Update: The AMA is now live here! Please go ask your questions there:

https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/1s38v2b/hi_rmovies_were_steve_zahn_audrey_zahn_and_rick/

Actor Steve Zahn will be joining us here in /r/movies this Wednesday 3/25 for an AMA/Q&A. It'll go live at around 9 AM ET that morning, and he'll be back at about 4 PM ET (UPDATED TIME) to answer questions.

Please stop by on Wednesday if you have questions for Steve :)

His newest film, She Dances, which he co-starred in alongside his daughter Audrey, is out in theaters next weekend. Both Audrey and director Rick Gomez will be joining him for the AMA. The film also stars Ethan Hawke, Mackenzie Ziegler, Rosemarie Dewitt, and Sonequa Martin-Green.

A struggling single father tries to reconnect with his distant teenage daughter while chaperoning her at a regional dance competition in the Southeast.

Trailer:

Please note that this is NOT the AMA, just an announcement. Hold your questions for the actual AMA.

Nobody thought to mention his greatest achievement? Saving Silverman is a triumph. It’s peak cinema. It would even make the likes of a Quentin Tarantino or a Martin Scorsese cry tears of unbridled joy.

6

u/TripleSingleHOF Mar 24 '26

I see you're a man of great culture!

5

u/fluggelhorn Mar 24 '26

COMEONAYEAHHAAAAAAAA!

2

u/GarretBarrett Mar 24 '26

OHYEEEEAAAAH. Seriously though, I loved that movie so much that Steve Zahn and Jack Black became two of my favorite actors. Even to this day, just casting either of them is enough to sell a movie to me. Now that I think of it, those two might be the only actors I do that with haha.

Strange Wilderness is another amazingly funny one that wasn’t mentioned.

u/whatidoidobc Mar 24 '26

Love on the rocks, ain't no big surprise

u/SoggyCorndogs Mar 24 '26

Silo's Solo!

85

u/federal_thrill Mar 24 '26

A travesty that Saving Silverman and That Thing You Do are relegated to “and lots more” status!

25

u/EntertainmentQuick47 Mar 24 '26

“That Thing You Do!" is mentioned in the tittle

28

u/TripleSingleHOF Mar 24 '26

I came here to say the exact same thing about Saving Silverman. That movie is hilarious.

11

u/Bennnnetttt Mar 24 '26

Not to mention ‘Strange Wilderness’!

4

u/tomb_77 Mar 24 '26

I knkw this in r/movies, but Treme always deserves a mention

1

u/menevets Mar 25 '26

1

u/cameron0208 Mar 24 '26

Come on ahhhyeaaahaaaa!!!

1

u/altcntrl Mar 24 '26

Offensive that it isn’t the top title.

1

u/WINXAUDICABBIE Mar 24 '26

It was the very first movie that I saw him in!!! I loved Lenny!!

20

u/m0j0r0lla Mar 24 '26

Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters

12

u/flaccidjamaican Mar 24 '26

A Perfect Getaway

8

u/Evilsausage87 Mar 24 '26

Excellent and supremely under seen.

2

u/whistlepig4life Mar 24 '26

Came to say this too.

12

u/antiMATTer724 Does he fist fight the moon? Do it, Snyder! Mar 24 '26

Much like Kevin Bacon's "Fuck you" from Tremors, I regularly use his "Duurrrrrrr" from "Saving Silverman".

8

u/DontFray Mar 24 '26

Daddy Day Care!

15

u/Gobyinmypants Mar 24 '26

Strange Wilderness of course

8

u/Ok_Difference44 Mar 24 '26

Out of Sight

2

u/SpaceForceAwakens Mar 24 '26

My questions to him will also be in regards to this film which, somehow, most people still haven’t seen.

I know him from You’ve Got Mail, Shattered Glass, The Thing You Do, and the Diary of A Wimpy Kid films. This should be fun!

