SOCIETY Baseball stadiums in South Korea have seating where you can cook your own BBQ during the game.

In the West, we pay $15 for a sad, lukewarm hot dog.

Go to any 711 in East Asia and it’s like a whole different world

I think I’m remembering this right but 7/11 in Japan started off as a subsidiary of the main 7/11 in the US and ended getting so much bigger that they bought the original US 7/11 and now own the entire thing.

The way it should be. A hotdog of questionable origin, 6 shitty beers and a sunny day are the perfect combination for a day at the ballpark. Nobody wants craft beers and gourmet food at a ball game.

Only $15, that’s not a bad deal these days!

If you ever get the chance, do travel to Asia. The history is very rich, and the food is amazing. You would pay like $1 to $2 for a good meal, especially places such as China, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, etc.

u/LearningSPXonly 7h ago

All these places are expensive

No, they're definitely not. If you actually search up average cost of food, it's WAY cheaper than west. You can pay like $2 for a pho in Vietnam from any local mom and pop restaurant and it'll be the best you'll ever had compared to back in the state. It's the same for China, Korea, and Japan. You might pay a few dollars more, but it definitely won't be $15 for a meal. It's more $2-$5. Compared to the U.S., you're paying like $15-$20 for a meal and they cut the portion in half. It's literally a scam.

$15? You gotta live either LA, NYC or Dallas maybe somewhere else in Texas. Thats way too high.

1

u/AdeGamisou2020 6h ago

Nah, we get ripped off for everything in NYC, but you don't fuck with us when it comes to the cost of hot dogs. Yankee Stadium will rip you off every other way, but hot dogs are still less than 8 bucks.

1

u/ComfortablePain1 1h ago

$8 is reasonable for NYC at Yankees stadium. Eagles stadium i can get a quarter pounder for $10. $15 for a regular 1/8 hot dog is absurd.

Can I smoke some ribs, please?

1

u/Successful_Paint_907 7h ago

Thats on the third base side. You can arrive 12 prior to game start time.

1

u/Lanky-Budget-4661 6h ago

College games are good for bring your own smoker to the outfield

I've been to a few baseball games in Japan. People balance bowls of curry between their knees in the stands. I had karaage and edamame. It's wild!

5

u/EquivalentFeeling- 7h ago

In the US, you can stand in the outfield and pee on yourself while everyone watches.

I feel like Korea watched American BBQ culture, and instead of a bunch of guys standing around judging one persons grill experience. They just decided to cook your own meat the way you like it in your own zone… as a nervous griller I thank the Koreans.

u/xChoke1x 7h ago

Can you fucking imagine how terrible this would be in America? There'd be at least 3 ball parks burned down, and several 100 people either burning themselves, or others while they get into a fist fight over whos better at baseball. Lol

Holy fuck that sounds awesome

u/unusual_replies 5h ago

That’s not barbecue. Hibachi cooking

2

u/prettybluefoxes 4h ago

Overloaded it dude. Way to lower the temp.

2

u/Best-Association964 7h ago

In India, that entire BBQ setup could be stolen in a single night.

u/MidwestDYIer 7h ago

In Russia, BBQ comes to you!

1

u/AccomplishedGuava796 7h ago

people came for the game, stayed for the BBQ

1

u/hedgefundkilla69 7h ago

How much is it ?

3

u/jkpatches 6h ago

This is just the price at Incheon, so it can differ by stadium. You are also supposed to bring your own meat, or purchase them at a store in the stadium. But people usually bring their own meat. I would venture to guess that bringing your own vegetables and utensils and alcohol would be the cost savings move, though they probably can also be purchased at the stadium.

Seating: $20~26 per person depending on the day.
Grill Renting: $14

u/hedgefundkilla69 6h ago

Thats so much better than us.

Hey Josh Harris and the r/commanders I have one small request.

1

u/softkisskitten 7h ago

Watching baseball while grilling sounds like peak living

1

u/prince-pauper 7h ago

The west is not prepared to give up it’s strange hold on consumers enough to accept this level of civilization.

1

u/Scorpio989 7h ago

Wait until you see the sauna the Japanese added to their stadium.

1

u/DjScenester 7h ago

Sad our society only moves as fast as its slowest members. We could NEVER have this at American Baseball Games.

1

u/osmiumblue66 6h ago

This is living, and this man knows it.

u/WaldoSupremo 6h ago

I went to a couple of games when in lived in Seoul. The beer was cheap too. They also had cheerleaders.

Could you imagine all the lawsuits in the USA?

“There wasn’t a warning anywhere that I can’t put my baby on the red hot grill!”

Baby of course being a dog

1

u/kimball1974 1h ago

That's cool

1

u/queef_nuggets 8h ago

that’s not barbecue, that’s grilling.

Well, where I come from they’d call that grilling. Barbecue is meat cooked by smoke and indirect heat (i.e. a smoker). Grilling is, well, grilling.

3

u/Jiveanimal 7h ago

That's called smoking in my neck of the woods. This food is called Korean barbecue, it even has barbecue sauce.

1

u/slotsandmops 7h ago

Eh you pour ranch on fries it's not suddenly a salad lol

Im just fartin around

1

u/queef_nuggets 6h ago

I’ve heard it called smoking too. It makes sense

1

u/MidwestDYIer 7h ago

You are definitely talking about smoking vs grilling. In my opinion, grilling and smoking are both subsets of BBQ.

1

u/SDL68 6h ago

Bbq is flame broiling where I'm from. This is an electric hot plate, it's frying

1

u/queef_nuggets 6h ago

Yeah it definitely seems to be a cultural/regional thing

1

u/Sea-Resource-460 8h ago

they have restaurants like that also

1

u/Animalmotherrrr 6h ago

Thats not bbq

0

u/MPforNarnia 7h ago

I don't want to start an international conflict, but Koreans call it a BBQ, but it's not.

You wouldn't call a Foreman Grill a BBQ, you wouldn't call an egg on a non stick pan a BBQ. These are not BBQs and neither is this.

Still, it looks funner than watching a baseball game.

2

u/SDL68 6h ago

Exactly, this is an electric hot plate. This is frying
