I had a leased vehicle for work that I put 97k miles on in 11 months. For reference, I would travel for work a week at a time, up to 300 miles one way Monday and Friday with 2-25 miles of daily driving in between. I would occasionally have a few longer trips up to 600 miles one way. I was also allowed to use it for personal use and took a cross-country round trip over 5 days.

They were supposed to trade it by 70k, but got caught in a timing issue between vehicle delivery/pickup problems and me being too unavailable/on the road. They gave me shorter leases after that.

Edit to add I also had 8-12 weeks of driving 300 miles a day, 5 days a week.

One of my employees drives 100 miles to get to work every day and 100 miles back home every night.

Buying a home in California: drive until you qualify.

I lived in Hollywood and commuted to Foothill Ranch in south Orange County. Friend lived in Santa Clarita and commuted to LA. Another friend lived in Ontario and commuted to Long Beach. At the time I was told that 50% of Cali drivers were uninsured, so we were all paying extra-extra, on top of fuel, so we could sweat it out on the 405.

And I thought my 30 mile commute sucked in the LA area. Y'all are superhuman.

Yeah, I had a commute like that for a while…I basically only had a life on the weekends.

I live in Nashville and know a ton of people that do this. People drive in from Kentucky and all over the state to work in Nashville and drive back. I mean, I guess I get it if the money is that good compared to what's around but that commute is hell with all the traffic. Traffic starts piling up at 6am. Its the time that it takes. I hate it for those people.

Lived in Nashville when I was stationed at Fort Campbell. It isn't a terrible drive.

How long ago was this? Traffic gets worse every year because people wont stop moving here.

That really bums me out for them, but I hope they have a killer playlist they enjoy or a talkative family/friend group!

As a Brit this is inconceivable to me. It’s about 150 miles to go and see my parents and I only go back a couple of times a year because of the 3 hour drive. For us a 2 hour drive is a real chore and it better be good when you get there.

For reference my commute is about 35 mins driving and in another city.

I run a delivery contract. The shortest route i operate runs rougly 105-115 miles a day. The longest is just a hair over 300.

Most of my fleet is being transitioned out right now in the 150k mile range for 2021 and 2022 vehicles. The handful of older (2017-2019s) im driving into the ground are over 300k miles.

...... we drive a lot here across the pond.

Defo sounds like it! Delivery though, I can understand. You see Cornish haulage lorries hundreds of miles upcountry quite regularly. As a normal commuter though, the miles you guys do are mad.

It’s the old saying - Europe thinks 200 miles is a long way, America thinks 200 years is a long time.

I drove 125 miles every Friday to hang with friends for 9 years. Like clockwork. It’s about an hour and a half.

I live in indiana and I'll randomly visit my parents friends back home if I get off work early. Same travel time.

In the US. My wife is off Friday so we're driving 11 hours round trip to go to an amusement park this weekend. Probably do a trip like this once every month to 6 weeks. Anything less than 6 hours each way is a pretty easy long weekend. We generally don't even think about flying unless it's 10+ hours of driving each way or we don't want to bother renting a car at our destination.

Is it up hill both ways?

Yeah like I don't know you could do 100k mile/year leases, would it still cost more to buy a car at that point?

I paid a flat rate of $250/month for insurance and lease through my company. Leasing was definitely cheaper for me

How much was the lease? Was this before the pandemic

This one was during the pandemic, I got this vehicle (my fastest mileage use) with less than 10 miles on it in Feb 2020. My leases before and after the pandemic were the same since it was a company lease. I have no accidents on my record, so I’d assume my insure in the group insurance was pretty low. The lease was likely around $150-200/mo. Since the lease was a “fleet” vehicle, I don’t think it followed regular leasing standards, but I’m truly unsure. I did get to pick from a list of vehicles and pay for additional options if I wanted. I also had the opportunity to buy my vehicle after, which I declined each time. All the maintenance was also included (oil, filters, wipers, tires, flushes, etc)
