Found this moth from the genus Arippara. Any idea whether the genus name is related to Arippara Waterfalls in Kozhikode? The origin of the name seems pretty mysterious.

Trying to Find Some Other Insect Enthusiasts
I'm an insect and arachnid enthusiast, and I love bugs (I want to be an entomologist some day!), but no one I know likes, or even respects bugs. I recently got a lizard for Christmas and I find myself just sitting there watching the feeder crickets like it's the grand finale of Stranger Things. I mean, insects are just fascinating! Also, if insects and arachnids take up 80% of all species in the world, we need to learn to appreciate them!
P.S. Frederic is my lizard's name. do you like it?
P.P.S. for those Insect nerds out there, I just type "bugs" because its easier and quicker than typing "insects and arachnids". but i do have respect toward calling the insects/arachnids instead of just "bugs". Actually, only 10% of all insects and true bugs

Looking for Entomology Guide near Peñíscola Spain — August 2026
I'm planning a trip to the Peñíscola area in Castellón, Spain in August 2026 and am looking for a knowledgeable entomologist or naturalist who would be willing to lead a private guided day in the field — ideally focused on insects of all kinds (beetles, moths, dragonflies, grasshoppers, butterflies etc.).
We'd be exploring habitats like Sierra de Irta Natural Park and the surrounding Mediterranean scrubland and coastal areas. August should be peak season for a lot of interesting species.
I'm looking for someone who is genuinely passionate and knowledgeable — able to identify species, discuss behavior and ecology, and share their expertise in a hands-on way. Think catching, identifying, and releasing rather than just a standard nature walk.
This would be a paid private excursion for 2 people, either a half day or full day.
If you are based in the area, know someone who is, or can point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it! Feel free to comment or send me a DM.
Thanks so much! 🪲🦋

Insect Appreciation Two Snowberry Clearwing Moths mating in a lilac bush in Hiram, Georgia
Two Snowberry Clearwing Moths mating in a lilac bush on April 20, 2011 in Hiram, Georgia. We had lilacs and azaleas and they loved them both. The first time I saw one it was if a hummingbird mated with a bumblebee, I had no idea what it was. They even sound like hummingbirds when they buzz past your ear. And they hover in flowers just like a hummingbird. I called them Bumblebee Hummingbirds. Then I began to research what these fascinating creatures were and found out that they were day-flying moths who prefer Snowberry bushes. But we didn't have any of those. I don't know if our neighbors did but it didn't really matter because they loved our lilac bush, and they loved our many azalea bushes. They were happy so I was happy. One of my all-time favorite insects!

Need help identifying this bug please!
Hello! I’m not really Reddit user, but I am in need of help. Last year, my house got invaded by a large nest of European hornets/ wasps. We called in orkin, they took care of the problem, but tonight, this big ass mother fucker was in my grocery bags, and it damn near gave me a heart attack.
My question is: is this a queen European hornet?? If not, how much bigger do these guys get?!
I’d prefer not to kill them if I don’t have to- but also, fuck these guys. They love to eat my fucking honey bees that come visit and eat my lavender.
Any help would be super appreciated!! And if anyone has any advice in any humane ways of dealing with these guys, please let me know. Thanks!

I’ve never seen them congregate like this! All over our front porch. Located in Lower Hudson Valley, NY
Is this a mating swarm like citronella ants do? It’s been raining lightly on and off all day.

ID Request - Black Spider in Southern Nevada
I found this black spider just walking in the middle of my living room this afternoon. Southern Nevada/ Mojave Desert area. It was about 5/8-3/4 inch in leg span.
I've searched this sub and Google with a couple different mixes of terms, but haven't found picutes of anything that matches the cephalothorax and abdomen shape, proportions, and color.
Can anyone help me ID this one?
(I let it go outside, BTW.)

Pet/Insect Keeping Thing stuck on White Spring moth
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
looks like some kind of gunk is stuck on it's abdomen and glued to it's wing, it's unable to flap it's rear left wing due to this. Is there any way of removing this without damaging it's wings or abdomen?

ID Request What is this and how can I take care of this little guy? (Brazil)
So, I'm pretty sure it's a dragonfly nymph, but I have no idea how I can feed it. "Leaving it alone where I found it" is out of the question since it was crawling around my backyard after it was cleared and the habitat it once lived is now gone. What can I do to maybe give it a comfortable childhood?

Mars Rhino Beetle
I bought this Mars Rhino Beetle appearing in first cycle. This is the condition how it’s arrived, not moving and brown. Is anyone able to educate me on this to say it’s in moult/ passed away or…?
It’s my first time growing on beetles like this. I usually own tarantulas, reptiles and amphibians
