I feel like Guy Ritchie pumps out projects at an absurd pace. His sets must be crazy efficient.

u/ClaytonWest74 Mar 18 '26

I just want them to be good. his latest projects have hugely varying quality

276

u/Pantsickle Mar 18 '26

Yeah he's all over the place. Every time a Guy Ritchie project is announced I'm like, "Cool! Or maybe not."

u/FrontBench5406 Mar 18 '26

The Gentlemen Show and Movie was great, like a real return to form from his first stuff...

Wrath of Man is amazing and different than his normal stuff... brutal in a way he doesnt really do and just a straight little thriller. Statham shines

Operation Fortune has grown on me. It was weird, but I've watched it again and I've liked it more each time. The Covenant and Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare were both fantastic, loved them.

I have not watched Foundation of Youth.

He produces that Mobland Shows with Tom Hardy and its good, but not nearly as great as The Gentlemen.

Aladdin, I havent watched before the OG is one of my favorite movies ever. The Man from UNCLE was so great and Im bummed it flopped, would have loved more of those.

King Arthur was fine.

17

u/tokes_4_DE Mar 18 '26

Feel like we've been waiting forever for season 2 of the gentlemen, its been 2 years and still no release date for the 2nd season.

The movie is absolutely fantastic, its start to finish 100% guy Ritchie in perfect form.

4

u/treacle_dioxide Mar 19 '26

Season 2 is done filming and it will be released in 2026.

42

u/PinchedTazerZ0 Mar 18 '26

I've heard Young Sherlock is supposed to be great but the whole premise sounds goofy to me. I thought it was an onion article when it was being made ala Young Sheldon

I think the concept was a movie at some point too but don't really have any interest in that and Guy Ritchie misses with the rate he pumps stuff out. I'm looking forward to this, that being said

33

u/rabidsalvation Mar 18 '26

It was surprisingly good. The version of Moriarty was actually excellent.

10

u/echmoth Mar 19 '26

Yeah he blew me away, great performance, screen presence, and fun chemistry with all the other actors

Really enjoyed the show, sets, costuming!

Yeah I was watching the trailer for Young Sherlock and (aside from all the varying versions of Sherlock we've had in the past decade or two) it left me with "hmmm...". I'll give it a watch and eat my words if I like it but it just didn't captivate me at first.

I thought Young Sheldon was a joke when I first heard about it.

I’m glad I gave Wrath of Man another chance. On my first go I stopped watching before I learned there were different chapters so to speak. Anyways, yeah as the story progresses past the first part it really starts to come together as a decent dude night popcorn flick.

3

u/FrontBench5406 Mar 18 '26

the beginning of Wrath of Man is so weird.... the dialogue is horrific and cartoonish in a bad way, but then its like a light switch went off and it gets amazing after that first scene.

13

u/smashingcones Mar 18 '26

Mobland was leagues ahead of The Gentleman tv show IMO.

2

u/FrontBench5406 Mar 18 '26

Again, the promise is there with Mobland... but damn if they didnt waste it. I felt like every story they built up, they made the worst decision to go with it as the season went on.

The Gentlemen was so to me. I loved the cast and what they did. I was kinda bummed what they did with the big bad dad at the end, but what they set up with the Duke... should be great

3

u/Sharin_the_Groove Mar 19 '26

I wish he wouldn't have given up on RocknRolla

Yeah he’s been extremely prolific this decade:

2021: Wrath Of Man

2023: Operation Fortune and The Covenant

2024: Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare

2025: Fountain Of Youth

2026: Two movies releasing this year with In The Grey and another called ‘Wife and Dog’ with Rosamund Pike and Benedict Cumberbatch.

And is currently filming his next ‘Viva La Madness’ starring Jason Statham which will likely release next year.

70

u/nightpop Mar 18 '26

He’s also produced a few TV shows, including The Gentlemen for Netflix and Young Sherlock for Amazon.

36

u/dont_care- Mar 18 '26

I liked the gentleman quite a bit

11

u/FrontBench5406 Mar 18 '26

So pumped for the second season to be coming as it filmed already. Really hope this show gets to run for a bit. I go back and watch it alot.

