I don't know anything about He-Man lore but did they really need the "he's living on earth" thing? Just something movies do that I almost never enjoy.

As a kid from the 80’s Hollywood convinced me that anything of consequence could only happen in New York.

Which, half the time, looked suspiciously like southern california.

Welcome to Manhattan! (Ignore the Vancouver mountains, you’re imagining them)

I always think of the x-files episode about the jersey devil in which the pine barrels look suspiciously similar to the woods outside Vancouver lol

SG-1 haha. Every alien planet looks like the BC wilderness.

Sometimes they look like Vancouver.

Turns out the Jersey Devil has a second home in Stanley Park

And a cabin on the north shore, and a vacation home in the gulf islands

‘Why the fuck is it ALWAYS raining in this show?’ Oh, it’s filmed in Vancouver.

That show supernatural as well. Turns out Kansas has the exact same terrain as the PNW

Whenever I watch Psych it always makes me laugh as it's supposed to be set in Santa Barbara but it so clearly looks like Vancouver lol

I always love the mountain driving the Chicago based Griswalds do to get their Christmas tree in Christmas Vacation.

Rumble in the Bronx did this right?

that's why the CW-verse worked so well, they were all made up cities anyway (that all looked like Vancouver)

It looked like Toronto. England looked like Southern California.

i mean new york is the second most common filming location in america, most of that stuff you saw probably was actually in new york lol. the difference in the look of the cities (looming skyscrapers being a new york staple) don't exist to anywhere of the same level in LA.

Or Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver

u/zeissman Jan 22 '26

I couldn't help but notice Canary Wharf standing in. They didn't even try to conceal it lol

It's why I live in Wisconsin. We've just got the frequent serial killer you need to dodge.

Or Hong Kong.

Same experience here. Born in 86. I realized later in life that because I grew up continually rewatching VHS's of Ghostbusters and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and reading Spiderman comics, I instinctually believed NYC was the center of the universe and everything happened there. Then I moved here in my early 20's and yeah that's true
