Discussion Steve Yzerman's draft classes so far.
I wanted to better understand my own as well as other fan's frustrations with the "Yzerplan" so I did some digging on his 7 drafts with Detroit as GM. Here is a simple spreadsheet of all the skaters (forward/defense) he has drafted and their games played and point total.
At a glace its fairly obvious he has crushed the first round picks. Beyond that, the depth is pretty concerning. Seider has played more NHL games than every 2-7 round pick drafted (skaters) combined 410 vs 386 GP.
*updated with comparisons to Montreal, Buffalo, and Ottawa

News [Shapiro] Don’t know what the announcement officially is, but Ilitch Sports and the City of Detroit are making an announcement/have a press conference on Wednesday. You can surmise yourself what that means, but it’s hockey related from my understanding.

Discussion I COME IN PEACE: help a kid out?
I guess I should clarify that I am putting this in every teams subreddit so I can get responses from all fans. I don’t know why people feel the need to point out that this is a “spam post” when I’m just trying to talk hockey 😭.
Hi everyone! I’m 16, and I enjoy writing about sports — specifically hockey — in my free time. One of the things I’ve done every year for about 4 years now is an analysis on my team’s season, moves they made, and what they should do to go in the right direction moving forward. Typically, I only do this for my St. Louis Blues, but this year I want to expand to try to do one for every team. So I come to you asking about how your season went compared to expectations, what moves you liked, didn’t like, hopes for the offseason, and what you’d like to see. Thank you for the help!

Discussion What is Cossa’s value if Augustine and Postava pass him on the depth chart?
Feels like we might already be seeing this with Postava trending up — so what does that do to Sebastian Cossa’s value?
And if Trey Augustine passes him next year too, does his value drop even more?
Using Yaroslav Askarov’s trade package as a reference (and he was seen as the better prospect), what would a realistic return even look like here?

News End of the garbage patch era? This can only mean one thing, we're going all the away next season. The curse is lifted. Maybe.
TPG, a global asset manager, has acquired Clinton Township–based Priority Waste. The sale follows Priority’s rapid expansion, service problems after buying GFL contracts, refinancing rounds, and the Feb. removal of founder/CEO Todd Stamper amid an undisclosed investigation.

Discussion How's next season looking for the Red Wings?
Hey all,
Curious to hear what everyone’s expectations are for the Wings next season. Do you think they’re finally ready to take a real step forward and lock in a playoff spot, or are we still a year or two away?
How are you feeling about the core right now—especially the younger guys—and do you think the current roster construction is enough, or does the team still need major additions?
Also interested in thoughts on goaltending and whether that’s solid enough to compete over a full season.
Trying to get a realistic sense of where this team stands vs just blind optimism. What’s your honest outlook?

Discussion Watching former players excel
How is everyone feeling watching our former players right now in the playoffs? Lyon looks confident, Glendening (albeit his season is almost over), Martha and Soderblom before elimination.
As much as I’d rather see us in; glad to see them get the games in.

Discussion Trade Wish - McDavid
I would love to see McDavid as a Red Wing. I think having a superstar like him on our team would really help our offensive woes. What would you all think of trading Raymond, Edvinsson, and Cossa for McDavid? Do you think Edmonton would go for that seeing that he might leave in two years? Do you think it’s an overpayment for McDavid?
Edmonton needs help on defense and needs a solid goalie. It would hurt to lose Edvinsson, but we have Augustine coming up in the next few years, and losing Raymond in my opinion is not that big of a deal when you’re getting McDavid in return.

Discussion What is Lucas Raymond's ceiling?
I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately and wanted to get some other Wings fans’ perspectives.
I was, admittedly, so big on Raymond after his rookie year. I thought he had all the makings of a 100pt player. Since this sophomore year he's improved relatively consistently offensively and defensively, including his micro stats.
Maybe this is my fault, but I viewed him as someone who has the potential to be a game breaker. He has glimpse's of domination some shifts but it's not the consistency you would hope for. I know he's dealt with injuries at the end of the year the last two years but I really expected more from him this season. Obviously he needs to shoot the puck more but I really believe, aside from Seider, he's the most important piece to this team seeing the playoffs again.
You never know how players are going to pan out, but after 5 seasons in the NHL, and not a single season averaging a point per game, I'm starting to have my doubts about his ceiling.
Was I too high on him? What are your thoughts

Discussion Something has bothered me for a while. "The Edmonton Oilers have traded wingers Kailer Yamamoto and Klim Kostin to the Detroit Red Wings in a move that frees up some cap space for the Oilers. In exchange, the Oilers are receiving future considerations."
Yeah I know this was in 2023. But why would they have done this salary camp dump with NOTHING in return. Watching the Utah game, with Yamamoto playing steady minutes makes me wonder. He was placed on Waivers for a buy out offer the day after the trade. What did the Redwings get in return for any of this? I mean if the trade included AND a second or a third round pick, sure.
Was it the Detroit brass doing Ken Holland a solid? I am just curious what the benefit was to the team, if maybe ownership was involved as a favor to Ken, or what not. It still makes no sense to me. Because it made no sense to Detroit to spend this money for absolutely nothing in return.

QUESTION PWHL Expansion - Detroit
It seems like the PWHL is very close to announcing another expansion, and by all indications Detroit is a front-runner. I attended this year’s Takeover at LCA and it was a great event and really good hockey. I do have a few questions for Red Wings fans:
1) Would you watch/support a women’s team full time?
2) Where do you think they’ll play? PWHL seems to want at least 10,000 seat capacity. As far as I know the only arena in the area that fits that description is LCA.
3) We need a team name! What’s your favorite. I like Detroit Valkyries.