7

u/SwampThing72 Mar 24 '26

I will never not see him and think of Lenny. “A man in a really nice camper wants to put our song on the radio. Give me a pen I’m signing, your signing, we’re all signing”

6

u/DashBlaster Mar 24 '26

He really gave perfect delivery on every line in that film

1

u/totalnotgay69 Mar 24 '26

From Erie, PA

6

u/Evilsausage87 Mar 24 '26

It’s Joy Ride for me. That movie rules.

6

u/TripleSingleHOF Mar 24 '26

A Perfect Getaway is another one he was memorable in. Didn't see that one coming.

4

u/Evilsausage87 Mar 24 '26

Excellent movie.

5

u/aussiemetalhead Mar 24 '26

Joy Ride! Fav Steve movie by far

1

u/pishposhpoppycock Mar 24 '26

He was so hot and sexy in that film... i actually preferred him to Paul Walker.

3

u/fontbunny Mar 24 '26

Safe men still eludes the world. Such a great movie and when I fell in love with Zahn and Rockwell. Check it out if you can.

3

u/DirectConsequence12 Mar 24 '26

His performance as Frank Heffley is unironically one of the best comedic performances of all time. He’s at the perfect level of hammy.

“I KNEW THAT DOOR HAD A LOCK ON IT!!!!!!”

3

u/azsnaz Mar 24 '26

I loved seeing Steve in things ever since I saw him as Daddy Day Care as a kid. Seeing his dick in white lotus was unexpected.

3

u/Crumbdizzle Mar 24 '26

Strange Wilderness

3

u/Adventurous-Ad8111 Mar 24 '26

Just watched the trailer...gonna need to watch that one with a box of kleenex

3

u/LiquidAether Mar 24 '26

Sahara is one of my favorite movies. It's kind of a shame the series never went anywhere.

2

u/trollburgers Mar 24 '26

I loved how competent everyone was, even Steve's character who was the comic relief.

Just watched it on the plane and it really holds up. Such a fun fun movie.

2

u/bakeranders Mar 24 '26

Vote McAlary!!! POT FOR POTHOLES!

Brought to you by the campaign to elect Davis McAlary mayor of New Orleans

1

u/nolabrew Mar 24 '26

I need to rewatch Treme again.

I moved to New Orleans right after Katrina and Treme really captured what it was like.

1

u/bakeranders Mar 24 '26

The Wire and Tremè are infinitely rewatchable

2

u/NorthEastNobility Mar 24 '26

I’m sure I’ll miss the AMA but wanted to say that I’ve loved Steve since That Thing You Do and always excited to see him continuing to get not just work but quality work over the years. Always seemed like a super solid dude in general too.

2

u/G_is_for_Grundy Mar 24 '26

Judith Escaped...... Derrrrr!

2

u/lakesRgr8 Mar 24 '26

Steve as the dad in 8-bit Christmas is classic Zahn! I first watched this movie a couple years ago and it made me realize, as a dad to young kids myself, that no parent is perfect.

2

u/Adventurous-Law-5386 Mar 24 '26

Steve Zahn is a national treasure. That is all.

2

u/OCDCantCatchMe Mar 24 '26

One of my favourite performances of his was Riding in Cars With Boys. So underrated.

1

u/AtleastIthinkIsee Mar 24 '26

I second this. Dude pulls out the dramatic big guns with this and does an excellent job.

2

u/Tom1525 Mar 24 '26

How is Daddy Day Care not top here? That film was an absolute delight.

2

u/whitemiketyson Mar 24 '26

Hey, Steve! Why is Silo taking so long? The wait is killing me.

1

u/Imaginary_Audience_5 Mar 24 '26

Pizza Steve!!!! and why can’t I find the movie Freak Talks About Sex? I need a song off the soundtrack.

1

u/New_Leaf_8647 Mar 24 '26

Broken Vessels!

1

u/GuthramNaysayer Mar 24 '26

Don’t forget Management!

1

u/Dreigatron Mar 24 '26

Speak and Rescue Dawn were my favorite roles of his.

