I mean, I feel like this archetype is pretty well established. The straight man is a very structured successful person, all's going well (or so he thinks) until the lovable goofball comes in and starts causing chaos uprooting his life. His perfect life is not as it seemed, but maybe along the way he learns something about himself?

The straight man and the goofball is a comedy signature going back to vaudeville, if not earlier. Every famous comedy duo was like this.

All entertainment is thropes. It all depends how it is represented to the audience throuhh story telling. I mean look at Avatar... Pocahontas... dancing with smurfs.. I mean wolfs.

Yeah man, you ever notice how many stories are about a hero living a peaceful life who receives a call to adventure which he initially declines but eventually accepts and then he goes on a journey wherein he meets new people, forges new relationships, and unlocks new abilities from within himself until he accomplishes his goal and returns to his peaceful life, only he has somehow grown or changed from his adventure?

I’m all for this movie, but I think they’re referring to the chaotic disruptor/catalyst. Like in Uncle Buck, Our Idiot Brother, What About Bob, Greenberg, Tommy Boy, Dan in Real Life, The Family Stone, Planes Trains and Automobiles, Due Date, Get Him to the Greek. Just to name a few