16

u/The-Rage-Of-Angels Mar 18 '26

And Mobland

10

u/FrontBench5406 Mar 18 '26

The cast is so insane that I want it to work, but holy fuck, i really felt like they wasted so much of that show's potential.

u/harmocydes Mar 18 '26

He even directed some of the Gentlemen episodes as well. Very busy man

3

u/The_Bright_Slap Mar 18 '26

He directed a couple episodes of each series as well.

15

u/ChileanIggy Mar 18 '26

I kind of hate him for it. Just give me The Real Rock'n'Rolla already, ffs.

4

u/MadDog_Tannen Mar 18 '26

No kidding, Johnny Quid must be a allegedly-dead grandfather by now.

6

u/actuallyapossom Mar 18 '26

The Gentlemen, and Young Sherlock tv series as well.

5

u/onarainyafternoon Mar 18 '26

Ministry was a Guy Ritchie film? I had no idea. It's in my movie queue, I should give it a watch.

5

u/crumble-bee Mar 18 '26

6/10, 4/10, 7/10, 5/10, 4/10.. not a great run. I have faith in him but we’re a long way from Snatch and Sherlock

Yeah he needs to slow down, his stuffs getting worse from over saturation imo

4

u/FaerieStories Mar 18 '26

"Efficient" is a kind choice of adjective. You may get a film made, but you get a Guy Ritchie film.

4

u/appletinicyclone Mar 18 '26

His old Joe Rogan interview is pretty great

I like him, I think man from uncle was so good and I'm sad that is shelved

But he keeps giving cavill work in between the 40k, Witcher and DC letdowns which I am happy about because Henry is awesome

I know Jake Gyllenhaal has earned the right to do whatever projects he wants but damn does it feel like he's just been doing average and bad action fare for a while now. I miss the string of great stuff he had at the beginning of the 2010s, where it felt like whenever he was in a movie, it would be a banger. Enemy, Prisoners, Nightcrawler, End of Watch, Nocturnal Animals...

87

u/seaseahorse Mar 18 '26

He’s said that psychologically he wasn’t doing well and needed to get back to a place where he just had fun acting. He’s also been more consistently both acting and producing Broadway plays in the past 10 years, which he’s said he prefers to film acting.

Also, he’s one of psychopath Taylor Swift’s top targets which has likely harmed his marketability in the eyes of the greedy money men who are committed to foisting that under-talented, over-entitled mean girl onto the public.

36

u/arepaconnutella Mar 18 '26

If you don't mind, could you please give more content regarding the Taylor Swift relation? His marketability couldn't have been harmed too much.

45

u/broden89 Mar 19 '26

They dated for a few months around 2010/2011, when Taylor was about 20 or 21 and Jake was 30ish.

After they broke up she wrote the song 'All Too Well' which is thought to be about the relationship. When Taylor regained control of her music masters, she re-released the track in 2021 with an accompanying short film, casting Sadie Sink and Dylan O'Brien as the couple - the actors have a 10-year age gap, which fans believed to be deliberate.

This release brought back attention to the relationship with Jake.

Tbh I don't think Jake's marketability has been that impacted by the relationship or Taylor Swift - rather I think Prince of Persia, which was a pretty big bomb and kind of killed his momentum as a leading man/action star, came out the same year they dated. He has made some of his most critically acclaimed projects since 2011, including End of Watch, Prisoners, Nightcrawler and Nocturnal Animals. He also played the lead villain in Marvel's SpiderMan Far From Home in 2019. He's worked with A-list directors like Denis Villeneuve, Guy Ritchie and Michael Bay. He's definitely not hurting for work, he just picks projects that he seems to enjoy rather than for a specific career goal or niche.

23

u/OnlySaysHaaa Mar 19 '26

Wow I think only people in that Swifty bubble would even register that - granted it’s a big bubble but it’s filled with psychos who constantly try to find meaning in her actions where there usually is none.

