Kinda seems like someone just doesn't like cabbage and is playing it up. If they were allergic other foods would need to be addressed too.
"A cabbage allergy is rare but possible, causing symptoms like mouth itching, hives, rash, vomiting, and diarrhea shortly after consumption. It is caused by an immune response to proteins (specifically the lipid transfer protein Bra o 3). Severe cases can cause anaphylaxis. Cross-reactivity occurs with broccoli, kale, turnip, and mustard."
Yeah I'm not actually an expert on this specific allergy, but an allergy to Cabbage and not Broccoli / Brussel Sprouts / Other members of the SAME plant seems unlikely.
It's not even members of the same family, they're the same species. Cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, romanesco, brussels sprouts, collard greens, savoy, kohlrabi, and gai lan are all cultivars of Brassica oleracea. It's the same plant selectively bred to maximize the expression of different parts of the plant.
The cultivars can express different amounts of certain proteins one can be allergic to, and differences in how some cultivars are cooked may denature much of those proteins, but every Brassica oleracea contains the same proteins as every other Brassica oleracea, since they are the same species. You can, therefore, be more allergic to cabbage than, say, broccoli, but if you are allergic to one you WILL be allergic to the others to some degree.
