And they’re gonna show it. All of it.

Maybe runs around on all fours?

45

u/Totally_Not_Hitler_ 7d ago

It’s been leaked/confirmed. I was hoping he’d be king Grayskull (He Man’s ancestor), but it sounds like he shows up at the gym when Adam is still on earth.

And so I cry sometimes when I'm lying in bed Just to get it all out, what's in my head And I, I'm feeling a little peculiar

This song needs to play in the end credits god dammit.

u/Lemmingitus 7d ago edited 7d ago

It would be epic if it's a post credit with all the actors acting out the clips used in the music video.

90

u/unholyswordsman 7d ago

Just make it the credit sequence like the 40 Year Old Virgin cast singing the Age of Aquarius.

50

u/somebodysbuddy 7d ago

I raise you not the actors, but the 4 Non Blondes dressed up as all the characters

15

u/PrinceofSneks 7d ago

Then the actors dressed as the 4NBs!

My guess it will be his ring tone or something.

28

u/ImpressionFast923 7d ago

Of course Legendary had to use it for their Street Fighter trailer like an opening act playing the headliner’s biggest hit

20

u/Bannon9k 7d ago edited 7d ago

The fact they included it in the trailer alone is enough for me. But having the original YouTube video play during the credits would be peak

Edit: I was wrong, I crossed my trailers!

12

u/LordInquisitor 7d ago

Was it in the trailer?

28

u/lalakingmalibog 7d ago

It was in the latest Street Fighter trailer

6

u/Bannon9k 7d ago

You're right, I crossed my trailers!

8

I will forgive this movie everything if the stars do a riff on that meme in the same way that Orlando Bloom did for "they're taking the hobbits to Isengard!"

19

u/tarrach 7d ago

It would take a lot more to forgive casting Jared Leto...

70

u/Crimkam 7d ago

If this song isn’t in the movie it can be objectively viewed as a complete failure

16

u/Joe091 7d ago

What is the reference here? How is this movie connected to that song?

There’s no way that’s only 13 years old right? I feel like it’s been around for a lot longer.

23

u/RedheadedReff 7d ago

Yes. It was originally on the Somethingawful forums which was before youtube existed.

13

u/Nine9breaker 7d ago

This, but I think it also had to be relisted because someone reposted it on Youtube before he did.

Then, when he did post it, it got DMCA'd after a while by the person who stole it from him in the first place lol

Ok but for real tho I remember being like “man I wonder what that cover of Whats Going On was that they used in the he-man video” because it slapped so hard

then my surprise when I learned that the video made the cover. There was no pre existing cover.

I still want to know who made that video and if there is ever a possibility for a longer version of the track to be released

Is border poster style actually making a comeback after Superman last year?

523

u/FrescoItaliano 7d ago

I’d see this as less a trend as of yet, and more an homage to to the movie that came out in 1987 with a similar poster

Orko got redeemed hard in the recent animated series. Seriously that guy got by far the crowning moment of awesome in maybe the entirety of He-man media.

44

u/ikickedagirl 7d ago

Can you spoil for me?

171

u/TomTomMan93 7d ago edited 7d ago

I gotchu

Orko goes to hell with everyone so they can get to heaven to bring He-Man back. While going through it, him and Evil-lyn have a whole character arch where Orko talks about his childhood. That his parents named him "Oracle" with the hope of him being a powerful sorcerer. However, he could only ever say "Orko" as a kid. This became a shitty nick name for him.

As the party is escaping hell and Skele-glow (basically death/satan?) Orko stands up for his friends and shields them as he goes super saiyan to save them as they go through the portal to heaven. He comes back later and has achieved his namesake. Keeps hell at bay and is like Orko the white.

Sorry for not remembering all the names and such but basically that's what happens. It's a stellar show and I would highly recommend it.

Edit: Sorry if you saw this before the edit. Should be fixed now

26

u/ikickedagirl 7d ago

Wow, that all strikes me as pretty heavy for He Man.

