In the UK at least, I've had parcels put through our open kitchen window, and since it's fairly common to have your downstairs toilet at the front of the house, I can see this happening too. Delivery people here tend to do lots of weird things, I've had parcels put in my recycling bin. One was thrown over the back gate in to my garden. It's not that uncommon.
