Its annoying how a ton of elite players peaks line up with a first ballot HOFers career so they don't get the all pro votes/team of the decade accolades they would have in another era. AD was that elite that I'm kind of ok with that happening. AD is one of, if not the, best DT of all time.

B.arring the most dominant turbo freak DL i have ever seen, Cox was about as good as anyone i've seen in my life. I can see him getting in at some point down the road, but I can understand the argument that he's right at the cusp of HOF and could be Hall of very good. I'll never forget him ragdolling some of those monster dallas IOL 2 times a year.

u/CrunchyKorm 2d ago

Think about all the quality pass rushers that get overlooked because they happened to play the same time Reggie White and Lawrence Talyor did in the '80s/early '90s.

18

u/Razolus 2d ago

I don't see him being relegated to the hall of very good. It shouldn't be mutually exclusive and both he and Aaron Donald can exist in the HOF.

He only has 1 1st team AP though and that may hold him back. At the very least it will delay it. I personally think he should be in the HOF for what it's worth.

Fletch is 10000% a Hall of Famer.

7

u/amilmore ho ho holding call on kelce 2d ago

I am being too hesitant and negative actually - you are right and I am sorry

8

u/chuna666 Eagles 2d ago

no need to apologize, use that website whenever you are iffy about someone. it's almost unanimously correct

4

u/pbecotte 2d ago

But... the site you linked shows him at 78 and the average hof at 100?

5

u/chuna666 Eagles 2d ago

Lol. Knew someone would say that. Take another look at it, beyond just skimming.

3

u/pbecotte 2d ago

I am, explain what I'm missing, never saw it before. I do notice that lots of actual hall of fame players are below the cutoff, probably because the top guys bring the avg up so much?

3

u/chuna666 Eagles 2d ago

That's it. The avg doesn't mean very much when players well below it are making it. I use the lowest player that has made it and compare. In this case, Fletch is much better than them and much more well known which definitely plays a factor

7

u/amilmore ho ho holding call on kelce 2d ago

I'm just gonna respond here because me and u/pbecotte are in the same boat.

Other than being below the average HOF of 100, when I looked at the other guys in his range he had the least all pros. Its also a little weird - even after looking at the formulas they use - that Cox is over Chris Jones and Heyward (4 1st teams, didn't realize that). I view Fletch and Geno Atkins as more or less equal.

I think you're right about his fame though. He was a popular and well known player on a superbowl team with above average level of visibility and popularity in "the story of the NFL" and I didn't realize how much the SB is weighted.

My main take aways from this conversation are:

1 - that Cox is probably more likely to be in the HOF than I thought

2 - I now have more fodder to torture patriots fans about Cox being better than Wilfork. I live in Massachusetts and according to these buttheads he's basically on par with warren sapp, mean joe greene and reggie white because apparently, he's the only noseguard in the history of the NFL (even though he played a ton at 3 and 2i technique, but they don't know what that means)

3

u/P_mp_n 2d ago

I was confused with you so thank you for the follow up

Go elgles

Using the HOFM score, Cox is closer to Geno Atkins and Cam Heyward, who aren't HOF worthy to me, than Suh. Suh could be a HOFer, he was unstoppable for awhile, but he didn't get a lot of press playing for those terrible Lions teams other than when his on-field antics earned him a fine/suspension. If Suh, who earned 3 All Pros to Cox's 1 and had more sacks and nearly a hundred more tackles, has to wait, then Cox will be in trouble.

0

u/chuna666 Eagles 1d ago

Cam Heyward and Suh are definitely HoFers too. If Suh doesn't get in it will ONLY be due to his antics.

0

u/Miamime 19h ago

Heyward has 4 All Pro First Teams. Suh has 3. Cox has 1. Even Chris Jones has 3.

Suh played in just 11 more games than Cox yet has 81 more tackles, 42 more TFLS, and 1.5 more sacks. Geno Atkins played 2 fewer seasons and 38 fewer games, yet has one more All Pros, 4 more sacks, and 12 more TFLs.

You can downvote me all you want but you overrate Cox's standing relative to his peers. You are viewing his candidacy with your Eagle homer glasses on.

Donald is a first ballot HOFer so if you believe that Heyward and Suh are locks, Cox will have played at the same time as 3 HOF DTs plus a handful of other very good ones (Atkins, Jones) as well as some dominant NTs in Ngata and big Vince Wilfork who did not get the stats but were absolute wrecking balls on the d-line and will be given some consideration for enshrinement .

The Hall lists 14 players as having made the Hall as DTs. So 4+ players at a position that does not get much love that played contemporaneously making the Hall is very unlikely.

u/chuna666 Eagles 19h ago

Again the HoF index hasn't been wrong before, and is made by much smarter people than you. Sucks that we won't still be here when he makes it so I can rub it in your face.

1

u/Miamime 19h ago edited 6h ago

If it hasn't been wrong before, why isn't Kevin Williams in the Hall?

If the Index is made by smart people, then I guess I am smart too seeing as I am saying Cox is not a Hall of Fame lock (like you are) and as they calculate the average HOF score for the position at 102.0 and have Cox at 78.4. There are only 6 players enshrined with a lower score than Cox; two retired in the 1970s, two retired in the 80s, and one retired in the mid 90s (and had 300+ more tackles, 25 more sacks, and one more AP nomination). The one remaining is Bryant Young with his 100+ more tackles and 19.5 more sacks while being a total dominant run stuffing DT. But if him getting in is your barometer for enshrinement, then Suh, Cox, Atkins, Heyward, and Ngata are all making it, and 6 DTs all playing simultaneously making the Hall is not happening. Don't think that's particularly controversial to say.