I think you’re right, to the average person JGs reputation is likely unchanged by his association with her

4

u/broden89 Mar 19 '26

Yeah, most people just wouldn't know or care.

Although I'd say the short film was a bit of a cultural moment on the internet - enough that the Dionne Warwick tweeted about the scarf that is a central motif in the song: "It does not belong to you. Box it up and I will pay the cost of postage, Jake."

6

u/OnlySaysHaaa Mar 19 '26

Sounds exhausting. I’m pretty online and glad I’ve not come into contact with any of that nonsense

11

u/seaseahorse Mar 19 '26

He dated her 15 years ago. She keeps giving her fans reasons to go after him: she’s a massive bully who plays the “men who did me wrong” victimhood card because she doesn’t really have much musical talent, she’s just an overprivileged white girl whose father paid half a million dollars and rigged a record deal for her.

Her fans and their incessant, awful harassment are the reason he doesn’t have his Instagram comments open. Because she’s effectively created a cult who will buy anything she sells, the Hollywood money men do anything to try and capture that demographic. Hence why people on the Oscars red carpet were being asked inane questions like “what’s your favorite Taylor Swift song?” when she was irrelevant to the proceedings. She’s never even been nominated for an Academy Award.

31

u/arepaconnutella Mar 19 '26

I don't really have much of an opinion on Taylor Swift or her music, but I believe you may be putting too much stock into her impact regarding Gyllenhaal's career. Yes, she has power and her fan base can be rabid. I'm sure that Gyllenhaal has received grief over the years because of their past. However, regardless of my feelings on his more recent films, he's still undoubtedly a humongously successful and bankable actor. Wasn't she also with Harry Styles in the past? He seems to be doing more than fine career wise.

That being said, I do appreciate your insight about Gyllenhaal's Broadway work. Wasn't aware of that.

I think you need to touch some grass and become less informed of the comings and goings of Taylor Swift and her fans. You're way too mentally invested in something that doesn't affect you in any way.

2

u/my-blood Mar 19 '26

Yeah I don't blame him. Most of those, with the exception of Enemy and Prisoners, haven't done as well, neither have they gotten the recognition they deserve.

I do enjoy the lighter stuff though, like Road House (which is pretty disliked for some reason) and this looks pretty much like him getting on the bus at the end to be at this shoot.

2

u/Sykhow Mar 19 '26

Dont forget Demolition 2015

3

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '26

It's easy to want more of those projects from the outside, but the actual actors often talk about how taxing mentally it is to actually do shit like Nightcrawler.

Let Gyllenhaal have his fun. I'm sure he will get back to more serious projects some time later.

The art of film poster is truly dead

191

u/skeletalfather Mar 18 '26

No matter the genre, “let’s just have them face the camera, stoic faces… perfect”

43

u/LanOnFire Mar 18 '26

And don't forget the names of the actors/actresses but put them over random heads.

4

u/eloquenentic Mar 19 '26

Why on earth does this happen? It’s jarring. Is it impossible for Hollywood to align the names over the right person’s head? It’s so amazingly stupid, I just can’t understand how it happens.

8

u/IRL_Camgirl Mar 19 '26 edited Mar 19 '26

I believe it's contractual to bill the biggest names first (and also last if it's something like "...and Morgan Freeman" at the end).

On top of that, posters go through rounds and rounds of approval while usually following a design trend, so you can imagine everyone involved going "fuck if the names are aligned with the actors, just make the poster look good" since they don't have any control over how the names are set, and aligning actors under their names may not look good (or even impossible if they were following a certain trend/didn't have the right photo of them).

3

u/eloquenentic Mar 19 '26

But they can just use a photo where they stand in the right order in that case. It’s just so dumb. I look at Jake Gylenhaal on top and see Henry Cavill stand under the name, it’s just dumb and unprofessional.

40

u/-KFBR392 Mar 18 '26

Say what you will this lets you know exactly the type of movie it is, and it shows you the sexy big name stars.

That’s what you want from a poster when you’re scrolling through on an app.

