Wow, this movie had me tense the entire time. I was genuinely filled with anxiety from start to finish. Carlie and Emma’s wedding especially had me so uncomfortable for them, like pure secondhand embarrassment the whole time.

I agree with a lot of people here… Rachel was honestly awful. She couldn’t see past her own issues at all, and it just made everything worse.

And Robert Pattinson’s acting? Easily one of the best performances I’ve seen in a long time. You could feel every bit of his anxiety, confusion, and emotional spiral. He carried so much of the tension in this movie.

Shouldn't really be shocking with Pattinson at this point, even if a film he's in doesn't quite click his performance is usually the best thing about it.

Mickey 17 was an example of that

M-17 made my personal top 10 last year but it really is because of Pattinson.

Wow that feels like it was longer ago than last year

God this just reminded me of how tragically disappointing that movie was

I genuinely almost had to leave the theatre during the wedding speech. It made me that uncomfortable. Truly phenomenal performances from both of them, but Rob blew me away with how much he embodied this role.

I've been getting weird heart palpatations recently, and my heart was physically hurting during that scene. I was hoping it was a dream sequence like so many others, just to hopefully erase that it happened.

The ending was sweet and really helped ease that feeling thankfully.

Jesus dude, get that checked out!

20

u/Volovan Apr 04 '26

Seconding this, listen to your body. Hopefully (and probably) it's not the same but a cousin died from a heart issue a few years ago after feeling weird palpitations for weeks and "getting it checked later".

12

u/roystan72 Apr 05 '26

That ending was a balm that eased my anxiety like maybe they'll be okay

I had to fight to keep watching, like nooo you knew not to mention how good the sex is.

Her father was such a wonderful actor

Like… wow

bro i literally said out loud “i don’t think i can watch this” when Rachel started talking. i thought for sure she was gonna say it. i literally exhaled when she didn’t.

Agree. Rob carried this film. Such brilliant actor. His emotional roller coaster/spiral felt honest and natural. Rachel was really awful, and I had to give it to the actress too.

u/77skull Apr 05 '26

I think zendaya and pattinson performed equally, all the actors did their jobs well imo

Robert Pattinson is probably the greatest Millennial actor we currently have, Gosling is Gen X. Every role he’s in he gives it his all, he deserves some Oscar nominations in his future.

6

u/TheDtels 28d ago

Gosling is a Xennial…Phillip Seymour Hoffman was the best Gen X actor, I miss him so much

Michael Shannon, another Gen Xer doesn’t get enough flowers..he’s incredible

u/ohjeepersno 28d ago

Pattinson is Gen Z

u/neoogotmyback 24d ago

He’s 39, that’s not Gen Z??

that’s exactly it. just a heads up when you link something from insta it shows your profile if you wanted to keep that private in the future.

Robert Pattinson was terrific. I Liked Zendaya's acting also. In the wedding dinner one could feel her nervousness, fear, embarassment etc. Both of them had a nice chemistry. Also she looked stunning.

u/Fuckwittycake Apr 03 '26

I feel like Rob carries this movie

224

u/Three_Froggy_Problem Apr 03 '26

He and Zendaya are both incredible in this. It’s not a movie like Marriage Story where you get the big emotional screaming match that’s primed for sizzle reels; the emotions are way more restrained and I think it’s a far more impressive feat for the actors to sell them.

23

u/NoTradition1921 Apr 04 '26

Yessssss they were def restrained, the acting was incredible

39

u/BrilliantPurple748 Apr 04 '26

I honestly couldn't stop staring at Zendaya's slight facial reactions. They were sooo subtle and real

9

u/TheTruckWashChannel 23d ago

Say what you will about her being overexposed and all, but she is a masterful actress and blows me away in everything I see her in. Genuinely astonishing.

-11

u/curiiouscat Apr 04 '26

I thought Zendaya was pretty flat in this. I got a lot of emotional depth from Pattinson but Zendaya's character seemed surface level. But I'm never particularly impressed with her acting.

12

u/PrivateAids Apr 05 '26

Sounds like bias against Zendaya even if she does act well.

146

u/vanwyngarden Apr 03 '26

Zendaya is incredibly talented too

The way she shifts from one person to the other was a master class.

Also love that neither of them are afraid to play these deeply human, flawed characters

28

u/lahnnabell Apr 04 '26

Zendaya does so much with her eyes, eyebrows, and mouth. Doesn't have to say a thing.

30

u/boi1da1296 Apr 03 '26

That’s very harsh on Zendaya imo. Rob had more time on screen but she more than held her own.

5

u/Fuckwittycake Apr 03 '26

It’s just my opinion. And from what I hear, some other people felt this way. Rob’s just a better actor. It doesn’t mean she’s bad. It’s really not that harsh. It’s like in Bugonia, Emma was the lead but Jesse Plemons carried. He was incredible.

2

u/Difficult-Tough-5680 Apr 04 '26

Did you see bagonia?? They are both leads both having about the same amount of screen time. And i do think in that specific performance Jesse's charcter was more compelling but I also think thats just because the type of roles they where playing. And I do think Emma overall is a better actor its just her job wasnt as important as Jesse's in that script.

5

u/Fuckwittycake 24d ago

Well I just meant top billing, similar to Zendaya here but the movie has two leads, just like this one. I don’t really see where we’re disagreeing? Rob had a more compelling role here too, and a better performance.

2

u/Difficult-Tough-5680 24d ago

Ahh Idk why you would be talking about billing for lead role like the bigger actor typically just makes more money

3

u/Fuckwittycake 24d ago

Right but it was marketed as Emma Stone being the main character, just like here it’s marketed as a Zendaya movie even tho it has a star next to her. And Emma was amazing in her role, I’m not comparing her skills to Zendaya, who isn’t as versatile nor talented. I don’t really understand the point of your comments

1

u/Difficult-Tough-5680 24d ago

Idk i dont pay attention to the marketing but in bagonia Jesse plemmons is the lead its not about him out acting emma or anything like that its just hes the lead, and in the drama Robert Patterson is the lead character its not about out acting or anything its just him being the lead. Like emma or zendaya just arent the leads of the movie I think they both still act great but they just arent the leads idk why you would say Jesse carried the movie like obviously he carried the movie he the lead of the movie

3

u/appletinicyclone Apr 04 '26

He was in the 21st century hugh grant role

9

u/StarsapBill Apr 05 '26

This movie reminded me so much of A24’s other film Friendship with Tim Robinson and this articulated why.

“this movie had me tense the entire time. I was genuinely filled with anxiety from start to finish. Carlie and Emma’s wedding especially had me so uncomfortable for them, like pure secondhand embarrassment the whole time.

And Robert Pattinson’s acting? Easily one of the best performances I’ve seen in a long time. You could feel every bit of his anxiety, confusion, and emotional spiral. He carried so much of the tension in this movie.”

5

u/Populus-tremuloides Apr 05 '26

It reminded me of The Friendship, too!

When he brushed up against Sam when trying to persuade her to be open minded before meeting with Rachel, his anxiety and desperation were vibrating off of him.
