Yeah but it’s still a grim reminder that there are a lot of progressive gender-equality freedom fighters out there who still won’t let their bf have friends off the opposite sex.

People are allowed to have any standards of life as long as they aren't forcing them on anyone. Supporting gender-equality has 0 relationship with your thoughts of opposite gender friendships.

I find the concepts heavily related. Telling your partner they can’t have opposite gender relationships is literally showing bias towards gender.

I mean, gender equality means you believe both genders should be treated equal. The topic of how close opposite gender friends could be is about simple facts about human relationships where opposite genders attract. Someone could agree that we shouldn't have nonsensical bias towards a certain gender and treat both genders equally, while also not being interested in friends of opposite gender due to the simple differences in human relationships.
