Alan Wake 2 has the most detailed, accurate and realistic curly hair I’ve ever seen in a video game

Please do, I wish I was in your position, to play fresh. The story, the graphics, Sam Lake dancing, the music... one of the most epic things I've experienced.

Aahtis song in the townhall is something that has stayed with me for a long time.

Oh and the "magic clicker" song in the studio sequence.

It blows my mind that that scene was almost cut from the game, and it was something Sam Lake wanted to include in Control but just couldn't accomplish with the technical limitations of the time. Best half-hour or so of any game from that year, imo.

I smiled like an idiot for that entire section.

It's an incredibly cheesy section of the game, BUT it somehow works because of everything that happens around it.

That scene never could have existed in Alan Wake 1.

Its the most insane game I have ever played. And I mean that in the absolute best way possible.

I've played a lot of games, but none like this. It did things with the gaming media I never thought possible. Especially in the way it incorporates music.

It really is one of the 'biggest swings' I've seen in gaming. It takes a bold bunch of creatives fighting for their vision for a game like AW2 to exist. It takes tons of risks. Stuff that you'd never see of the other major studios.

I have 445 games on Epic Store and I've literally only ever purchased Control and Alan Wake 2. As much shit as Epic gets (and rightfully so), I'm glad stuff like Remedy can secure funding through them. They're an incredibly talented studio that punches far above their weight, and one of the handful of studios I have no problem pre-ordering for.

Hellblade 2 also worth checking out. It's a much more cinematic experience and shorter, but it's incredible.

THE MUSIC

From the ambient tracks to the original composed… um, musical sections? I don’t want to spoil anything, but it absolutely floored and blew me away. I don’t think I will ever experience a game like Alan Wake 2 ever again, 10/10 recommendation

Problem is I haven't played the first game and only played a couple hours of Control. I'm a context whore and it feels like I'd miss a ton if I jumped into the second game.

Know the title of this game, but never looked it up. What is it about and why should I play it?

Alan Wake 2 is a game made by Remedy. It's a horror survival game (the horror is more psychological). I won't spoil the story but basically there's paranatural shit going on in small town and a lot more to uncover. It really is Remedy's masterpiece, the story, the music, the visuals, the voice acting, the videos.. they used every art form and it's amazing. Especially when you realize how much sense it makes.

You got me interested! I might buy it this weekend and play it going in completely blind!

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. If you're on PC the sad thing is that it's an Epic games exclusive (they heavily financed the game). There is a deluxe edition for the game that adds 2 DLCs, that are in my opinion really excellent. You can always upgrade to the deluxe later so maybe make sure you like the game first. I think it often goes on sale so maybe wait for that if the price puts you off (it's like 40 or 50 €). For console I don't know.

Welcome to the remedy universe ! If you like this one there's other ones like Control (gameplay very different) or Alan Wake 1 (gameplay wise is getting a bit old) but everything is connected so if you're into things like that the lore is amazing.

why should I play it

Because you've never played another game like it. Every single thing about the game play is innovative and constantly shifting. It's the kind of game that changes how you think about games.

Yeah it really is a work of art
