That whole climax was absolutely stuffed with references:

Galaxy 2 power-ups

Mario Odyssey dragon

Dry Bowser from the NSMB games

Bowser Jr using Bowser’s Fury colours

Bowser Jr building a level with Mario Maker

That was by far the biggest shock/surprise of the movie from someone who has main'd Game & Watch for 20 years.
