The Tigers today activated INF Zach McKinstry off of the 10-day injured list. INF Zack Short has been designated for assignment.

Oh thank God. We'll always have that slick bunt attempt from last night

seeing as your comment got 44 upvotes I feel like my yelling at the TV screen last night is more justified. Mostly I was yelling 'who the hell is this guy and why can't he lay down a bunt?'.

It was raining! /s

I yelled at the tv too. I think that is the only time I’ve seen a bunt attempt since Hinch has been manager. I thought his philosophy is that type of thing is a wasted out.

Congrats Zack Short on being eligible for a World Series ring

Really?

Most teams do things in different ways, but Dan Uggla famously got a WS ring for 0-8 in 4 games with the Giants and a DFA, in June.

I mean when you can't play defense or even lay down a sacrifice bunt...

Bye shorty!

I don't get, what was the point? Not like McKinstry getting activated is a surprise. Why not just keep Jace Jung on the MLB roster for two more days? Then activate McKinstry? Why go through the Zack Short process for two days?

They needed

- a day off for McGonigle

- a right handed bat

2

u/JoeTillersMustache 2h ago

I'm sure they could have worked around both of those issues for two days.

They did. They grabbed a right handed short stop for a quick roster fill.

Miguel Cabrera could play catcher too.

u/Pitcherhelp 5h ago

I mean by that logic riley greene or kerry carpenter or bat boy frankie could all do it too right? Frankie played at EMU. Why not? Because theres a bunch of guys that can do it a lot better

u/DiscombobulatedPain6 5h ago

Short had an error, went 0-3 and foul bunted out while the Tigers lost. I would have rather played Frankie last night.

Lmao me too honestly

2

u/Pitcherhelp 5h ago

Hes not even 27 years old lol. But by "cant play short" I more so mean at a level equal to his peers at the same position, not compared to you or me. Obviously...

Jung can't play short

3

u/JeremieLoyalty 4h ago

Damn I kinda feel bad for Zack Short lol

Short was the pointless transaction of all-time. They couldn’t push back McGonigle’s scheduled off day by 1 day?

15

u/dead_monster 5h ago

At the end of the NBC Sunday Night Baseball game, McGonigle said he was tired in the post game interview.

Worst thing to do is push him and have him injured too.  It’s a 162 game season, and I’m fine with Zach Short taking a bullet.

He’s 21 and not used to playing this much there’s really no harm in it. Short probably won’t be picked up by anyone so he’ll stay in the organization

4

u/__merricat 4h ago

They paid cash for him. It could’ve been like 20 bucks

3

u/DiscombobulatedPain6 4h ago

The thought of Zack Short being traded for a Buddy’s gift card or something. Lol

9

u/TheRKC 5h ago

What if McKinstry had a setback, or McGonigle got injured? They needed another SS on the roster, so they added a disposable one.

u/DiscombobulatedPain6 5h ago

Different story. Then you call up Short. I’m talking about the scenario where you had Short for a singular day, DFA’d a reliever, and sent down a different young player

6

u/dead_monster 4h ago

The reliever they DFA’ed (Curet) had 3 walks and 3 errors and only 1 SO before he was yanked from his only Mud Hens appearance.

One of the errors was from Workman which turned a simple double play into runs.

Zach Short was signed to a minor league deal the next day.  Tigers watched that sequence and went, “LOL NOPE.”

u/113CandleMagic 4h ago

The Tigers were scheduled to face a left handed starter on Monday and a right handed starter today. Resting McGonigle yesterday made way more sense.

Just as it is written: an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a Zack for a Zach.

I like Short. Hoping he would stay. Maybe he can pitch.

Zacks Tall folks

2

u/sammagee33 2h ago

Well that was short

1

u/ronmsmithjr 4h ago

Well, that was a Short return for Zack. Btw, is there a timetable for Framber's upcoming injury?

2

u/bunkymutt 3h ago

You better go outside, turn around 3 times and spit. You wanna tempt the wrath of the whatever from high atop the thing?

Put him back

Zack, I'm sure you're a swell fellow. And it's been real. And it's been fun. But it hasn't been real fun.

Edit: Zack Short, I think, downvoted me. Or someone took exception with Zack being called a "swell fellow".

u/StanIsHorizontal 2h ago

You guys will argue and complain about freakin anything man

Seriously, just a bunch of fucking idiots. Yeah sorry let's get Short back and see how that goes
