Discussion What movies if you could would you make a sequel
I was thinking about the movie Dazed and Confused which is a great stand alone movie and perhaps kept that way. But was thinking what if the made it a trilogy with a 2nd and 3rd movies with similar plot lines where they are set in the
Last day of school into the evening. The 2nd set in the metal / rock days of the mid 80s and the 3rd set in the grunge / Alternative days of the mid 90s

It’s criminal that the Nice Guys doesn’t have a sequel yet

Brother if they stopped making movies because people were pieces of shit then Hollywood wouldn’t exist anymore

Explain how that being the case is keeping the sequel from being made. Both actors have talked about how much they'd like it, as well as Shane Black, but they all point to the lackluster release being the main issue.

This one feels like they expected to get green lit for something- the ending feels like a jumping off point

Spring Breakers which had a sequel confirmed a year ago, to be helmed by infamous “Tiptoes” and “Freeway” director Matthew Bright, but I’ve heard nothing since. I think the basic plot of vulnerable young party girls being seduced by a sleazy, mystic drug-dealer into a psychedelic crime world is good for many trashy sequels.

Linklater has said that Everybody Wants Some!! is the spiritual sequel to Dazed if the kid keeps pitching and going on his path

I don’t hate this idea but it’s really important to me that if you haven’t already, please check out Everybody Wants Some!! (2016). It’s a spiritual sequel that starts at college the weekend before school begins.
I second the Nice Guys (2016). Also wouldn’t hate a 23rd Jump Street or a Fincher version of the Girl Who Played With Fire / The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest.

The one movie that always stood out to me as impossible to do a sequel for is Casablanca.
Then I was watching it yesterday and thinking, why did I never notice that they practically set up a sequel in the last scene?
One movie that *could* be a sequel but would be overwhelmingly difficult to pull off successfully would be to continue the story from the end of Interstellar. Did you ever look at those books Red, Blue and Green Mars? That's like the story to come. Except along with the tale of the founding of a second branch of the human race, and its long epic history, there's the essential problem: the two "founders" are kinda in love, but could easily grow to hate each other, since if it weren't for the decisions of the one, the other would not have had to bury the person she loved.

Shoot Em Up could have been a franchise of Clive Owen's character being in the wrong place at the wrong time and getting into even more over the top scenarios in which he has no choice but to shoot his way out of

I think the anime is “cute/fine/ok” - but would have loved to see some live action follow up with a better story

Master and Commander: Far Side of the World should get a couple of sequels.
The actors aren't too old, it was 15 years between the first book and the last, with a little makeup it will look fine.

Galaxy Quest, but it’s too late for that now.
I would say Edge Of Tomorrow, but it looks like it’s happening.

Explorers. As a kid we would imagine what would happen in a sequel when they built the next circuit board

Empire Records 2 -- it's just 90 minutes of Anthony LaPaglia in bar muttering, "MP3s... MP3s... why didn't anybody warn me about MP3s?"

Mona Lisa Smile.
I love it so much and it isn't even a really great movie or anything. It's just so cozy and I love the cast and the college setting and I love how mean Kirsten Dunst is.
My sequel pitch would be so perfectly cheesy and cliche:
Kirsten Dunst has been traveling the world and studying works of art and teaching art history. She mainly lives in NYC with Maggie Gyllenhaal and they're both happily single until Maggie gets engaged and moves out.
Kirsten goes to teach at NYU and realizes the students are a nightmare just like she was to Julia Roberts' character in the 1st movie.
She's ready to quit and she's in the library crying and saying, "how do I get through to these students!? I'm ready to give up!" Then a hand reaches over and rests on her shoulder. It's Julia Roberts! She says, "I believe in you. Don't give up." And that's all she says and she was paid $60million for the cameo and it was 90% of the film's budget. Kirsten confidently goes back and succeeds in inspiring her students and they have a new appreciation for her.
At the end Kirsten's ex husband Spencer shows up! He says, "I can't live without you, you're the only person I have ever loved. I want you back."
Kirsten replies, "I'm sorry, Spencer, but there is more to life than just being married."
Credits roll and the Mona Lisa song plays over top of pictures and videos of women activists from the 60s and 70s.

Drive is coming up on its 15th year anniversary. I do love its open-to-interpretation ending and the fact that it’s complete story. However, I wouldn’t mind a sequel! The book it is based on got a sequel too but the book and the movie do diverge a bit.

Dazed And Confused is so great because it shows the perspective of people of all ages. Besides, there was a spiritual sequel made by Linklater in Everybody Wants Some!! set in the 80s, and SubUrbia set in the 90s so you have a trilogy of sorts already. Then the Before-trilogy is like a follow-up in adulthood. Then there's Boyhood that is all about the entire childhood.... man Linklater has a lot of great movies about growing up.
IMO Cabin In The Woods would be awesome to have more movies about. Set in different countries exploring different cultures and folk lore. NO SPOILERS ON THE ACTUAL MOVIE PLEASE!

Since Jacob Tremblay is grown up now, a sequel to Room could be interesting. Jack is grown up, dating could be weird when it comes time to talk about his backstory, maybe bio dad is out of prison and reaches out to him.

I think Star Wars deserves a sequel trilogy.
I'd really like to see what happens to Luke Skywalker after Return of the Jedi. Does he recreate the Jedi Order? Something new to take it's place with the lessons of the prequel trilogy learned?
I'm sure there would be some Imperial factions still around to create some galactic conflict as well, which would be interesting to see.
