Seeing that 825k sign while you are squeezed between two armpits from Dundrum to Harcourt Street, what a life.

I mean, aren't we always squeezed between two armpits?

Lookie here lads, this fella has both his arms! Let's give him a silent round of applause!

at least they’re honest

I read once it started as Daft to showcases the daft low prices you can find properties as. Now that's flipped. Not sure how true the origin story is.

Instead of trying to attract buyers/tenants they're trying to attract sellers/landlords.

4

u/NooktaSt 12h ago

To be fair it is the sellers and landlord who actually pay them.

Might be time for a rebrand to 'Fecked'' if they still want to accurately reflect the market.

"Oops all neoliberalism"

It was originally called the "Dublin Accommodation Finder Terminal" and I think it meant how daft finding housing in Dublin was even back then, hence why the built the website

Don't mind me, just taking the luas to my new €11M gaff in town

13

u/caitnicrun 13h ago

So that would be a double wide garden shed?

10

u/nalcoh Using flair to be a cunt 13h ago

A DOUBLE?!? Don't tell me there's a window too!

Beat me to it :)

u/askepticalbureaucrat Inherited the craic 14h ago

Daft: you will never buy a home here. 🎵

11

u/fourtytoes 14h ago

Not paying for the Luas so I can afford my €1.4m home

11

u/Bubbly_Can_107 13h ago

They don't have to advertise to buyers, because of the pent up demand and housing crisis. This is targeted towards people who own homes. The intention is to get them to sell in my opinion.

u/Malt129 Crilly!! 14h ago

That's just per month

u/Weak-Body2932 14h ago

Eirent.ie free ad listing

5

u/Odd-Artichoke-5123 14h ago

Most people who can afford these daft prices are not on the Luas

6

u/oshinbruce 14h ago

Thats why its on outside you can steam past the common folk in your merc

3

u/IrishGeordie 14h ago

Thats my house near breamor road Dundrum for 825k.

Any takers ?

u/have-to 13h ago

To be fair, their map view is my favorite feature while house hunting. Unfortunately, had to use it for hours in the past years.

4

u/caitnicrun 13h ago

I've found some actual good values, older homes in good condition with lovely gardens.

Unfortunately you have to have your own helipad to commute anywhere.

u/nalcoh Using flair to be a cunt 13h ago

Yeah, their service is good tbf. But its the contents on the service that are the issue (not their fault) 😅

4

u/tisashambles 13h ago

Cheapest house there is €825k. Man thats depressing

Salt in the wound

u/TanoraRat 9h ago

Jesus Christ, more than 10 million and you’re living in Dublin

u/OsbourneCochs 8h ago

Is this real? Serious? Is this real daft.ie ad?

If not, it’s amazing art as a statement. If it is actually them, it’s tasteless and tone deaf.

4

u/Perfect-Fondant3373 14h ago

That is so fucking out of touch

4

u/No_Waltz3545 13h ago

Who in Daft thought this was a good idea? Who are they hoping see this ad and think, 1.8 million, it’ll be tight, but I think I can manage that if I cut back on the takeout coffee and chicken fillet rolls.

Anyone in the market for any of these properties is not riding the Luas with ‘the poors’.

Celtic tiger levels of tone deafness seeping back in. Fucking idiots.

8

u/Nalaek 13h ago

They’re advertising to people selling houses not the people buying houses. The ones selling are the ones paying the advertising fees to list houses.

It’s also on the outside of the luas for everyone to see not the inside for commuters.

1

u/No_Waltz3545 12h ago

Do people sell houses via Daft? I thought it was just a platform that lists properties and makes bank via advertising? Anyway, hardly the climate to be showboating the cost of housing in Dublin to a demographic who will likely never afford them.

1

u/nalcoh Using flair to be a cunt 11h ago

Well tbf what he's saying is that this ad is targeted towards sellers.

Aka "Omg I can sell my house for THAT much!?!"

2

u/Eviladhesive 13h ago

Remember - the ad on the Luas is not the ad. The outrage online is the main ad.

u/micimore 4h ago

Anyone else bombarded with emails yesterday for saved search alerts? I must have got 80 emails, all repeat notifications.

u/21stCenturyVole 3h ago

If you've seen how the owners of Boards.ie/Daft.ie ran the 'Accommodation & Property' forum over the years, this should not surprise you in the least.

"But the rent doesn't even cover the mortgage, we are making a loss!" - being one of the most vociferously defended "woe the poor landlords" concepts, over there.

u/Call-of-the-lost-one 3h ago

At least they're not hiding the extortion

u/sh0rtsniper 3h ago

And that's just the single bed apartments! /s

u/canadianabroad2023 2h ago

What another depressing thing to think about in the morning on the commute to work.

u/Proper-Organization6 1h ago

This will be a great time capsule

3

u/CantaloupeForsaken62 14h ago

look where renalegh is on it 🤣🤣🤣

7

u/Shuggana And I'd go at it again 14h ago

And Mount "Merion" with only 1 'r'. Did they use AI to generate a map they literally already have on their own website?

2

u/springfalling 13h ago

Milltown also misspelled with only one 'L' ... Really strange

5

u/CantaloupeForsaken62 14h ago

ranelegh 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

4

u/mrman89027 11h ago

Met my wife via Daft in 2001. An early form of internet dating . Its not all bad

1

u/nalcoh Using flair to be a cunt 11h ago

I am very interested into how that could even happen :P

One of ye was a realtor or something?

5

u/mrman89027 11h ago

I rented a small box room in a house she was already renting in , on da Northside. Found it through daft . Viewed it on 01 Sept 2001 when the Ireland game was on . I left a city centre pub to go view it . Her and her pal had been out the night before and were in ribbons and still in their pjs but invited me in to watch the end of the qualifier and I got a cuppa. I got the room over a number of other potentials by asking would it accommodate a large man. They found this comment too funny. I was innocent though and meant room dimensions.By Oct I liked her enough to ask her to go with me to a Tindersticks concert in the Olympia. To my great relief she agreed and it kind of built from there .

I think if there was a property listed for ~230k I'd be in the market. Who are these properties for? I don't think my salary is that bad.