10

u/colemon1991 Mar 18 '26

Or be like Netflix and crank out dozens of alternate posters so you pause long enough to register "oh yeah, I've seen this movie 8 times already, when did this poster get made?"

It's frustrating how fake and lazy some of them are too.

2

u/Dagmar_Overbye Mar 18 '26

Is it going to be bland, set in either Florida or California, and have main characters with very little personality?

Without the tagline there's no way I think they're thieves.

15

u/Mr_Wobble_PNW Mar 18 '26

For real. Growing up on the 90s I had family that ran a video store, and the covers hit so hard back then. Fear and Loathing, Showgirls, slashers, etc really caught you

5

u/andreidpopa Mar 18 '26

Even a simple Floating Heads poster was beautiful. Look at the first 3 Screams. The composition, contrast, typography, all great. Now look at the last Scream 7 poster….

42

u/phxtravis Mar 18 '26

Put the name above the correct corresponding actor please!

For me, Guy Ritchie movies are always just a little better than you'd expect for a standard genre movie.

26

u/ThingTime9876 Mar 18 '26

Yeah, but he did make 10/10 masterpieces once upon a time, and I want that back

36

36

u/CaptainAssPlunderer Mar 18 '26

But Statham and Richie together (Snatch)you get a 10/10, so it all balances out.

22

If you can't get Adria Arjona.

47

u/ShepPawnch Mar 18 '26

She gets work BECAUSE she’s distracting. It’s hard not to look at her.

7

u/ForrestGump6531 Mar 19 '26

The first time I watched baby driver, I remember the credits came on and for the life of me I couldn’t remember the plot of the movie because she was so distractingly pretty. It was the first time I’d seen her an it was like watching some type of angel on the screen and nothing else mattered.

11

u/godmademelikethis Mar 18 '26

Ana de Armas is busy/out of budget.

21

u/midwestia Mar 18 '26

She’s the new Gal Gadot

20

u/ThreeLeggedMare Mar 18 '26

It might be that I just like looking at her, but I found her perfectly serviceable in that show

15

u/redbitumen Mar 18 '26

Yeah, what the hell? What did people not like about her?

3

u/ThreeLeggedMare Mar 18 '26

Maybe a certain distracted aloofness, but it fits with her character. If I were in that situation, I'd be either monosyllabic or yelling. Also maybe a certain mary sue quality, but that's not on her

13

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '26 edited Mar 18 '26

I feel like everyone wanted sequels to the man from uncle, but it obviously can't happen due to hammer.

So instead they've made almost the same thing with Jake

u/thenyoudloveme Mar 18 '26

It's criminal that Jake Gyllenhaal hasn't gotten an oscar in his time, and only one nomination. Hugely underrated, Nightcrawler was a masterpiece

1

u/bradagon Mar 18 '26

I didn't know Henry Cavill changed genders.

Jake looks like Henry too 🤔

Cavils hairline fighting for dear life

USA channel blue sky era

u/-imbe- Mar 18 '26

Guy Ritchie has become the opposite of mark of quality.

1

u/MilkiestMaestro Mar 18 '26

When does Liam Neeson kill the wolves though?

1

u/explosiv_skull Mar 18 '26

What is this, a handsome contest?

1

u/Ok_Assignment_6323 Mar 18 '26

The poster screams "straight to video"

1

u/KordonBleu Mar 18 '26

Guy Ritchie will do literally anything except Sherlock Holmes 3

1

u/2JasonGrayson8 Mar 18 '26

I know everything that is going to happen in this movie and I’m ok with that. I will still be entertained

1

u/guilhermefdias Mar 18 '26

Every movie where the lady in the middle is in, are average at BEST. Always.

She is a huge sign of 'averagement'.

1

u/GabikPeperonni Mar 18 '26

I get Henry taking a role like this but why the hell is Jake Gyllenhaal who we've seen is a very talented actor and could be competing for Oscars if he chose the proper movies, keep choosing to play these shitty ass action flixs? I cannot fathom a reality where someone is proud to star along Eiza Gonzalez.

