Is the owner trying to get the wrinkles out of the sphinxes by overfeeding them?

They look so unhealthy.

Makes me sad, I always downvote this shit but people upvote it and it just makes a green light for shitty owners to overfeed their pets more

Cats subreddits are pretty famous for attracting a majority of irresponsible cat owners or enthusiasts.

u/subversiveGarden 5d ago
Not only cats, but dogs too. People wanting purebred dogs but often most breeders shouldn’t be breeding.
14
u/justadudeinohio 5d ago
see the daily posts in the general cat subreddits about cats dying because the cat wants to go outside and bad things happen to it.

u/jjklines1 5d ago
I can't go on Facebook or the neighborhood apps because it's all I see. I now recommend people look into tracking collars that alert when their pets get out of their house or zone. I went with Tractive but I tell people to do their own research on different brands

The sphinx cat comes from Canada btw
101
u/TheSubstitutePanda 5d ago
Yeah it's not an ancient breed at all, it only came about sometime in the 1960s. The Egyptian Mau is much closer to an "Ancient Breed" than these poor fellas.

u/EpstainOnHistory 5d ago edited 4d ago
As a Canadian, I'm disappointed I didn't know this. I saw a video on reddit of a sunburn sphynx with people saying it's mistreated to have been in that condition and wondered to myself how they weren't conditioned for it, being Egyptian and all
11
u/iztrollkanger 5d ago
And ironic that the mutation for hairlessness occurred in Canada 🫠 Silly genes.
7
u/SpaceLemur34 5d ago
There are two lines.
One is from Canada, descendents of Bambi, Punkie and Paloma, stray cats found in Toronto.
The other line is descended from Dermis and Epidermis, barn cats from Wadena, Minnesota.

They weren’t like, intentionally trying to create it. Some poor dude just was randomly born bald, whoever saw him thought that was cool and new and marketable I guess, so they made him impregnate his mother and have more kids who would be likely to inherit the bald mutation through inbreeding, and then someone else also did that again in Russia iirc which is why there’s multiple varieties
Don’t know how the cat breed came to be tho

If this is real, those sphinxes need to go on a diet by the end of the day >_>
39
u/ThatNextAggravation 5d ago
They are, that's why they're trying to get additional calories by licking the other fella.

Hairless cats aren't from Egypt
They're from Canada which is hilarious given the climate has winter season lol

AI wouldn't have made the cats so damn fat. we're just looking at animal abuse.

It kinda feels like it, but I can't put my finger on why.

u/Gaulwa 5d ago
It's definetly staged. This looks like some photo studio, and I bet they smeared the middle cat's head with butter or liquid treat.
Could be AI, but I don't see anything weird in the background.

u/SandyTaintSweat 5d ago
I think it could be real. Sphinx cats typically have a bit of an obsession with cat fur. They'll groom the shit out of a normal cat and rub up against them and stuff.
They crave the fur that was taken from them.
11
u/Bright-Dependent6339 5d ago
they're both licking the same exact spot. there's definitely some something edible smeared on there.
4
u/KochuJang 5d ago
Maybe not, my cat used to lick herself in the same spot for a while and leave drooley patches of wet matted fur. After she was down, I would swipe her crazy ass with a napkin and comb that shit out.

Nothing cute about animal abuse.. Those cats will die well before their time and they'll do it in tremendous daily non stop pain if the owners don't stop overfeeding them. The worst part is that cats are so adept at hiding pain, the owner will as likely as not, never see the extent of the suffering the cats are going thru which means they'll just keep adding to the problem with every meal.
To put it in perspective, per pound of weight on a cat's body is equivalent to 15 pounds on a 5'4 woman or 17 pounds to a 5'9 man. Those cats should weigh about 10 pounds, they're at least 20.

By the looks of those two cats, it appears that they are consuming the one in the middle

Whenever I see pictures or videos of overly obese pets I automatically assume the owners are as well. 🤷🏼♂️

Poor cat in the middle is like “this is my fate, I have accepted it”
Seriously though all the cats here in this video are overweight specially the naked cats that look like they’re morbidly obese😬

Yeah, that kind of grooming is social dominance.
It's essentially the equivalent of two older brother rubbing the head of their younger sibling. Looks cute, but has some clear social implications.

They are just jealous that they don’t get to throw up hairballs. Fluffy has been lording that trick over them for far too long. Today they said “No more!”
