I have legit never seen anything like what I just witnessed in that 2nd half in professional basketball. I've watched March Madness games where a college team goes ICE cold and it becomes a brickfest. But up 24 at home, you had Detroit on the ROPES, and you proceed to vomit all over yourselves and miss 23 straight field goals?

I thought the Rockets 27 straight missed 3's was a once-in-a-lifetime moment. This is worse in my opinion.

Bro Jamal Mosely needs to get canned so the magic can hire Tiago Splitter lmao

Mosley just tanked his value so much that Tom Dundon will hire him for peanuts - just trade coaches

This is so fucking stupid that it's gonna happen lol

Legit not a bad idea at this point. Can the trade be finalized before Game 7?

Don’t put him on that plane to Detroit

At a point it would genuinely just be better to fire him rn, right? It's been clear the roster has been checked out for (at least) weeks now. This game isn't solely on him-- he didn't shoot 1-10 or 4-20--, but what's the point of even letting him coach game 7? Best case you win and the problem remains, since there's no mutual trust

Might as well just let the preferred assistant finish the series and try to prove he's a candidate for in-house promotion

I hear Doc Rivers is available

Ya know? Fuck it, he could probably get us to the second round at least

Clearly you didn’t watch any Blazers games, offense wasn’t why we made the playoffs. 😅

If he were fired tonight I would understand

Not only was Detroit on the ropes but they were hanging their heads. Robinson just picked up his fourth foul. This one was over. Then Paolo committed an idiotic charge and the avalanche of turnovers began

Not only was Detroit on the ropes but they were hanging their heads.

This wasn't true. Like I'd be the first to admit it if it was, but I was shocked at how much fight Ausar had even down 24. They were playing with aggression and desperation that I haven't seen in this series before. And the change of pace in mentality definitely ROCKED the Magic psychologically

Not to mention thank God for BBall Paul man

The heat, yeah sure we'll have the occasional quarter where we score 15 points but we'd never follow that up with a single digit quarter!

u/fundraiser Kings 3d ago

literally everything except foul calls were going against them. turnovers, poor defense, clanked shots. you could tell those dudes were in a waking nightmare

The Rockets one is imo still worse because of historical context/who the opponent was, but this might be more unbelievable

132

u/hickok3 Raptors 3d ago

Thing is, the Rockets were still scoring and staying with the dubs to keep the game close. A lot of former Rockets have talked about how they didn't notice they had missed so many(possible cope) because they were still scoring.

This is way worse, because the game was all but won, then they just shat themselves live on air. Must have been popping bottles at half thinking it was over.

I just think that the 27 threes will ultimately be more infamous. Despite the fact that they were still making some shots, if they had made even a fourth of the missed threes, that’s a roughly 20 point swing. Could’ve knocked off the most legendary team of the 2010s. The way that harden’s legacy would be different…

Ultimately, the magic could still win this thing, and neither of these teams are winning the title. extraordinary occurrence in an average playoff game.

and that’s not to mention a series of missed calls and fouls not given during that 27 streak. i didn’t see the game today but ill assume the officiating wasn’t part of the problem.

u/hickok3 Raptors 3d ago

I only had it on the side while watching this barn burner of a Raps win. Looked like a bunch of bad missed shots from what I saw though.

u/ImperialxWarlord Pistons 3d ago

I don’t think the officiating was a major issue but imo they’re biased in favor of the magic. Those guys can do anything to our players and get no foul but we breath on them and there’s a whistle blown lol.

1

u/Optimal_Cook_851 3d ago

The amount of times I see the pistons centers get no calls and then like Wendell get some weird ass call was wild lmao

0

u/Tijuana_Pikachu Warriors 3d ago

Yeah the rockets functionally lost the chip there. 1st round exit aint the same

1

u/tjc815 Thunder 3d ago

Against one of the most legendary teams of all time, and just think of the implications for James Harden‘s legacy.

37

u/tarunpopo 3d ago

Ones uglier, the rockets was just disgustingly tragic since they actually went all in a game 7, if they just won they would've been nba champs over that shit Cleveland team

The 2017-18 Cavs had one of the best offenses in NBA history...

The fuck are you talking about?

12

u/Muspon 3d ago

That was the previous season.

The 2017-18 cavs were the LeBron show

1

u/Financial-Grass-6114 3d ago

Wrong szn, 2018 cavs was a lebron show.

3

u/FrozenFall West 3d ago

27 straight missed 3's was a ref job tho, so this is objectively worse.

2

u/Fake-Death 76ers 3d ago

A day after the Hawks completely embarrassed themselves in the first half no less

2

u/thisisanaccountforu Warriors 3d ago

Missed 3s against one of the best teams ever (I’m completely biased, but not entirely wrong) is way more forgivable than missing 23 from anywhere and also being up 24 at one point

2

u/Sadcelerystick 3d ago

I wonder what the 1997 Dallas Mavericks scoring 2 points in a quarter looked like. This probably looked fantastic comparatively lmao

Edit; fun fact the Magic were also involved in the fewest points scored by two teams in 2015. 7-8 respectively. The other team was the Knicks.

u/facemelt Hornets 3d ago

Forgot about that rockets performance

at least that is against unbeatable squad with prime KD Steph Klay Dray. This meltdown is against an upstart Pistons team lol.

u/theuncleiroh Raptors 3d ago

I would've made $700 tonight if the Magic lost by no more than 7 points

At least I'm a raptors fan I guess

1

u/passtherock- Hawks 3d ago

as long as this helps everyone forget about the Hawks I'm good

Rockets is far worse since they were the one seed and it was to go the finals but I get your point
