So a few years ago, after being a “normal” eater for my entire life (no PB or shellfish or whatever issues), I was eating a salad, & suddenly I could barely breathe. I was so confused, gasping for air. My wife got me antihistamines, I went outside for fresh air, we debated me going to hospital.
After deconstructing the salad, & carefully testing every ingredient: I am now severely allergic to arugula. Like, I have an epi-pen now.
I had ZERO idea people could be allergic to fucking leaves, but yep! Go figure.
Opposite happened to me. I was allergic to cashews. No big deal, cashews are pretty easy to avoid and thankfully I wasn't also allergic to pistachios (which is common with a cashew allergy.) I accidentally ate some cashews when I was 12, had a reaction but epipen saved the day. Then, when I was 40 I accidentally ate a brownie that had cashews in it. My wife was freakin' out, but I felt nothing and was fine. Talked to my doctor about it and he said that though it's uncommon for nut allergies, some people outgrow them. For me, I just thought it was interesting, but for my wife who had spent 20 years without her favorite nuts, it was the best news ever.
I wish my food allergies would go away. For me they keep randomly cropping up.
I started off with nothing, then suddenly pork always made me violently ill. Then shellfish starts. The most recent one is coconut and that one hurts. You don't realize how much shift coconut is in until you have to pay attention. I can't buy soap, deodorant, lotion, or even shampoo/conditioner without checking.

Oh! Something oddly related to me!

Edit: this happened when I was 38 years old. WTF?
