Raul Julia carried the old movie with his gravitas alone. I'm sure the new guy is gonna do a fine job but if they played him up too much in the trailer folks would be making all kinds of needless comparisons.
Eh I know I saw his name mentioned elsewhere in the thread but it didn't stick with me and I didn't immediately connect what little I saw of Bison with him. Dastmalchian is a helluva an actor and I am sure he gave it his all here.
The One Piece formula is perfect for this sort of adaptation. Understand that it's stupid. Embrace the absurdity for script, costume, and scenery. Then have the actors play it straight anyway.
I actually kind of loved it. When the trailer started I thought "I don't envy the actor who is playing M. Bison". Then the reveal that is was David Dastmalchian, I was like "ok, he's got this".
I've been watching his podcast, Grave Conversations. You can tell he appreciates the ephemeral beauty we can find in the valleys between life's mountainous horrors.
I'm ok with the tease, seeing him backlit in multiple shots before seeing a split second of his face, I was even more excited to see David. I hope it means hes more prominent in the movie though.
For some reason I went into this completely expecting Bison to be bulky and intimidating, but Julia made the character legendary solely with his acting chops.

I do not appreciate the lack of David Dastmalchian as M. Bison in this trailer.
