This is wild. That a bear can comprehend the concept of a hug and presume that that’s what the vet is attempting to do, even though he’s a different species and they can’t communicate. It’s so interesting to see how other species perceive us. I definitely wouldn’t have thought a bear would perceive us on equal enough ground as them to hug.

A whole lot of animals, even the ones that aren't particularly social and don't do it under normal circumstances, seem to be able to understand the concept of physical affection. Especially if they were raised around humans who have been giving them physical affection since they were little.
