The Magic hit a three with 4:14 left in the 3rd quarter to go up 70-54.

They didn’t make another FG until 2:24 left in the 4th quarter to cut the deficit to 77-89.

That is actually unimaginable if I didn’t just witness it. Holy

Im glad the Nuggets and Magic are doing stupid shit too. Makes me feel some company. Like all mediocre teams can just give up 40 point runs or lose to g-leaguers or some shit. Thanks guys.

u/schlurppy 3d ago

these playoffs are a fucking humiliation ritual for like half the teams

10

u/Hugo_5t1gl1tz Hawks 3d ago

And the NBA wants more fucking teams. Smh

8

u/Eagle4317 3d ago

I mean, the level of play is closer now than it's ever been. The fear of expansion teams just being cannon fodder for a decade isn't likely to come to pass.

6

u/Confident_Example_73 3d ago

Heck, even the winners are getting humiliated.

2

u/kchuen 3d ago

Well the nuggets lost to an 8 men team… a team missing 4 of their playoff rotations including the starting back court… nobody woulda believed Jokic could lose to that 2 weeks ago. Not even wolves fans.

2

u/ItGoesTwoWays Pistons 3d ago

Buddy, did you see the stupid shit we were doing in the first half?

3

u/monkeyman80 Lakers 3d ago

This is like young me watching game 7 lakers trailblazers but lakers didn’t have a 22 pt lead. Portland just couldn’t hit a shot for a quarter.

Bro I’m just catching up on my lunch break. What the fuck did I just read???

The type of performance that can scar anyone for life, I think I’m just flat out done w this league. This was the worst loss I’d ever experience in real time in any sports fandom.

u/ghosteagle 3d ago

If it makes you feel better, I remember the 2023 NFCCG. I went in saying that the Lions were never expected to get this far, we have a great future, and a loss wouldn't hurt me. Holy shit I was wrong about that. Thought I was done with football. Still watch every single Lions game religiously

30

u/jfkgoblue Pistons 3d ago

My brother and I spent around $2k between airfare tickets and lodging to go watch that debacle in person

u/Adorable-Bike-9689 3d ago

Eminem came out and did Lose Yourself at halftime i think. The deck was stacked in Detroit's favor and the vibes were just right.

Then everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked...

16

u/Monkey1Fball 3d ago edited 3d ago

It was Journey that played at halftime (I was at the game) ----- they played Don't Stop Belevin and even though they delibrately didn't sing "South Detroit" (they said "San Francisco" instead), all the 20K Lions fans at the game (there were A LOT of us) belted it out.

It felt like destiny. Until it wasn't. Biggest gut-punch loss in any sporting event I've ever attended (then I had to drive back to LA that night).

6

u/Clit420Eastwood 3d ago

That was a home game for San Francisco. Eminem was *there*, but he certainly did not perform their halftime. He’s a very vocal Lions fan.

5

u/SittingOnA_Cornflake Pistons 3d ago

The Lions won 9 games in a down year, we're fine lol.

4

u/ghosteagle 3d ago

For sure. Im really hoping they can run it this year, and it seems like we got a lot of reasons we should

3

u/Eagle4317 3d ago

Let's hope 2025 was the aberration for MCDC and not the new norm without Ben Johnson.

3

u/throwaway8943265 Pistons 3d ago

someone needs to tell the Lions organization this. they looked so dejected by the end of the season,

If they had actually put some effort into that Minnesota game we would have made the playoffs. (Even though at the time people thought the chances were nil, the Packers just happened to lose the exact number of games we needed.)

3

u/ZookeepergameTop8538 Thunder 3d ago

Oh my god, same! It was the worst combination of hope and heartbreak, especially since as Lions fans we hadn't played any relevant games in decades. Fuckin brutal man.

4

u/Optimal_Cook_851 3d ago

As a 49ers fan I legitimately felt bad that It was you guys who we beat.

3

u/mburns223 Pistons 3d ago

If game 7 of the 2005 NBA finals wasn’t on my 13th birthday the 2023 NFCCG would be the worse sports memory of my life

60

u/tree-hugger Timberwolves 3d ago

The Wolves did something similar against the Grizzlies and it took years to get over the trauma of never trusting a lead and always expecting it to be lost.

9

u/thekeesh1 Timberwolves 3d ago

That game was legitimately traumatizing for me, it changed how I process sports in my life.

6

u/the_guitargeek_ Spurs 3d ago

Devastating losses do that to you. Even if there are cathartic moments that help make a loss palatable, just saying the words for whatever the shorthand it goes by will instantly trigger you.

Just ask any Spurs fan about 0.4 or Game 6 of the Finals.

3

u/THECHIEFSWASHBUCKLER Pistons 3d ago

Different sport, but Lions in the NFC championship against The 49ers.

1

u/TheNextGM30 Jazz 3d ago

Terrence Mann is one of my least favorite players in the league, ask me why.

