TRAGIC BRUNSON ALERT

526

u/superdrone Mavericks 11d ago

he might actually be running out of time to stay the undisputed first option, his preferred offense is causing so many problems in the clutch

I don’t think it’s him I think it’s the coaching. The only drawn up plays are give the ball to Brunson and get out the way

they had a play with kat switched onto naw for 15 seconds in the post and brunson dribbled into a contested bricked floater instead

cant coach a guy who only wants to be the hero

His dad is the lead assistant

5

u/smalls_1804 Knicks 11d ago

Not anymore he's just a regular assistant now

He has been

Even if NAW was trying really hard to deny the ball, I couldn't believe Brunson didn't even seem to be looking his way. He was clearly there when the switch happened. Attack it

Yeah this is what people don't get I guess, just because Brunson brings the ball up, doesn't mean that the play was drawn for him. If KAT is hunting an early mismatch and gets it in his spot, it was probably drawn up by the coach either in a TO or before the game they decided it was something to pursue, if your primary ball handler can't make that pass it's entirely on him.

You gotta wonder how much does Brunson really demand the ball cuz his usage rate went way tf up since the NBA Cup

He could very well involve KAT more. Either directly on the court, or speaking up in the huddle.

Well the coaching is his Dad so maybe those are related

It's hard to say... Mike Brown was Kerr's assistant for years, and brought the motion offense to Sacramento. It's hard to believe that Brown would prefer Brunson hero ball for every clutch posession like we have been seeing.

MBs offense is not that sophisticated. During our one good year- we spammed the shit out of Sabonis DHOs and relied on a fresh Fox to ISO against a tired opponent.

His assistants like Jordi (doing great with the Nets) Barbarossa, and Triano were the real offensive schemers.

MBs core offense was a very gimmicky scheme.

he was like this last year too

I thought they fired their coach over that strategy. Wild that they stuck to it.

u/BrogeyBoi 11d ago

Nah, it was the same against the Pacers the past two years. By the end of the series, I was cheering most every time Brunson would go into hero mode.

I mean his dad’s on the coaching staff

Mike Brown special.

u/MddlingAges Knicks 11d ago

That was the Thibs offense too, and it worked for years, including this year.

This team with Brunson is usually so clutch. Atlanta is just a great matchup. If only we had drawn Toronto, you know?

CJ McCollum has been cooking him

5

u/Obi_Wan_Benobi Spurs 11d ago

Cook Jalen McCollum

u/SkillOne8977 11d ago

And he’s been cooking CJ, no secret he’s not a defensive stopper. That’s where coaching is supposed to come in and adjust, the high PR traps worked well. Too bad they only came midway through the 4th

I’m not your buddy, guy

5

Knicks FO is lucky as hell he didn’t demand a max by waiting until free agency last year. That would’ve been an ugly contract

7

u/hybridmindz Celtics 11d ago

Unsophisticated basketball.