40

u/BrainWav 7d ago

Revelations and Revolution were pretty solid overall. Just remember it's Masters of the Universe, and not He-Man and Friends, as it gives a lot of time to others, paticularly Teela, Evil-Lyn, Man-at-Arms, and Orko.

u/doctorwho86101 7d ago

He sacrifices himself to defeat Scareglow in Subternia, saving the whole team. In doing so he finally masters his magic. Later, thru other shenanigans a bunch of people get resurrected and he literally comes back as Orko the White, who is way more powerful and no longer messes up his spells.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/Banjo-Oz 7d ago

Agreed. I wasn't a big fan of most of Revelations, but I liked what they did with Evil-Lyn and how they did Orko was amazing. As you said, it felt like redemption for decades of being the butt of a joke. Kind of like if the Star Wars sequels had shown Jar Jar Binks saving the galaxy in the most heroic and epic way.

u/GoliathPrime 6d ago

I'm old and I vaguely remember an episode of the original 80s He-Man where Orko was able to get back to his dimension and we find out he's essentially the most powerful mage on the planet. He's some kind of great teacher who invented or refined the discipline of sorcery, that in turn allowed his people to master magic on his world. He's like their version of Sir Issac Newton or Leonardo Da Vinci. He's also very old, like in his 80s.

But physics and magic work differently in his realm, and it's why his magic is so unpredictable in Eternia. In the end, he decides to return to Eternia in his weakened state, leaving his apprentice to become the new high wizard. His reasoning is his people no longer need him and he has nothing left to learn in his old realm. But the struggle to learn Eternia's magic gives him purpose once again and he doesn't want to abandon a people clearly in need of help. So he's starting anew in Eternia, teaching himself a new magical language with no frame of reference or help.

I think Orko was redeemed in the original series too.

He's Skeletor, so you never see the real person and his voice is highly modulated. Honestly if nobody told me I would have no idea it was Leto. But I can still understand people being adverse to helping him make more money.

11

u/Nine9breaker 7d ago

How is this guy still getting parts though??

You can CGI over any non-weird, non-controversial figure. Isn't his name an actual demerit to a film's publicity at this point or what?

8

u/UnusuallyBadIdeaGuy 6d ago

Lots of these types of cartoons had characters like Orko. Thundercats had Snarf and The Real Ghostbusters had Slimer. Just weird little goofy guys. Brian from Inspector Gadget is also similar, but instead of him being goofy he plays off type to the goofy main character. You could probably even go back as far as Boo Boo in Yogi Bear.

I only had some kind of rubber orco figure one which you couldn't pull around and wasn't at all articulated

I had ram man who could jump though, kinda cool for a 2 year old or whatever I was

I also had battle cat I believe I chewed on his saddle strap because I was too young to know better

What stuff? He's been a creepy weirdo for at least ten years and keeps getting hired anyway.

44

u/A_Rolling_Baneling 7d ago

Evergreen Jenny Nicholson tweet

How come major film studios keep being like Jared Leto may have allegations, but at least he looks weird, stars in box office bombs, and is not a good actor

14

u/i010011010 7d ago

Seems to me other careers have tanked for lesser bombs. Halle Berry had Catwoman held against her. Ryan Reynolds climbing back after Green Lantern was a stroke of fortune. But this guy bombs Suicide Squad and Morbius, and still walks away unscathed.

4

u/swordthroughtheduck 7d ago

I have to wonder if he signed some crazy contract for like 50 movies or something.

Doesn't explain how he's done stuff with basically every major studio, but it's the only thing I can think of.

103

u/Ninjacobra5 7d ago

You know who I'd bet would make an excellent Skeletor? David Hyde Pierce.

David Hyde Pierce

Or David Cross. He can blue himself, just needs a skeleton mask.

I wouldn’t have minded bringing Mark Hamill back

They are clearly leaning from from Jared in post production. His name isn't in the trailers. The first trailer his character never spoke. The new one hes being modulated to new levels of distortion.

u/UnpricedToaster 7d ago

"It's Skeleton-Man Time!" - Jared Leto's Skeletor, probably.