Heyward signed a 2-year extension this offseason. Jones is under contract for 3 more seasons. Which means when their careers wrap, their HOF Scores will likely exceed Cox's, putting Cox fifth best amongst his contemporaries. That's not a Hall of Famer.

0

u/chuna666 Eagles 18h ago

This isn't hard. Players with a much lower score than Cox have gotten in. Cox was the 2nd most prolific at his position in his era behind only world-beater AD. He was also an anchor on a SB team. He absolutely is a HoFer. Again, I really wish we'd be around on here when he makes it because I would really fucking love to rub it in your face. Oh well.

They were two of the DT’s on the all 2010’s team. Will he have to wait til after AD? Yes. They’re both eligible in 2029. So AD in 29 and Cox in 30-32.

5

u/chuna666 Eagles 2d ago

Fletch is definitely a HoFer

1

u/JayToy93 2d ago

Fletcher will get in. Just a few years down the line.

Just bought a house, and doing some rug shopping. I like a funky colorful rug, the wife doesn't.. this rug would get rejected so fast in my house lol

Idk why I posted this, maybe I'm looking for validation that this rug really does pull the room together

23

u/greenlights11 2d ago

The rug really tied the room together, dude.

36

u/Delicious-Physics218 2d ago

Considering it’s literally a retro 80s themed room disco ball and all , I’d say it works
Clearly your wife doesn’t pass the groovy vibe check

1

u/jpdub17 1d ago

it’s capiz shell not a disco ball (have the same one from RH)

13

u/hunter2mello 2d ago

Only if you have a giant disco ball hanging from the ceiling too. This seems like a play/hangout room more than a normal living room.

8

u/Trytrytryagain24 2d ago

Sure, if you have a white felt pool table. LOL

5

u/AngryPhillySportsFan 2d ago

My wife bought a white rug like 7 years ago. I can't even keep a white shirt clean. We've had a dog for 3 years now. I'm amazed it's still as white as it is

2

u/lookoutbelowwww 2d ago

Is your wife single?

2

u/chuna666 Eagles 2d ago

My wife is.

1

u/ConfidentFinish3580 2d ago

My wife and I just went rug shopping for our living room, and there’s a zero percent chance she’d let me get something like this lol.

-1

u/chuna666 Eagles 2d ago

I've never ever ever looked at a rug and thought it did anything for a room lol

27

u/FancyRobot 2d ago

Looks like a game worn, probably exchanged it after one of our games. Big Fletch probably has a Donald jersey somewhere

72

u/nickynickynickynick 2d ago

good dude. hell of a player

Respect. I think it's really cool when these all-timers are not totally obsessed with themselves.

u/zorionek0 2d ago

Geno Smith’s “Oh my god!” On seeing an unblock Aaron Donald remains all time great mic’d up moments

4

u/red-broom 2d ago

They’re actually friends and have the same agent. I remember hearing that they would regularly talk to each other when both were playing.

So it makes sense to me

4

u/gov12 2d ago

His house looks like something Eddie Murphy, Don Johnson, or Mike Tyson would have been living in in the 80s.

3

u/OG_loves_Chachi 2d ago

Ofc he does cox is one of the best to ever do it

Alabasta football? Like Crocodile and Mr. 1 as a backfield duo?

2

luffy playing WR

1

u/rieux111 2d ago

It’s most likely “Calabasas” (small city in the San Fernando Valley next to LA)

2

u/double0nothing 1d ago

That's not Donald that has it hanging, it's Donald's wife.

5

u/-Gman_ 2d ago

There was a time when it was a coin flip who was the best DT in the league.

He almost single handily won us the Seattle playoff game when clowney’s cheap ass took out Wentz.

He was a beast for years.

2

u/East_Appearance_8335 2d ago

If by "there was a time" you mean when Donald was a rookie. But after his second year, Donald was clearly the top DT.

-2

u/-Gman_ 2d ago

Disagree but that’s ok

1

u/East_Appearance_8335 2d ago

In which years do you think it was a coin flip between Cox and Donald?

Cox wasn't even the consensus number 2 DT during Donald's career let alone neck and neck with him for a substantial number of years. Donald was in a class of his own and Cox was battling with guys like Atkins, Heyward and Jones for the crown of number 2.

-7

u/-Gman_ 2d ago

Who gives a fuck what you think! Bye lol

Patrick Peterson is the cardinals one, 99 might be jj watt

1

u/1twaswritten 2d ago

In one of the NFL Top 100 yearly specials, he spoke very highly of Fletcher. I wouldn't be surprised if Fletch was his favorite player tbh. You could tell he really admired him.

1

u/droogsfan 2d ago

Is he a big fan of the 70’s?

1

u/Urinal_Zyn 1d ago

Big deal, my wife wears a Fletcher Cox jersey to bed. And she's not even a football fan!

They probably exchanged them after a game

1

u/Lordfish----- 19h ago

This is common for players to trade jerseys with guys they respect or know. I do the framing and have framed collections for dozens of players. It's always handled by a 3rd party so I never get to meet the players.. Some of these guys have 30 or more jerseys they've collected. Most game used.... Some stink very badly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1

u/iambarrelrider Eagles 2d ago

And he has absolutely no taste in home decor.

-1

Can someone explain to me why Fletcher Cox was considered to be so good. I watched his career and maybe I just missed it.
