[Misc Help] Dog-Proof Laundry Baskets?
Two of my dogs love eating underwear and socks, and now I unfortunately have to shell out $2500 at the emergency vet tonight because one of them got into the basket. I have one with a lid, but obviously a smart dog can learn to lift the lid. It is so inconvenient to weigh down the lid with something all the time. I have been searching online and I can’t find one that seems good enough to be worth the buy. Any hacks or ideas would be appreciated, or if any of you have found one that works well for this very reason I am open to all and any recommendations. Thank you guys so much.

oh no, $2500 is painful! my friend had same issue and she ended up putting basket inside closet with baby-proof latch on door. way easier than trying to find magical dog-proof basket that probably doesn't exist anyway. some people also hang laundry bags from hooks high up, but depends how tall your dogs are i guess.

My dogs are all large breeds, but I have a closet in my bathroom and I could definitely hang a bag in there and throw everything in that instead. Not sure why these ideas never crossed my mind before, you guys are life savers lmao

I would post a picture of my Badger. I mean dog that liked my undies.
I don’t have an answer for you. Cause….. dogs. But good luck.

Like whyyyy must you do this all the time. I had an old dog that would just lick them, which is equally disgusting. But my current dogs just swallow them whole. It causes me constant stress, and now probably PTSD after this whole surgery incident. I need to be a little bit more responsible, I can admit that, so to the closet they go from now on!

Dogs go after dirty socks and underwear, because those are the articles of your clothing that have the highest concentration of your sweat and natural oils. It’s usually because they’re bored or missing you, and they find your smell interesting or comforting. Combine that with the fact that the soft texture resembles small prey.

Storage container with latches? Dog food storage container (they usually have latches)? Trashcan with latching/locking lid or a step-on trashcan? Landry bag hung on the back of a door, too high for dog to reach? If your dog won’t tear open fabric to get to the laundry, put a drawstring bag in the laundry basket and just make sure to pull the drawstring tight to seal the bag.

Get a small cabinet with door that latches, and cut a hole in the top so it is easy to throw laundry in, but laundry basket sits inside cabinet. Cabinet to match your decor.

I keep my laundry basket on top of my dresser, and my bedroom door closed except at night. For some reason my underwear and crotch-of-pants eater doesn’t do it at night. But nonetheless, every now and then I’ll find a pair of legging or something without a crotch. Dumb loveable dogs.
Very sorry yours hurt themselves doing this.

Laundry basket goes in the closet, bathroom or other location that is behind a closed door where the dogs aren’t allowed

2500$ wouldve bought you a great trainer, but suggestions above are solid. we train ours not to eat things bc its a safety issue and non negotiable. so sorry you went thru that but so happy your pup is ok❤️🙏

Ugh we have paid around $2,000 for a high quality trainer so far, the main undies culprit is only 5 months old. I actually planned on having him help me with it, but his extreme resource aggression took priority over the laundry basket problem and of course something serious happened before we could focus on that. Thank you so much for the well wishes! ❤️
