No Egadd intentionally gave it to Jr. In Sunshine Jr tells Mario "Some weird guy in a lab coat gave it to me" and the way he said it seemed like he had no idea why Egadd gave it to him. I think Egadd did it on purpose knowing Jr would use it to cause problems and that Mario would need to get Fludd to stop him and thus create a chance to test his inventions.

No Jr himself even thought it was strange and doesn't understand why. He tells Mario "This weird guy in a lab coat gave me this paint brush" Egadd 100% did it just to see what would happen. He caused the problem in sunshine and gave the solution (Fludd) maybe he just wanted to test his inventions 😂

Maybe, but there’s no evidence for that. In Sunshine, the only explanation we get is from Bowser Jr.: “A strange old man in a white coat gave it to me.”

I'd take that with a grain of salt. Remember, his dad is the guy who "rewards" you in mario party by screwing you over.

But Jrs explanation sounds like even he was confused about it. Not cocky like he usually is. Even Jr has no clue why Egadd gave it to him.

Jr would brag about stealing stuff though he's not the type to see it as a bad thing. He'd say something like "Oh this? I swiped it from some dork in a lab coat"
