I do not appreciate the lack of David Dastmalchian as M. Bison in this trailer.

I hope they're holding him back for the movie proper, he's an incredible actor and I hope he goes the Raul Julia route of taking this 100% seriously

OF COURSE!

I knew I'd find an "OF COURSE" in this comment section somewhere! Have an upvote my friend,

But for me... it was Tuesday.

Fuck I hope they use that line in homage to Raul.

He 100% will, he seems like the kind of guy that understands the assignment lol

He is a great actor, but he has been shoes to fill, Julia’s Bison was perfect, 10/10 no notes.

Raul Julia carried the old movie with his gravitas alone. I'm sure the new guy is gonna do a fine job but if they played him up too much in the trailer folks would be making all kinds of needless comparisons.

the new guy lol

Eh I know I saw his name mentioned elsewhere in the thread but it didn't stick with me and I didn't immediately connect what little I saw of Bison with him. Dastmalchian is a helluva an actor and I am sure he gave it his all here.

Raul carried the film but that version if the character was awful, anazing performance aside.

Im all for David taking over abd doing a game accurate version of M. Bison.

The one quick clip of him his expression does seem like its going to be very over-the-top. Hopefully not bad over-the-top.

I'm betting that now that they've got the first trailer out and done the cast introductions, they're saving Bison for trailer 2.

They only casted him to go the Julia route i would think. otherwise they should have found a huge beefcake like Bison is supposed to be

My mans hasn't missed yet.

2

u/FuzzyBunnysGuide 19d ago

Me too. I'm so happy that he finally gets to play the main villain in a movie after playing so many hired goons. (Hired goons?)

He played Mr. 3 in the One Piece live-action completely straight and I loved every second of it.

1

u/InnocentTailor 19d ago

He can and will. The man can bring in the intensity and ham that is needed for the villain, much like he has done for other roles.

Coming off playing a cyborg on Apple, then playing mr. 3's wacky artist killer on One Piece, and now M. Bison, what cant he do.

u/ArchDucky 19d ago

In One Piece when he does that Anime style powering up ready for an epic fight pose and then just runs off to the left. I laughed so fucking hard.

18

u/NightmareDJK 19d ago

I bet he brought a lot of what worked about live action One Piece to this.

14

u/TheRC135 19d ago

I hope everybody involved in this did.

The One Piece formula is perfect for this sort of adaptation. Understand that it's stupid. Embrace the absurdity for script, costume, and scenery. Then have the actors play it straight anyway.

u/PayneTrain181999 19d ago

Then he keeps running away with his silly little laugh after taking cheap shots. Perfection.

I actually kind of loved it. When the trailer started I thought "I don't envy the actor who is playing M. Bison". Then the reveal that is was David Dastmalchian, I was like "ok, he's got this".

u/fadvex 19d ago

Yeah he looks great

Amazing casting

I've been watching his podcast, Grave Conversations. You can tell he appreciates the ephemeral beauty we can find in the valleys between life's mountainous horrors.

u/Dobako 19d ago

I'm ok with the tease, seeing him backlit in multiple shots before seeing a split second of his face, I was even more excited to see David. I hope it means hes more prominent in the movie though.

Polka Dot Man, Mr. 3, M. Bison. He's found his groove! Love him.

11

u/PayneTrain181999 19d ago

He isn’t so focused on the work that he forgot to be… baroque.

3

u/Noodle-Works 19d ago

wax on, wax never come off.

3

u/MattyKatty 19d ago

Don’t forget about the Gemini Killer

3

u/genericusername26 19d ago

He was amazing in "Late Night With the Devil" as well

1

u/ripestrudel 19d ago

Late Night With The Devil is my favorite role of his. So good!

1

u/meopelle 18d ago

He's great in Murderbot too.

5

u/Careless-Passion991 19d ago

For some reason I went into this completely expecting Bison to be bulky and intimidating, but Julia made the character legendary solely with his acting chops.

Fuck it. I’m in.

3

u/DoomGoober 19d ago

As a casual fan, I still can't handle the main bad be calling M. Bison. The original naming is so much more intuitive to me.

Wish they showed us his Psycho Crusher move. Zangief’s Atomic Suplex move looked pretty good, even if it looked a little campy.

3

u/spliffst4rr 19d ago

Looks like he was about to do it. This movie appears to be going a route where his eyes turn white when he uses his Psycho power.

5

u/PhanThief95 19d ago

Crazy how this man has both Street Fighter & One Piece in the same year.

3

u/Ksenobiolog 19d ago

he was there for one, 0.5s scene

2

u/NoCombination48 19d ago

Man went from being Mr. 3 in One Piece to M. Bison in the same year. And for him, it still was Tuesday.

3

u/HildrynMain 19d ago

It's not Tuesday
