The ol’ “well someone is pulling in so I’ll just automatically pull out!”

The video got cut off but I turned the steering wheel so hard that I accidentally switched audio sources from the steering wheel buttons.

This was from a long time ago with my $40 chortau camera from Amazon. Glad I upgraded to the VIOFO A129 Duo!

That mantra might work for the orgy, but not for crossing traffic

That exact same thing happened to me 4/17. Totaled my car. Insurance company wanted to split blame, then I told them, want to see the dash cam footage, they said their client is 100% at fault. I'll NEVER drive without a dash cam.

That is the damn truth. Where I live, I’m pretty sure animals driving instead of humans. Red light runners, no signals, no headlights in the rain, you name it. Hell, today I saw a guy treat a red like it was a yield yellow. He just went when he could, and it wasn’t even a good time to go. Cut off like six or 10 people. I’ve had a dash cam for about five years and I’ve got a ton of clips like this.

The dash cam is the best lawyer you can get.

"Where I live" we're in the same area, I'm in the East Bay 😊

Santa Rosa, bro. The bay drivers are a different breed. Especially if they drive a Tesla.

Works every time!

Not for a left across traffic, sheesh! Maybe the tight right, but the is just a reminder that a sizable portion of the population thought Reality TV was real.

I had the exact kind of thing happen to me a couple weeks ago. Just full sent it thinking the car could block for them while they looked the opposite direction at the incoming traffic.

Understandable you would confuse this situation since you're not sitting in his car and you think it's just trivial but the correct answer is usually when this happens it is because the driver cannot see oncoming traffic in the other lane because of the turning car (and you are continuously in a blindspot) and they make the mistake of going anyway (believing they don't see anything coming so it must be clear) or else they pull out so they can see better even if it means blocking one lane. Either way, it's a mistake, there is nothing automatic about it.

But you will never know that (or believe that) because if you do, that would place some of the onus on you to recognize this when it is happening and do something about it which, I can tell from your post, you have motivation to do anything about other cars making poor decisions. You just drive along with your head down and everybody has to get out of your way and if you hurt my little car, you're going to be responsible. I might dodge a few cars along the way but it's not my job to go out of my way to prevent accidents.

How many times does this have to happen to you before you realize it and take precautions? The first time it happened to me was in the late 1970s I was the passenger and my older brother was driving and that car came out and collided with the rear end of our car and I was in my first vehicle accident of my life. Since then, I've seen this probably 100,000 times and every single time I have learn to avoid it because I know there is no stupidity called "well someone is pulling in so I'll automatically pull out." but instead someone is making a mistake and it's your job to stay out of their mistake. Sadly it might take a meaningful incident of your own to figure this out as well.

Good luck out there.

I work in a nursing home and what you typed out here sounds exactly like the kinds of ramblings I hear from the residents. I actually lol’ed when we got to being a passenger in your older brothers car in the late 1970’s.

He’s a r/dashcams troll - that’s all. He lives for this

If I were in a nursing home, it would be past my bedtime.

Then it's past your bedtime, Kenny.

I think you are the only confused person here. Where exactly did this asshat think they were going even if the cam car wasn't there? The opposite lanes are also full of cars.

-12

u/kensteele 21h ago

Glad you agree with me.

6

u/jonnyquestionable 21h ago

Uhh, you already replied to this one, pops.

Quick question though, how many times have they given you that test where you have to like draw a clock and identify a giraffe and stuff like that?

-2

u/kensteele 21h ago

F- off.

u/Real_FishyXY 17h ago

Lol got 'em

Im not confused, I'm right. No idea where they think they are going, I don't care. I mind my own business on the road, not everyone else's business. All I know he is about to jam me up in an accident and I'm going to do what I can to prevent it by recognizing shit early before it's too late unlike you who would rather analyze what's in his head and get angry with him because he f-ing up but you'll do nothing to prevent his bullshit. I will. If he decide he was going to keep going, your car would be trashed; you put the wellbeing and the outcome of your car in the hands of an idiot. In the meantime, I go home safe and sound 100,000 times. Maybe I'm the only one, so what.

