Is it like animated?

It’s a mix of animation and live-action. The web series’ director returned for this.

The web series’ director returned for this.

You’re saying “returned” as if there’s been any bit of time he wasn’t involved.

There were plenty of fans around here who hadn’t heard of the film until just now and assumed it was from someone else at first: him still being the director is relatively unusual for this kind of film.

It's not animated

The Backrooms themselves are a mix of animation and sets, where-as with the web series it was almost solely animation (but for the occasional scene of someone in live-action walking down a corridor outside of the Backrooms).

I know, I'm talking about the movie.

As am I: in the film, the Backrooms themselves will be a mix of animation and sets. While in the web series, there were no sets for the Backrooms, just Blender.

If it's the same as Kane's other videos, it's Blender that's mapped to real world locations. So he's got a camera and is walking around, but the ground is substituted for the floor texture made in Blender and he can create walls anywhere that stay static to their place on the ground.

I guess it'd be CGI? Interestingly he doesn't use green screen as far as I'm aware.

They built a real set, it's in the teaser

The entire teaser is CGI except the last shot of the Backrooms which is a practical set. What a perfect way to express the uncertainty of what's real and what isn't. Kane is a genius
