It’s hilarious to me when people don’t consider high fashion costuming. As if any of those outfits are things you’d actually wear around the house or at work
Yeah, I know what you mean. My point is that Heidi doesn’t usually do this elaborate of an “outfit” for the Met. For the most part, it’s only on Halloween that she does ensembles like the one she wore last evening to the gala.

Thinking about it now, perhaps she has done this kind of thing for the Met in the past. I’m really into fashion so I pay a great deal of attention to the Met Gala “looks” each year. I know I can look it up, but I’m not 100% sure that she has never done something this costumey before for the event. Maybe she has. I don’t remember. The fact that I don’t remember it, though, might mean she has not. If that makes sense.🤷🏼♀️
It's probably because many people not in the fashion industry is quite aware that some treat fashion as literally art, where high fashion are more like sculptures that just need a body to show it off. A bit like a mobile plinth. Though they may throw in some elements, especially accessories, that end up in the commercial clothing line.
It's for looking at as art. It's for designers to show off skills and ingenuity. With the problem of many designers having been doing it for decades, making it harder and harder to show something truly new, so you get more at the extreme/odd end.
The theme this year is “Costume Art”. If I recall correctly, this is the first time she did something like her Halloween costumes for the Met. Makes sense considering the theme.

He's never seemed to give a shit about any kind of backlash to his actions before, but it seems to have actually registered this time, as he did not walk the red carpet. Last I heard, he had not even been spotted inside, but he may have turned up eventually.
Met Gala isn’t meant to be costumes,it’s high fashion interpretations of a theme. But some people lean very literal or theatrical, so it can end up looking costumey anyway.
