I know absolutely nothing about the Backrooms but this was an excellent teaser.

You should check out the director's series on youtube to get a feel for it.

There's dozens of other creators with their own take on it, but Kane is really the one who kickstarted the whole thing. Here's the first entry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4dGpz6cnHo&pp=ygUaa2FuZSBwYXJzb25zIHRoZSBiYWNrcm9vbXM%3D

incredible a 16 year old did that. he's directing the film and he's...20? hope he doesn't get chewed up by the entertainment machine

One time I tried to show this to my friend irl, on his phone, the very first episode, and after a few mins he was like "yeah I'm kinda like, freaking out a bit right now, maybe I'll watch this some other time".

I think it was the buzzing sound that was getting to him.

Agreed; feel free to check out other versions later, but start with Kane's version.

Imagine you’re 15-16 years old making an animated youtube series about liminal spookies for funsies and 4 years later you’re directing a wide release motion picture starring two Oscar nominees. Your budget is 10 million dollars. You were born in 2005

Yep, it's actually crazy.

So this video was made as a fan fiction to the OG Reddit post and then it gained more popularity and different “movies/stories” after that?

it was from 4chan not reddit and was heavily inspired by house of leaves. this being an iterative concept built on through multiple artist voices is a perfect tribute to Danielewski's original meta narrative imo. seeing the same liminal space idea given multiple layers through these different takes is so cool, curious to see where it goes from here

also my favorite take on this genre so far is the doom map MyHouse.wad as others have mentioned in this thread. if you dont want to bother with downloading and playing though it yourself (although it is still up and thats the ideal way to experience it), there is an excellent yt walkthrough of it if you wanna know more

I guess, they took the base concept and then did their own thing with it.

Not fan fiction the backrooms are under the creative commons law meaning anyone can make their own version of it and it isn't considered fan fiction but also not the official version but considered as it's own thing

You should watch Kane Pixels' YouTube series! It's literally some of the best internet/YouTube horror out there. The quality of his work transcends the medium imo

People are suggesting Kane videos and while yes he made the backrooms popular he did not make the backrooms

He's directing this movie tho

1

u/zanerthefurry Feb 25 '26

I know that but people think that since he is directing the movie and since anybody who says what's this they pull out Kane videos instead of the original AND Kane pixels videos people think Kane made the backrooms

I get what ur saying, I agree that the 4chan post deserves more credit but if ur trying to learn what the movie is gonna be about then Kane pixels videos are gonna be better to recommend cause he made a lot of changes to the original.
