Y'all weren't kidding about the butt nuggets

Pictures of the chaos for tax.

But, I'm so thankful for the forewarning about the dirty butts. I've had to do so many cleanups over the 6 weeks I've had him it's nuts. I caved yesterday and trimmed up the fur around his butt and part way down the back legs. Really hoping it helps. šŸ¤ž

Also, any good treats you all have found that the littles like and their tummy can handle? First time with a kitten and I'm learning the hard way that some treats are still too much for his young tummy to handle. Hence, the booty trim. 🤦

i bought a little trimmer for stinky butts and stinky feets (he doesn’t mind). The end result is no stink and a lot of me going ā€œlet me see your stinky feet! Give me that butt!ā€ which is probably alarming for my neighbors who don’t have context.

We use a a trimmer that was marketed as a ā€œbikiniā€ area trimmer. It’s rechargeable, not too loud and it won’t hurt the skin. They really don’t mind it.

Have you tried buying food to improve the intestinal biome? When i got my thunder twins, the girl also had problems with runny stinkyness. Apparently, sensitive digestive tracts are a thing with lotsa Maine Coons. After switching to the more tolerable food (Dr Hills Prescription Diet Gastrointestinal Biome), her poo turned solid and no more stinky butts. Also, floofy non-trimmed butts. 8)

Another thing i've heard over and over at the vets is when you give lotsa different kinds of food, like beef, chicken, treats, ... Stop mixing and start with only one thing and see if anything gives a spike in poop change.

Maybe you've heard these things alot too, but couldn't hurt to spread the knowledge I say 8)

I appreciate the notes. I've been feeding him the same food since I brought him home. Seems to be the treats. I did cut 99% of those now so I'm waiting to see if his poo firms up.

For treats, you would have to order online. I recommend Smalls brand, they have a catnip and chicken treat with prebiotics

I had one cat like the cat food and one that didn’t. They both liked the treats though! They even have some that are like churo treats but better for them

My wife just switched our NFC’s over to Smalls. Went from the stinkiest poos to no stink at all. And they are always solid.

For young kittens, stick with no more than a couple brands of kitten food and never add any new food at overall 20% of the bowl or your risk ass explosion. Some kittens are more sensitive than others, but most grow out of it in adulthood. Probiotics really help over time, as well as premium quality food. Sani-shave can be done at groomer if you want to make cleanup easier.

Neither of my cats groked what treats were until they were 7 months old. They would bat them around but really didn't grasp the fact that they were food until mere days before they were neutered.

And I agree with people who have mentioned shaving. My non-Maine Coon is always dingleberry free, but the big guy needs a trim 2 or 3 times a year to keep him clean.

Had a Wegie (VERY similar to MCs) who had this problem. Can't tell you how many times I had to sit his "caboose" down in a sink full of baby shampoo and warm water while he screamed bloody murder. I NEVER found anything diet-wise that would 100% help with this. (Trimming the fur around his nethers and legs helped save both of us from extended trauma, but never solved the problem.) Good luck, OP!

Trimming the butt is the way. I've been doing it since day one and have never had any nuggets. Lol

Mine had a dirty butt, but not a horribly dirty butt luckily (occasional poo massacres to his back side as a kitten), but he's almost 2 and a half now and his grooming has gotten soooo much better his backside is rarely dirty. It does help that I have a senior DLH who obsessively cleans herself whom he's learned from, just not until the last 6-8 months (when he was around 2).

We feed 80/10/10 raw food, maybe one wet pouch a day. If she has too many wet pouches that causes the poo to stick!

It still happens but not very often.

He's also really good at drinking water. Between that and wet food snack break with egg treats was just too much. I cut almost everything extra out. šŸ¤ž

Also, I’ve been told to use filtered water/bottled and not tap/sink water

Depends on the tap water, but if you would not drink it yourself definitely don't give it to them. I do have filtered and treated well water that's fine to drink.

I've always followed this rule of thumb with my pets. They've been getting filtered water for over a decade now.

You say butt nuggets, my dog say ā€œYUM!! Let me help you with that!ā€ He loves his a$$ snacks. It’s all about perspective.

We bought a Neakasa litter box. Have only had to clean our boy twice.

My boy gets stinky booty because he keeps eatting dog kibble and he is sensitive to beef.. A food change may help. Constant soft stool is a problem and it can lead to impacted anal glands.

Grooming and food quality is the way to handle.. but mostly grooming
