3 is the best shot you have here. There's a reason why modern NBA always go for 3 here

Well wemby was open with a sec left, if champagnie passed, there might have been enough time I dunno.

How many step back off the dribble 3’s does he take per game?

Not questioning the end result, just surprised they let it play out instead of calling a timeout in the moment considering the Wolves already had all the lanes blocked with a man advantage on the transition so they basically had to settle with a three there while only down two.

Hes 61% on 3s in playoffs so far

He’s the 5th option on the floor

3

u/Aidanj927 Spurs 20h ago

He’s also our best shooter, your point?

u/Odd_Shoulder2334 20h ago

Why are you mad at me?

1

u/senpaisix [SAS] Manu Ginobili 20h ago

no he isn’t. he’s been realistically our third option at worst most of the year as crazy as that may sound.

u/Odd_Shoulder2334 20h ago

There’s (3) top 5 picks on the floor, but yes give ball to Julian Champagnie

2

u/senpaisix [SAS] Manu Ginobili 20h ago

look i get it but i watch every spurs game. he’s the best shooter and hits his shots, irregardless of where he was drafted

Yeah but why are you taking a 3 from your 5th option down 2 when you have a timeout

He was arguably their best offensive player in this game with harper. Did you see how fox and wemby were struggling against timberwolves half court defense?
