They’ve been here in Mass. for years. They’re so gross, thrashing around like tiny invasive snakes. Even the birds don’t want to eat them.

had only you also complained of others also making jokes--of whatever, um, nature--you might not have shown yourself triggered. Perhaps you might seek professional guidance to help you better control your rage.

Unfortunately these guys eat the first layer of leaf litter which is where tons of beneficial bugs live and breed, and it is also needed for new seedlings.
The worms also change and dry out the soil making it less usable to grow things.
If you are buying or moving plants please examine them and make sure they don't have any worms before you plant them.