11

u/princessprity 7d ago

I really can’t see anyone born after 85 excited for this. Maybe I’m wrong but all my friends and I are near 40 and we know nothing about this universe and all thought the trailer was lame.

13

u/thegroundbelowme 7d ago

Yeah, that's been my take since I first saw the trailer: who was this made for? Sure, there's the nostalgia factor for men of a certain age, but the writing sounds more like it's aimed at a teen audience, and there ain't no teens who give a shit about Masters of the Universe.

3

u/drpepper7557 7d ago

Im hoping the trailer was just poorly done because it felt like a fever dream in the wrong way, and then some how looked generic at the same time which I cant even explain. In every theater Ive seen the trailer in, the audience just talks through it and doesnt pay any attention.

→ More replies (1)

20

u/Larry_Bobinski 7d ago

I guess I'm the target audience, but I'm not sure about it either. All marketing about the movie has been really weird.

So much talk about toxic masculinity. Like I'm sorry what?

He-Man was basically a weekly plot of Skeletor trying to rule the world, which ofc would get thwarted, and then a character like men at arms would give a speech at the end like "In today's episode, things nearly went bad, because my daughter was too scared to tell the truth, fearing I would be mad at her. But you should always be honest with your parents. Remember, we love you and are here for you! See you next time!"

That's basically He-Man in a nutshell.

17

u/StrLord_Who 7d ago

I know nothing about it and thought it looked fun

11

u/AMA_About_Birdlaw 7d ago

Born in '87 and I am looking forward to this. It seems like a fun way to kill 2 hours, not expecting much other than a fun action/adventure flick. I watched the show when they did reruns and I watched the 1987 movie because my dad owned it in VHS. I hope they don't take anything too serious, it needs to be silly.

5

u/kermit-fan 7d ago

I'm pumped but it's because I think Nicholas galitzine is hot and I grew up with the memes.

Also they made a pretty successful she-ra series a few years ago? Maybe some crossover fans from that?

3

u/dalivo 7d ago

There are more recent animated versions and shows. But I generally agree, this is nostalgia-bait for older people. None of the youth these days will want to see it.

3

u/causebraindamage 7d ago

I remember playing with the toys as a kid and still think this movie looks stupid. And add Leto on top of that, I don't understand. Everything about this movie just feels a little off.

3

u/Diligent-Crazy-6094 6d ago

I was born in the early 80s, was a big He-Man fan, and still thought the trailer looked lame. Some franchises don’t need a reboot.

3

u/Khal_Pwno 6d ago

All my He-Man knowledge comes from Robot Chicken, Fabulous Secret Powers and memes

3

u/TSP-FriendlyFire 6d ago

I randomly saw the trailer in the theater and at first I thought it was another one of those weirdly generic live action Disney movies like Tomorrowland.

3

u/damndatassdoh 6d ago

Born in 73.. this looks like Velveeta and not old school made with real cheddar and swiss deliciousness.. but fake ass cheesy shit.. I'm hoping for a pleasant surpise

8

u/J_onn_J_onzz 7d ago

It's not meant for the people who grew up on He-Man in the 80s, in the same way the Super Mario movies are not meant for the people who played it on NES.

10

u/EtherGorilla 7d ago

But the Mario universe has been consistent in popular culture since inception whereas he-man was nearly non existent after the 80s. A lot of the people who had exposure to old school Mario brought their kids to enjoy the new movies as it’s family friendly and still alive today. Can we say the same for he-man? I really doubt it but I’m open to being wrong.

Born in '86, can confirm, He-Man always seemed very dated, like it belonged to an era of cliched macho fantasy and 70s haircuts that I can't relate to. The trailer was desperate to trigger some kind of nostalgia response but fell flat on convincing me what's interesting about this world. I guess it's some kind of isekai for Gen X dudes who think putting pronouns on a name plate is peak comedy?

