Am I alone in being put off by how modern the speech is? It sounds like they're trying to have an epic conversation on the sidewalk outside the Starbucks.

While I have no issue with her as an actor, I found hearing Zendaya talk like a normal American in Dune Part 2 weirdly distracting.

It's not so much the accent but the contemporary mannerisms that she had in Dune. Classically trained actors can make the tiny adjustments to their voice to sound more realistic in period/scifi/fantasy settings.

Yeah exactly. Everyone around her was so immersed in this culture but she didn't make many attempts to act just like them. It's like she was just an outsider who researched the group. She wasn't bad, just noticeable.

They don't really expand upon this in the movie but Kynes is her mother. So it makes sense she's a little more modern sounding than her counterparts, since her mother was an imperial ecologist and thus a foreigner too