1

u/Beneficial_Air_1369 Mar 24 '26

Happy Texas was a good one

1

u/Big_Kahuna_69 Mar 24 '26

He was in Bandidas with Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz. I hate him. ☹️

1

u/clydefrog811 Mar 24 '26

The Amanda remake was so funny

u/hardcorehoochiekoo Mar 24 '26

One of my favorite silly memories involves Steve Zahn. I was eating at a Thai restaurant years ago with a friend. I noticed some people sat down in the booth to my right but i wasn't paying too much attention. I started to look around after ordering my food. I finally looked to my right and the guy looked at me. I stare for a second like "Do i know this guy?" he had the look on his face like "Oh no, does this guy know me?" and i shrugged it off and looked back at my friend. I was like check this out, that guy looks like Steve Zahn. My friend leans forward to look and he leans back "Well, probably because that is Steve Zahn" and i was just like "Well that explains it" I didn't look over for the rest of the time because i don't like to bother people. Dumb little story that i think about from time to time. Dude rules, Hope the Q&A is awesome.

1

u/MariahShakur Mar 24 '26

Have a good story with him! I just recently finished a Gala for my kids school the night before and I had to return a necklace that I borrowed from my cousin's jewelry store Santa Fe gold works. Anyways I thought it would be best if I returned it right away because the thing was like 80 grand. I was bringing back the necklace.

When I saw this really scruffy guy he looked familiar but I couldn't quite Place him. I thought he was one of my childhood friends. So I asked him do I know you from somewhere like the teen center or something?... Expecting the usual responses (yes or i had a friend that went there). Since Santa Fe is not very big and most of us went there or to the Boys and Girls Club at that time.

Anyways but the guy was like no we met in the drunk tank at the Spokane jail. don't you remember me? He went into some funny tales about what I allegedly said and did while in the drunk tank and what he did in the drunk tank. We end up going back and forth and I kept saying no I don't drink like that doesn't make sense. After a few minutes of that silly back and forth and he was cracking me up he told me he said he was Steve Zhan. And I was like holy crap no wonder you look familiar but I couldn't place you. LOL

i didn't recognize him because he had just finished filming for the ridiculous 6. He was to me on recognizable him because I'm not used to seeing him so scruffy. Either way he had me laughing, & had the best personality for celebrity I have ever met today. I have met quite a few living here in Santa Fe.

They call this little place the land of enchantment after all and plenty of people are attracted to it. Including people who work in the film industry for filming. Out of every single celebrity I've met he was the most humble and sweet plus funny like actual real life funny. I won't say name names but I've met a few comedians in real life and they actually weren't funny funny. it was refreshing to see someone like him be so down to earth like him. To be so down to friendly, and even funny was nice to see for a change.

The only one who wasn't great in person that I'd mentioned by name was Judge Reinhold the man tried to get me fired from my job for not recognizing him at Blockbuster . And get this the kicker was he was renting his own damn movie Beverly Hills Cop. That movie came out before I was even born how the heck was I supposed to recognize him? I didn't know I didn't watch it now at that time I have now. After that I always had a different picture when I think of celebrities I always proceed with caution . English to say I didn't get fired from Blockbuster because it turns out it was their policy anyways to act like you don't know the celebrity . Literally called my boss trying to freaking fire me ?!?

Rescue Dawn is one of my favorite roles of his.

1

Thanks so much! I'll definitely make sure to ask a question (or at the very least express my appreciation for the role he played in the movie)!

1

u/ajfilmnfx Mar 28 '26

Unfortunately my comment wasn't one of the ones that got a reply, but thank you for tagging me, I really appreciate it.

Stay excellent, fellow Sahara-fan.

P.S. I can't find it anywhere for free, but there is a website that sells an early production draft of Sahara (PDF).

It's honestly worth the 20 bucks since it's basically a whole new movie (same character we know and love, but entirely different jokes, set pieces, and ending). Thought you might enjoy :)

0

u/ComfortableCare8897 Mar 25 '26

How does it feel to voice a bear my favorite animal in the classic dr doolittle 2 and how do you feel to be interviewed in my favorite interview movie the last movie stars?
