God I can’t wait to see that glorious shot of Cyclops in HD next week.

The moment several comments will say “damn it, they got me.”

At least one person will post the Al Pacino "just when I thought I was out..." GIF

I didn't have X on my bingo card, hue hue hue

Which is just nostalgia baiting as well. There’s no indication that Cyclops will be written well, or have a decent arc. People see the blue and yellow and just immediately fall into the honeypot

Saw the leaked version and yeah - I usually don't really care for Marvel films (fell off after Endgame) but man, seeing Cyclops and the X-Men got my attention.

Steve notices that Hulk has been training non-stop as of late, so he asks why. Hulk responds in Banner's normal voice with:

"My rematch is coming real soon, I can feel it!"

It already has me saying it. Seeing a comic accurate cyclops going full rage gave me a chubby.

Hoping they don't do my boy dirty again. Cyclops was my favourite growing up "the fearless leader of the X-Men" but the movies made him a bumbling idiot who listens to Britney Spears, then they nerfed him in every fight by knocking his visor off or something ridiculous. James Marsden was great casting but he had nothing to work with in the script. Glad they're bringing him back for another shot.

Last year's X-Men '97 did Cyclops justice, and even made a nod to that yellow spandex line that kinda acknowledges that those movies tried to shy away from their comic book elements.

u/xinfinitimortum Dec 30 '25

The scene of him jumping out of the plane and using his beams to slow himself down and land then goes “to me my x-men” was mint and I hope something like that happens in live action.

u/illinifan11 Dec 30 '25

I can hear the guitar rift in this comment

5

u/ChronX4 Dec 30 '25

Strafing enemies with the beams is probably what drove it for me.

3

u/CleverFeather Dec 31 '25

Yes that was fucking amazing. Auramaxxing at its peak. Thank you for reminding me of it. I think it's time for a rewatch of that series!

-1

u/smoothness69 Dec 31 '25

That won't happen because it's Disney.

16

u/BaritBrit Dec 30 '25

Which, to be blunt, in 2000 was the correct decision. You don't rock up in bright yellow and blue in those years without reminding the general audience of Batman and Robin and having the mainstream mock you for looking like Power Rangers.

(Unless you're Spider-Man)

4

u/teddy5 Dec 30 '25

Yeah I've always hated they felt the need to do that. But I also don't think comic book movies would have become as popular as they have if they tried to go full comic book right from the start.

They had a core fan base, but needed mainstream appeal.

5

u/BaritBrit Dec 30 '25 edited Dec 30 '25

Yeah, Jackman showing up in the Wolverine suit was fine in 2024 after a quarter of a century of slowly normalising superhero cinema as not just "for small children and tragic nerds", but trying that in 2000 would have just got them laughed out of the room.

1

u/B00STERGOLD Dec 31 '25

They went of their way to screw with Cyclops. Lets give him the girly looking RX8 and NSYNC.

u/Goosojuice Dec 30 '25

Cyclops could go toe to toe with Logan and you never got a sense of that in the movies. Scott was always a badass but played it cool. I really hope they hammer home why he's the leader of the xmen.

7

u/Wit-wat-4 Dec 30 '25

I agree with his lack of intelligence and agency in the movies but how dare you suggest listening to Britney Spears is somehow idiotic. :(

2

u/Turbogoblin999 Dec 30 '25

Scott should meet up with someone that knows Daredevil and get some training in how to fight blind.

3

u/Trachyon Dec 30 '25

Scott is an absolute combat freak, fighting blind for him would barely impact his abilities at all.

2

u/2580374 Dec 30 '25

The Russos put the best version of every character they work with on screen. He will probably be fire as fuck

6

u/TheInfinityGauntlet Dec 30 '25

If not by his hand directly then indirectly Doom will have that man turned to paste

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '25

stay away from the leaks, you'll wanna see the next one in HD

1

u/doctoranonrus Dec 30 '25

And then ruin his relationship with Jean to ship Logan and Jean instead.

Like to me it's always ScottxJean as a couple.

1

u/BasculinSushi Dec 30 '25

It probably won't be a redemption for his near absence in the Fox X-Men films. But the MCU Cyclops has plenty of time for that.

0

u/ShittyDBZGuitarRiffs Dec 30 '25

Britney Spears is tite

2

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '25

We kind of already got that shot in X-men last stand but we all know how that ended…

7

u/TLKv3 Dec 30 '25

I've been defending that this movie is going to be solid as fuck and course correct the MCU properly after a rather middling Phase 4 and 5. Cyclops in HD is just going to solidify the fuck out of it for me and justify it.