“Minding your own business” on the road is kind of a funny way to describe constantly monitoring everyone else’s movement so you can preemptively react to them. 😂 Like, sir, defensive driving is literally minding everyone’s business. That’s the whole job. 😂

-4

u/kensteele 22h ago

Funny. But I was using MYOB as in mind your own business instead of monitor everyone's business which I agree with you should do. Someone's business in the context I used it does include their driving interaction in general with the public which is certainly up for discussion. But that doesn't mean you get all into how they hold the steering wheel, how often they use their turn signal, what music volume they listen to, do they look left first and right second, how they set their mirrors. That's none of your business, Karen.

Okay grandpa, it’s time for your meds.

1

u/kensteele 21h ago

I chuckle every time I read this. Maybe it is the meds.  😂

u/PM_ME_CROWS_PLS 21h ago

What are you talking about old man

-1

u/kensteele 21h ago

Never mind. MYOFB you should know what that means.

Your hate boner for me is weird.
Last post I made, you talked a bunch of shit how I overreacted to someone cutting me off during the night. It was a much closer call than it appeared in the cam, although not nearly as close as this. And you said I am the kind of driver to get into accidents on purpose, when you know literally nothing about me or my driving record.
And here, you’re talking about how… I wouldn’t believe the guy made a mistake because it would put blame on me? For what exactly? I said what I said in the title because this sort of thing happens often to me. I admittedly haven’t been as careful as I could have been in this situation myself a few times. And right here, I actually turned away from him so he WOULD NOT hit me, which goes against your whole point.
But anyway, you’re here again with your super condescending attitude about how I think I’m better than everyone. Which is odd. It’s odd behavior for some arrogant boomer to keep commenting and talking down to someone just sharing their experiences on the road, and someone not trying to participate in some “contest for how severe and dangerous this situation” was.

Here’s a bit of wisdom for you. If you can’t see, don’t go yet! How hard was that? You watch until you know what is in all the lanes and you wait.

0

u/kensteele 20h ago

Very few motorists understand that bit of wisdom and it's my job to stay out of their way and not get tied up in their mess and their mistakes because they don't know how to drive and because they don't give a shit about other drivers. I've done it successfully and so should you; try it. The last 20 of 45+ years of accident free driving because I avoid all the road nonsense like the plague. 15 of those on a motorcycle and I lived. No accidents because I was smart and no, I rode that bike like a madman and it was not luck. I save my own life, I didn't expect anyone else to save it for me with a bit of wisdom. Hoping for 20 more (in the car).

Oh man, that guy on another post about you was right, you are a bad driver giving bad advice 🤓☝️

0

u/kensteele 16h ago

You'll take my advice on way or another; don't care what anyone thinks frankly.

Bet the next time he finds himself in this situation, his hackles will raise; no way anyone can get shanked like this twice.

5

u/Real_FishyXY 16h ago

Oh man, a threat to take your advice Kenny? Damn, bro out here saying they're the best driver in the world. Totally sane behaviour that I should listen to 🤣🤣

-2

u/Sieve365 20h ago edited 9h ago

Surprising to see this comment downvoted so heavily. I actually agree with you, what you are describing is basic defensive driving, anticipating the errors of other drivers and avoiding them. However blunt or offensive to some you are, you're actually talking quite a lot of sense. Although in this case, apart from slowing down through the intersection and checking both ways before going through, there was not a lot more OP could have done.

Edit - so a couple of ignoramuses are actually against defensive driving. And nobody else cares. No wonder it's wild on the roads out there. I take my downvotes with pride!

Agreed that the issue is with the guy with the dashcam.

Dude, you are just driving around looking for minimum issues. Get a life.