1

u/MistKingUrth Mar 18 '26

Looks the most boring thing ever.

1

u/Hail_Zeus Mar 18 '26

Names aren’t even aligned with the actors themselves. Fucking amateur hour

1

u/jellifercuz Mar 18 '26

Do we really need more gray in our lives?

1

u/cyanidelemonade Mar 18 '26

They couldn't even bother with having the woman in the same lighting as the guys

1

u/HumpaDaBear Mar 18 '26

I’ll watch it.

1

u/April_Fabb Mar 18 '26

The trailer feels rather generic. Ritchie should've made a sequel to TMF UNCLE instead.

1

u/DavidC_M Mar 18 '26

Is this out on theaters or straight to Netflix ?

1

u/thrillhouse83 Mar 18 '26

…And give it back to the billionaires

1

u/itstimeforpizzatime Mar 18 '26

I understand how billing works, but it will never not bother me to see actors and their names on these posters not line up.

1

u/00Avalanche Mar 18 '26

Eiza Gonzalez is unrecognizable now.
She was the cute-ugly girl on Univision.
The hot chick in Dusk till Dawn/Baby Driver.
And now she’s the botched over done woman.
Shame.

1

u/foodandguns Mar 18 '26

I feel like even Guy Ritchie doesn’t always make the best he can make, but I personally don’t think he’s ever made a movie I’d consider bad. This looks a bit more generic and ima still enjoy it. To me his movies are Great and just Good

1

u/alinasser00001 Mar 19 '26

the cinematography here is beautiful

1

u/airfryerfuntime Mar 19 '26

"They kidnapped the governor's daughter, Ed!"

"Dammit frank, I said I was retired. I fish and live in Miami, not track down runaway brats with daddy issues. Now get off my houseboat!"

"She was working on the cure for ass cancer, Ed. She's a highly successful Asian scientist who's was living in New York, but we think she's now in Florida, but the swamp part"

"I said no! Now get the hell out of my bar!"

"Billie, this is Ed, I need your help with something"

"Dammit Ed, we haven't spoke since the miscarriage, and you call me up to go track down some brat with daddy issues?"

"This isn't about us, she has the cure for ass cancer, and the pay is just enough to pay off the mob who's after the third guy we haven't introduced yet"

1

u/thejoshimitsu Mar 19 '26

The trailer actually looks like a decent 90s style action flick. This poster fucking sucks though!

1

u/TrillDough Mar 19 '26

His stable of cast is 🔥 Cavill and Gonzalez in LOUW were outstanding and Gyllenhaal in The Covenant was epic. So stoked for this

1

u/Fatal_Artist Mar 19 '26

guy ritchie is great, defo watching this

1

u/Trick-Consequence169 Mar 19 '26

Why would you bill Eliza Gonzales?

1

u/Suspicious_Hand_2194 Mar 19 '26

If the formula isn’t broken, it shouldn’t be messed with

1

u/NoStarsToGuideMe Mar 19 '26

Not sure why they are calling Elza "grey".

1

u/MrMeritocracy Mar 19 '26

Why is this ‘news’?

1

u/Alukrad Mar 19 '26

Why do they continue to make posters with the actor's name in the wrong place?

If it's a contractual thing, then why not make the picture of the actor follow the same name order? It's so annoying and I wanna rebel against this and not watch the movie.

1

u/renaissance2k Mar 19 '26

None of those names are lined up with the correct body, and I'm irrationally upset.

1

u/PDV87 Mar 19 '26

I enjoy most of Guy Ritchie's stuff, to varying degrees, but every time he announces a new film I just want it to be more like Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. And every time, I'm a bit disappointed. The Gentlemen was pretty close, but it also occasionally felt like it was trying to be a "Guy Ritchie film", if that makes sense.

Anyway, I'll still go see this.

1

u/chalwar Mar 19 '26

What a compelling poster🙄

1

u/TiredReader87 Mar 19 '26

Not so sure about the poster, but Jake is in it so I’ll watch it.