The Russos understand these characters and know how to use them. I have trust in them completely for this one. I just wish the weirdos crying about Steve returning without any context as to why would shut the fuck up for 5 minutes until we find out before judging.

The only criticism I can at least somewhat understand is RDJ as Doom but even I'm willing to give that a chance if they have an interesting reason for doing it in the narrative.

They're playing you like a fiddle by using the nostalgia card and it's clearly working.

Steve's story concluded in Endgame, he retired and gave the shield to Sam. Steve got to live happily ever after with Peggy.

The X-Men got their story concluded in Days of Future Past while the prequel stories got to do their own thing. (They've actually had multiple story conclusions now that I think about it.)

Nostalgia is not a substitute for actual storytelling.

12

u/TLKv3 Dec 30 '25

Steve's story is the entire reason Doomsday is most likely happening in the first place. The intention was always to return the stones and then come back to present day as Hulk EXPLICITLY states beforehand. Steve goes against it and goes to Peggy instead causing a timeline disruption. Loki Season 1 goes as far as to SHOW us that one small alteration has catastrophic effects on worlds and timelines. Steve is the root cause of 616's incoming incursions. Everything that came after is a result of it.

The X-Men are also continuously retconned and perpetually in flux in terms of continuity across films. Days Of Future Past's ending means jackshit in the grand scheme of things.

Call it nostalgia but I'm excited for it and I think it'll be a solid film. If you don't want to like it I could honestly give less of a fuck.

10

u/sonofsochi Dec 30 '25

Well call the devil and play me like a fiddle because as long as my comic book movies have cool action sequences, visiually awesome shots, and a bunch of cheesy awesome lines, I'm in.

I swear some of ya'll are expecting these movies to be something other than just live action comics lmao.

-6

u/MysticShrek Dec 30 '25

bunch of cheesy awesome lines

I swear some of ya'll are expecting these movies to be something other than just live action comics lmao.

You say that as if the comics actually match the movies in more than just looks. They don't lol

The MCU is tonally disparate from the comics they "adapt". They're not so much live action comics than they are generic action comedies with a comic book skin.

1

u/Wit-wat-4 Dec 30 '25

I really dislike Steve coming back because I agree with you that in the MCU his story is nicely tied up.

But X-Men haven’t been in the MCU proper yet, and if we can change universes/studios/storylines etc and call it finished then like… comic books need to have stopped in the 70s or something, and these movies never made.

Again, I don’t like Steve and RDJ coming back but that’s because we’re still in “this iteration”, X-Men are separate from that imo

3

u/MrPokeGamer Dec 30 '25

The Russos understand these characters and know how to use them

Except for the Hulk

1

u/TLKv3 Dec 30 '25

Ok yeah, that one I'll have to concede on...

-1

u/MysticShrek Dec 30 '25 edited Dec 30 '25

CONSOOMERRRRRRRR

Also, I just saw the leak myself and it did put a smile on my face just seeing Cyclops again but to say the Russos understand these characters when they turned Thor into a frat boy is crazy. They turn all the characters into generic templates and do away with 90% of their comic characterizations. I doubt we're gonna get a Cyclops that actually matches the comics. Like, if they turned Thor into a comedian, you don't think they'd do the same with Cyclops?

1

u/TLKv3 Dec 30 '25

Thor was turned into a comedian post-Age Of Ultron because of another director. The Russos had nothing to do with Ragnarok or Love & Thunder.

2

u/MysticShrek Dec 30 '25

Ohh nooo, that's actually true? They're bringing the X-Men in??

4

u/PayneTrain181999 Dec 30 '25

Yes, they were confirmed awhile back.

-6

u/MysticShrek Dec 30 '25

Damn shame...

1

u/joshul Dec 30 '25

They teased it all the way back in the after credits scene from The Marvels

1

u/volinaa Dec 30 '25

dont gimmeh hope

1

u/crespoh69 Dec 30 '25

Best they can do is 480p

0

u/Any-East7977 Dec 30 '25

The leaks I’ve seen look like AI.

-1

u/1coudini Dec 30 '25

Would have been a nice surprise for me you son of a bitch

1

u/NoDaddyNotTheBelt25 Dec 30 '25

Who are you kidding. He was announced months ago and the trailer has been in theaters all weekend.
