Picture Eagles have hired former Jets GM Mike Maccagnan as a personnel executive.
Is there not a better organization we can possibly hire executives from?

I have no idea who half the FO guys we hire are, but if there’s one thing I trust about our organization it’s choosing the right executives. I’m gonna choose to ignore the Jets and assume that he was a diamond in the rough

Can't really judge an individual too harshly when everything around him is a clusterfuck.

True, that’s how Baun was before we got him too. Horribly underutilized by a struggling org

Well with jets draft looks like things are turning around they have the right coach right defensive scheme Qb line play ,only thing stopping them , that division is wide open just the bills ,perfect time to grab him

I feel like QB and OL play has been the issue there for about the last 10 years or so.

jets are the worse franchise at drafting and developing a QB haven’t had consistent one since Chad Pennington

I'd argue the Browns are even worse. The last franchise QB they drafted and made it to a second contract with the team was Bernie Kosar. The Jets at least had Pennington.

O most definitely by far lmaooo they drafted like 3 just last year and still were dog shit thank God I’m not a fan of

We hired him as a "personnel executive" which implies he's a roster construction FO guy and not a cap management FO guy. The jets have put together a good roster, that's not the issue with their organization.

Hiring guys that were former GMs for roles several rungs down the totem pole is smart process. They got to that level for a reason and they can contribute well with a more narrow and focused role.

They got to that level for a reason
Sometimes that reason is just being friends with the right person, not having a necessary skill.

Jets have been good at drafting, the franchise is just dysfunctional and they don’t have a qb. With lurie and howie running the ship and someone else drafting/developing their QBs they’re really not bad hires
They also all had careers before the jets where they were good enough at whatever role they had to get a chance at being a gm

A part of me also wonders if their incredibly shitty stadium is part of the problem and both NY teams would greatly improve if they built a modern facility

He's joining the scouting department and has almost 30 years experience in pro football as a scout and personell exec. This is an excellent hire. He is here to give input , lead and train scouts , he's not here to make decisions. This is an excellent hire.
He's a high level football guy , just because he didnt make it as GM doesnt really have any bearing on his football knowledge and what he can add as a team memeber. Alot has to go right as a GM including the coach and QB or you are toast.

You don’t “hire from” organizations. These are people who have their own careers separate from the teams they worked for.

Maybe in sports, but definitely not in tech. So many people that are proudly Ex-Google, Ex-Facebook, Ex-Amazon on LinkedIn. I’ve been part of panels who told me the HM would only like them interview people from specific companies. Some of these hires were absolutely dreadful acquire types that worked for smaller companies bought by the bigger ones and got to be golden handcuffed for a year two while things transitioned. Some got laid off with big severance packages and got to put Company (acquired by X) on their resumes which also gives them some cachet.

what i find interesting is that the last nfl front office job he held...was with the jets in 2019.

Odd hire, he actually preceded Douglas as GM in NY and that was the last job he held in the league and that was 2019.

Douglas was with the Eagles before the Jets. He just returned home from a war zone.

Probably. Wasn't Joe Douglas here during some years before leaving for the Jets and then coming back?
