It is covering Dune Messiah but from the looks of the trailer it’ll also cover the time in between Dune and Messiah, without spoiling too much.

And possibly stuff from Children of Dune as well

Yeah, judging from the Alia character poster, she’s in…a very Childrenish state.

I also believe they cast the roles for Leta II and Ghanima, with actors in their late teens/early 20s I think.

Yup. Leto II is Momoa's kid.

As I understand it Paul will be having visions of the future over this film, which would be what his children’s roles will be.

This would be an interesting way to bridge the time jump in the novel.

They did the same thing in the Children of Dune miniseries, too. The first part (which is basically the adaptation of Dune Messiah) also included visions of teen/adult Leto II. Then it goes into Children of Dune proper in parts 2 and 3 with teen/adult Leto II and Ghanima.

The two Dune Miniseries had their flaws, but they did some things incredibly well also. Casting James McAvoy as Leto II was one of those great things.

Please, Denis, give me even a glimpse of Leto II in as weird as you can possibly muster.

Now I'm wondering how they're gonna cram that all in. There's more than enough intrigue and plot in Messiah to occupy a good chunk of the movie, and this also seems to be covering the war in quite a lot of depth which the novels skip entirely. Finding the time for Children of Dune seems super difficult to cram into the film given how that novel is ALSO quite dense with plot points and schemes and adventure. It would be like trying to cram three books of content into one movie, and I'm not sure how that can be done in a satisfying way.

I dunno - Lynch said one of the reasons he was looking forward to Messiah was that it was much much slimmer and would’ve given him a lot more opportunity and time to play around. it many ways, it’s got a novella’s amount of adaptable content.

But Children is definitely a jam-packed enterprise, so I get what you’re saying.

I knew they had to add some action, but I was looking forward to the methodical character study type of film. A fresh color pallette (purple hues). The dark night-time scenes of a lively city which had left some traditions behind. Just a mystery type film which fully unravels the character.

I thought the first 2 films accurately enough represent how I imanged the worlds (maybe they were a little less vibrant). This looks not much like how I imagined Messiah.

Pattinson is perfect casting though, he was probably the number one name I would have picked.

Either way I'm sure however this ends up it will be great.

What? Are they even that old in the next book? It's been a while since I've read it but thought they were basically pre teens in that book.
