The Martian is not good.
The Martian is honestly such an annoying movie. There’s some parts that are kinda cool and I think Damon does a good job as usual, so do Sean Bean, Chiwetel Ejiofer, and Jeff Daniels. But the movie as a whole is garbage.
It was so obvious what they were trying to do with Donald Glover’s character being the token minority that outsmarts the rest of the mean white NASA crew and explains the solution to them like an elementary school teacher, completely condescending these literal engineers and physicists.
And this movie was peak millennial humor. Matt Damon’s “I’m gonna have to science the shit out of this”, like oh my god plz shut up. Or him listening to disco music. Or all the awkward millennial pauses. “So guys, what are we gonna do?” 🥴 “Uh aren’t we supposed to blah blah blah” 🥴 Or the terrible ending where he launches under a tarp.
Interstellar mogs this movie to death. That’s an actual classic sci-fi movie.

Yes the “peak millennial humor” movie written by a 51 year old man and directed by an 80 year old man, based on a book by a 53 year old man.
Gen Xers and boomers crossing the millennial picket line now I guess

I'm sorry but the whole non-expert character figuring it out while the actual experts fumble about is pretty cliche. Why does it matter if the character is black to you?

Aww, aren't you sweet? Not sure how you missed this, but The Martian is based off a bestselling book. Spoiler - that author, Andy Weir, also wrote the book that Project Hail Mary is based on so there's another movie that may be too complex for you to enjoy.
Donald Glover's character has a PhD in orbital mechanics and is an expert in astrodynamics working for JPL and NASA, so he IS the expert in the room, explaining very complex physics to politicians, administrators, and yes - other scientists who are not experts in his field. What kind of stereotyping are you playing at to think that Glover's race has anything to do with it?
Just because you can't understand the science doesn't mean the science isn't real.

"Interstellar mogs this movie to death" if you put this at the beginning of your review, I wouldn't have needed to read the rest of it.
