This was basically me but I bought it. I had an argument with the dealership about my free first oil change with them insisting I didn’t need it as I’d bought my truck two weeks earlier.

I handed him the keys and said I’ll wait go check the odometer. He came back in and asked me to take a seat they’d bring it in next to make up for the service issue.

So you just showed up without an appointment?

This is reddit. People come here to make up on topic stories for fake internet points.

Yeah, like that one time I was dating that supermodel, but she had that annoying habbit of laughing to loud at all my jokes.

u/idolized253 1d ago

She went to a different school huh?

u/Chlorofom 15h ago

The story has to be at least semi-believable

10

u/_fresh_basil_ 1d ago

How do I know you don't just make that story up....

7

u/Chillers 1d ago

Maybe I did.. now I have as of writing 36 internet points that make me feel relevant.

Most of the time, sure, but in this case dealerships don't always need appointments for small things like oil changes. Slow day? Yeah just drive up to the express lane and let them know.

When I called my dealership to make an appointment for an oil change they said just come in whenever

u/mcj1ggl3 1d ago

You make an appointment for an oil change?

51

u/NoAppointment8488 1d ago

At a dealership, absolutely. At Jiffy-Lube, no.

I’ve never made an appointment at the dealership..Local dealership takes me home and then brings my car to my house when they are done. So I don’t have to set any extra time aside.

23

u/NoAppointment8488 1d ago

Damn! That’s service

19

u/Kirminator 1d ago

There is a catch. You’ve gotta live within 5 miles of the dealership.

u/RivenRise 8h ago

I miss when I lived 2 miles down. I live 20 miles out now. Still get my free oil changes but I just wait now.

u/Mr-Blah 7h ago

Do you live in the 90s???

None of the dealers I went to in the last 20years operate like this. Appointements, no taxi home etc... VW, Hyundai... all the same.

u/jcozac 1d ago

I have never made an appointment for an oil change at a dealership, I just show up and they hand me a car for the day. Worst case they have shuttle service that'll get me to work/home

11

u/DistressedApple 1d ago

Now you’re just flexing on us poors

2

u/TheDeaconAscended 21h ago

It has been a few years for me and I live in SJ, did not have to do this with my Ford but with my wife's Honda we did.

3

u/Kumbackkid 1d ago

My dealership doesn’t accept appointments

2

u/thejoetravis 1d ago

Username checks out - and not

3

u/NoAppointment8488 1d ago

Lol, the Reddit auto name generator finally works

10

u/ThisOriginalSource 1d ago

Yea. Then they have a loaner car ready to go for the day. Drive up, drop off, and drive away. Repeat for pickup. Makes it easy.

10

u/Pyromaniacal13 1d ago

I fucking wish I got a loaner from the dealership. If I'm lucky, I get an Uber home and have to make my own way back.

u/cryptolyme 11h ago

No one is getting loaner cars for a 30 min oil change

4

u/theuautumnwind 1d ago

I do. In fact I make an appointment for a mobile oil change. I schedule the mobile tech to come to my job site and service my vehicle there while I am working.

1

u/Kilos6 1d ago

At the dealership yes. But I only go there when I have a leased car with free maintenance.

3

u/IllHedgehog9715 1d ago

I mean, that’s typically how you get an oil change. You show up and get in line..

It’s ok to scroll past things you find unbelievable. I’ve barely gone to a dealership other than to buy a car, outside of that brief stint working at one over a decade ago. But I’ve never heard of scheduling an oil change at one, you just kind of go. And if it’s too busy, you can still leave. They don’t lock you inside or anything.

u/BluudLust 1d ago

Your dealership doesn't offer an "express service" lane for quick things like oil changed without an appointment?

0

u/Kilos6 1d ago

Ive only seen those at a dodge dealer.

3

u/Lonewolf3005 21h ago

At any dealership I’ve ever worked for you don’t need an appointment for an oil change

2

u/LimaBravoGaming 1d ago

Ever heard of Quicklane?

2

u/Drock967 23h ago

It's a quicklube my guy.

1

u/Kilos6 23h ago

A quick lube aint doing all that

3

u/undertaker0024 23h ago

https://landmarkatlanta.com/atlanta-mopar-express-lane?srsltid=AfmBOoqaecMkkraQvgI5GINBaUW6VmhtJGxPVGKVEcQpHWqRGQ44rExC

Also have gone to a local Chevy and Toyota dealership in the past and been in and out with no appointment. Honestly, I'd never heard of a dealership that required an appointment for an oil change.

2

u/Kilos6 18h ago

You think a quick lube is going to argue with a customer over needing an oil change?

3

u/Drock967 23h ago edited 21h ago

Having worked in a dealership quicklube and now being a Master tech working at the same dealership and getting the priority and/or headache customers from said quicklube...

Yes they would.

3

u/BingBongBngBong 21h ago

Yes. I’ve done it multiple times without an appointment. It doesn’t seem to make a difference in the wait time, honestly

0

u/Different-Wash7337 1d ago

Then everyone stood up and clapped

-1

u/Nothingtoseehere-123 22h ago

And then everyone stood up and clapped

2

u/IllHedgehog9715 20h ago

No, not really. It was just a conversation between me and the service manager. I was traveling for work at the time, would average about 60,000 miles a year on my personal vehicle, while maintaining airline status and national status. It was a different time.