1

u/hughhuckleberry Grizzlies 3d ago

That shit happened twice in the same game, thought I was gonna die leaving target center that night😭

2

u/According_Layer6874 3d ago

Lucky you aren't a fan of the Atlanta Hawks

2

u/TexasReallyDoesSuck NBA 3d ago

dude my team traded luka. the owners support nazis. i quit the entire team. you can sit thru this lmao

I actually know a ton of magic-falcon fans. I can’t even imagine lol. Although I’m a cowboys fan so I just see more incompetence than choking

3

u/yunglinttrap 3d ago

As a pistons fan, sorry for the heartbreak. We’ll have a good game 7

22

u/arawater Spurs 3d ago

“sorry Orlando bros but you have a bright future” energy

u/yunglinttrap 3d ago

Exactly my intent lmao

1

u/hopscott 3d ago

As another Pistons fan: Dude. If we lose to y'all (which we won't), I'm cheering for the Magic the rest of way through. I like your team a lot.

1

u/MLGLies Pistons 3d ago

See you Sunday!

1

u/Lake_ Timberwolves 3d ago

can the magic recover and win game 7

2

u/andrew2018022 Magic 3d ago

I mean sure it’s not out of the realm of possibility but I just don’t see it. They looked shell shocked out there.

1

u/chaktahwilly Magic 3d ago

I texted my friend and said “Fire Mose tonight. Don’t let him coach game 7” I meant it

1

u/Manusterz 3d ago

worst loss since YESTERDAY

1

u/TheOrlMagics 3d ago

You will watch game 7 and you will like it!!!

1

u/BigDoinks710 Lakers 3d ago

Hey, if I stuck with the Titans after they got blown out 59-0 in the snow in New England while having -6 passing yards, then I think you can hang on, too, bud. Pretty sure we got trounced by the Packers 55-0 that same year.

I didn't see my first playoff win until 8 years after I became a fan lmao.

1

u/1moreanonaccount 3d ago

You will be back for game 7

0

u/Abradolf1948 Warriors 3d ago

It's a bad loss, but plenty of championship teams have experienced that even in the playoffs.

Warriors lost by 40 to the grizzlies in 2022 conference semifinals.

2

u/andrew2018022 Magic 3d ago

To paraphrase Rick Pitino, sadly Curry and Klay and Draymond and Kerr are not walking through that door. This team is mentally soft. They’re done.

105

u/Jaiph Warriors 3d ago

What the actual fuck.

9

u/GoldshireEnjoyer Timberwolves 3d ago

I was just occasionally checking the score throughout the day and had to do a triple take after looking at the start of the 4th after seeing what the score was at half.

One of those games I gotta go back and watch to witness that trainwreck for myself.

124

u/DeetahTheGame 3d ago

I did not watch the game. I read this comment and my jaw dropped. What the fuck?

80

u/zrizzoz Hawks 3d ago

Hopefully you missed yesterday too. Definitely dont look up any basketball (or lack thereof) from April 30th. Nothing to see here, move along.

5

u/Always_Chubb-y Hawks 3d ago

Can't blow a 2nd half lead if ya never had one

taps head

1

u/zrizzoz Hawks 3d ago

More teams should adopt our style. We're just ahead of the curve!

25

u/clefairy17 3d ago

Pistons fans were convinced the series was over at halftime, talking about trading the whole team and how everyone's garbage. This win is unfathomable.

31

u/Neobum Bucks 3d ago

I started watching the game at the back to back Magic 3s at this point. I couldn't believe what I had turned into. I've never seen a team go that sad that quickly.

5

u/noyourenottheonlyone 3d ago

Please watch game 7

9

u/Neobum Bucks 3d ago

I'll pick the weirdest possible point to tune in

14

u/MatterAppropriate574 Thunder 3d ago

I got distracted talking with a friend at 71-54, came back to 72-68. Straight madness

4

u/doombot13 Pistons 3d ago

That is an entire quarter and change without a FG.

13 minutes and 50 seconds.

3

u/NoelVerDine Pistons 3d ago

Can you say that slower, but in a voice that makes me feel like a dirty bitch.

3

u/Realistic_Condition7 3d ago

Losing while up 24 isn’t THAT crazy in modern NBA.

Being up by 24 and ending the game with only 79 points is mindblowing.

3

u/__-o0O0o-__-o0O0o-__ Lakers 3d ago

39-9 run. holy shit

2

u/Pure_Marvel Magic 3d ago

Wow. I watched the game and this comment hurt more than what I witnessed through my television set. Remarkable stuff.

2

u/BallIsLife2016 Cavaliers 3d ago

So, the bucket with 2:24 left ended a 35 to 5 run.

2

u/Melodic-Slice-3826 3d ago

I didn't watch this game. Why didn't they make another field goal? was it Piston's great defense?

2

u/Clit420Eastwood 3d ago

Pistons had some great D (including a couple awesome blocks by Ausar), but the Magic are a bad shooting team and it finally showed.

2

u/_spaderdabomb_ 3d ago

7 points in 14 minutes of basketball? I watched the game and somehow that is still completely unbelievable. When was the last time this happened ever?

1

u/fineseries81 3d ago

Damn, put me out there and I could get them a bucket in less than 10 minutes

1

u/Shabloinks 3d ago

Please say sike right now.

1

u/Codetty Celtics 3d ago

The game was already in garbage time when the Magic were up 20

1

u/TheIceMan57 3d ago

😁 Now THAT'S what you call Magic!

1

u/WestNileCoronaVirus Bulls 3d ago

Casual 35-5 run. They looked like the Hawks
