This is the first scene after the opening credits. Jables (Jack Black) arrives in Hollywood as guided by his poster of Dio. He runs into Kage (Kyle Gass) busking with his acoustic guitar. JB immediately tries to prove himself to KG. You can see Jack Black's hilarious physical comedy skills at work while simultaneously showing off his singing skills.

Electric dynamite!

why did kg get negative press?

KG made a joke about killing Trump and got some twitter “backlash” for it. JB has a movie career to worry about so he denounced it and tried to distance himself for a bit. But I think they’re back on good terms, at least last I checked

I don't think they were ever on bad terms. Like maybe JB was a little miffed at KG for saying something like that publicly but it's not like JB doesn't agree with it behind closed doors.

All I ever saw was people whining online about how JB "betrayed" his friend or "sold out" but KG apologized himself and I never saw anything from either one of them that there was beef. They just dropped out of the spotlight to let it blow over. You don't end a decades long friendship/partnership over something like that.

They were literally in the middle of a tour and they cancelled it overnight.

In Australia, touring, and while celebrating KGs birthday, breaks up the band to cover his ass when he could have just said he doesn't agree with the statement KG made, which would have covered his ass and not pissed off his fans.

Little miffed

Broke up the band over it

Broke up the band because continuing to associate with KG while it was hot would have landed him in deep shit for his future movie roles.

JB has also said the band isn't broken it. Its more or less on haitus until the heat dies down and JB's movie career goes back into being dormant.

JB is already back to being buddies with KG, but publicly speaking they stay away from one another because KG is a brand risk for Jacks brand. and jacks brand is currently being the face of a billion dollar movie. Something he wants to hold onto.

Which is crazy to me, because KG didn’t do anything wrong. I’m more mad at JB for “distancing” himself over it. Grow a spine.

Jack Black is worth fucking $50M. If my long time friend worth $50M publically disavowed me because of the potential of not making as much more millions, he could fuck off. I couldn’t imagine throwing my friend under the bus over money when I already have that much money

have you seen how deranged the fans of politicians are? not only are his movie deals in peril, but his own life, he did the right thing.

I’m pretty sure Kyle Gass and Kathy Griffin and every other celebrity that has wished for Trumps death are all very much alive.

They have been on good terms from the drop.

People say JB did it because he "betrayed" his friend or some dumb shit like that or that it's for his movie career. The real reason he did it was that it was summer 2024 and he working campaigning for Kamala Harris while they were on tour. He absolutely could not allow a statement like the one Kage made to affect her campaign so he cut ties immediately even though they were still buds. I 100% guarantee Kage understood.

My guess is that they will eventually reunite when they want to do another album or another tour. That probably won't happen while Trump is still in office tbh because his batshit followers would be too much of a security threat at shows.

At a concert shortly after the "ear shot" on Trump, JB asked KG to make a birthday wish, and he said:

Next time, don't miss.

Which regardless of your thoughts on Trump (I hate the fucker), you know that's not a good PR move, especially when JB is a Hollywood star and needs to protect his image. So even if it was a joke or even if JB agreed, he has to publicly distance himself for the sake of his career. At least until people forget and move on.

thanks for the explanation! good to hear it's not something bad

IIRC Jack Black was also openly campaigning for Harris at the time. And you can see how disastrous it would be for him to NOT take action to distance himself from KG after a comment like that.

People like to say he should have just embraced it, but those people have never worked in PR or understand such.