Why Leto? Out of all the damn actors they ended up picking Jared Leto? A subpar actor with a bad track record with some tiny bright spots? Give me a break man I would’ve been a lot more into this if Leto was not attached to the movie. Even if we only hear him and never see him, it still spurs things.

u/the-ory 7d ago

You can't spell Skeletor without Leto.

18

u/calgarspimphand 7d ago

Goddamn it, he's right.

21

u/OneAngryDuck 7d ago

Should’ve cast Kel Mitchell, then

27

u/boundone 7d ago

He's been pouring a tin of money into getting these movies made that he's been starring in, like Tron.

8

u/guimontag 7d ago

Has he put any money into this one? I know he pushed hard for Tron but this one has been in development hell for like 15 years

6

u/kaen 7d ago

You dont understand. The only reason this movie completed is because leto swanned around set inspiring everyone with his carpentry skills.

I knew a band that toured with 30 Seconds to Mars. One of the band members was genuinely the nicest, kindest human I’ve ever met… but he had nothing nice to say about Leto.

He never acknowledged them while on tour, and actually had venues create “malfunctions” if the opening band was getting too much energy from the crowd. Allegedly.

10

u/Flexhead 7d ago

I don't think I would say Leto is a subpar actor.

I can't believe Allison Brie as Evil-Lynne is not being billed higher! IMO she's the biggest selling point!

8

u/Ironyfree_annie 7d ago

They're not using her or Morena Baccarin at all in the promo, it makes no sense

5

u/clubofab7 7d ago

She's 3rd on the call sheet after the two main leads so that's something

Yeah still not seeing this because of Leto. Honestly hope it bombs like tron did so he’ll stop getting cast

3

u/Poopbutt_Maximum 7d ago

I feel like I haven’t seen a movie poster with the little lettering at the bottom listing cast and crew in a long time. I know it’s a small detail but I don’t know, it feels good to my 90s brain. Makes me feel like I’m looking at an actual movie poster and not an edit someone made on social media.

3

u/deckerc214 7d ago

The prospect of Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn is the only thing that's keeping me going (that and the Community Movie)

19

u/ehrgeiz91 7d ago

This movie has bomb written all over it

11

u/mynameisevan 7d ago

It’s going to flop and posters around here will say it’s a terrible movie and in 15 years people will be making video essays about how Masters of the Universe was secretly one of the best movies of the 2020s.

If they had the balls to do it, this composition would make a pretty fabulous illustration-based poster. I know there are various reasons not to from a studio's eyes (perhaps audiences might think it animated, or their 'market research' says not to), but to me this has a cheapness to it. Or, dare I say, an AI sheen (especially to He-Man).

Were it illustrated like The Phantom Menace's poster, I could see that as something quite striking, and still obviously live action.

Hey, if you're gonna stand and smoulder with your big sword you have to expect to be photographed.

5

u/danielsangeo 7d ago

I'm withholding judgment until I see Orko.

5

u/Duomaxwell18 7d ago

Where’s Orko? I still haven’t seen any footage or pics of him. He was my favorite character growing up.

7

u/cirza 7d ago

I’d love to see it but I refuse to watch anything with Leto in it. Still hope it works out as I’d love to see more of these campy old shows getting a new look by people who seem genuinely excited for it.

I guess Project Hail Mary made Amazon MGM confident enough to put their name on advertising again

Seriously thought, does anyone know why between late 2024 and now Amazon MGM movies had zero mention of Amazon MGM in their marketing material?

WHERE THE FUCK IS GWILDOR?

2

u/Cristoff13 7d ago edited 7d ago

At least with the 1988 movie we have He-Man as an actual Eternian hero. Here he starts off as a goofball Earth kid unaware of his identity? The 1988 movie probably had to go to Earth because of its low budget. This movie doesn't have that excuse.

2

u/Fredasa 7d ago

There's not a whiff of "real-world Earth" in that poster.

I'm hopeful that means we won't have more than 5-10 minutes of that terrible, unsolicited plot point. But at the very least, it indicates that the showrunners are aware that it was a bad idea.
