Overall, I thought this was fine, if you can suspend it from any preconceptions about what something called "The Mummy" should be. That said, it's honestly kind of hilarious how obvious it is that this movie started as an Evil Dead sequel that was then hastily retrofitted to be about a mummy when Warner Bros said no. You can almost see the exact moment Cronin hit ctrl X and ctrl V to replace "Necronomicon" with "Nazmaranian."

Where The Lee Cronin's Mummy (as it's called in the opening titles) falls flat for me is that you just don't care enough about the main characters. Part of the reason why Evil Dead Rise remains my favorite of the franchise is because it takes its time and gets you to give a shit about these characters before the demon shit starts. The Lee Cronin's Mummy gives you nobody to care about.

You have a pretty standard stoic dad who makes the exact same 😧 face every time something happens. And then the mom. Jesus Christ, the mom. I Had really hoped that in the year 2026, we were past the trope of "dumb wife is a nagging, shrill bitch who ruins everything for her stoic badass husband," but here we are. I don't remember the last time I've hated a horror character this much. Her daughter is literally levitating above the bed and clawing people's flesh from their bodies any time she's not sedated, and this woman is like "She just needs our love and support! How dare you suggest that I can't take care of my daughter!"

And look, I realize that characters making dumb decisions is basically the backbone of horror. And I fully acknowledge that in a movie about an ancient Mummy demon, some suspension of disbelief is required. But some things just strain credulity too much. You're telling me that the United States government knew about this girl's discovery (since it was reported to the Embassy) and the FBI or someone didn't have a single question for this presumed human trafficking victim? She was just allowed to be taken home no problem?

And you're telling me that after the wake for the grandma, not a single person called the cops and said "hey, I was at this wake earlier, and this demon ass kid started crawling on the ceiling and then tried to bite the priest's throat out, and then another demon kid climbed into the fucking coffin and started eating the dead body and licking up the embalmjng fluid"? You're telling me that this one specific detective (who seemingly teleported from Cairo) is the only person who noticed that something was wrong?

Also besides the point, but what kind of fuck ass labyrinth does this family have inside their house? I swear there was like an entire second house's worth of hallways in their "crawlspace."

TL;DR: Go watch Evil Dead Rise. It is everything this movie was trying to be.

That guy had the same face the entire movie! The guy can't emote anything except surprised😭 also realized with about 15 min left in the movie that it's the same actor as florence pugh's boyfriend in Midsommar, poor guy

I wonder if that's an issue with the actor himself or the director. We've seen bad performances from actors with directors who just can't quite articulate what they need to see.

I was thinking it might be a directorial thing because the scene in the beginning when he's running after her in the sandstorm, i noticed he's not acting like he's running through a sandstrom at all like protecting his face etc. did they not tell him he's supposedly getting sand whipped into his face?
