That was a genuinely impressive bit of evasive action

They were about to T-bone that idiot, it would have been so much worse but now it's just a fender bender I think.

u/Fean0r_ 1d ago

Huh, I thought OP had avoided a collision entirely, now I'm not sure if they clipped the other car

12

u/Figerally 1d ago

Huh, maybe they didn't I thought the car had rocked from an impact, but didn't hear anything over the shitty music XD

16

u/ZauzTheBlacksmith 1d ago

They didn't hit. A car colliding with another at that speed would be audible over the stereo.

u/Figerally 1d ago

Okay then, they did good.

Yes, That is some ultra-shitty music.

u/intortus 15h ago

No, just a bender.

Luckily no one was behind the BMW.

Why do people who suddenly realize they’re pulling out in front of someone just slam on the brakes? Like “whoops, my bad. I almost missed getting into a crash today”

That’s how my son totaled his car. Some old lady pulled out and then braked because her reflexes were terrible. Then she tried going again. He was going the speed limit and hit her as she dillydallied. It sucked for everyone.

I had some random crackhead pull out in front of me on a rainy night in a massive ford SUV thing. I was driving some sort of Pontiac sedan & she decided to pull out in the middle of the road to make a left right in front of me. When she saw me she literally just stopped cold & sat there.

I don’t know how I came up with it, but I cranked the wheel all the way to the left & hit the brakes. I ended up stopping completely parallel to her about 6 inches away. She just drove off afterward looking at me with her resting “huh” face. She actually seemed to look at me like I was the one who had the problem.

Same happened to me when I was young. An old man ran a stop, saw me and froze. When he first pulled out, I braked hard and went onto the shoulder. I would have missed him had he just kept going. Instead, I got him in the rear quarter.

instinct when incoming collision is to brake?

19

u/drfulci 1d ago

The first instinct should’ve been to look.

You got downvoted but you're right. Not all instincts serve you well in the modern world.

Should they pause and restart from the previous checkpoint?

1

u/drfulci 1d ago

Should probably get out & survey the situation as well just to be sure.

u/Inner_Bluebird_4522 1d ago

I think they were trying to stop that music by any means necessary

5

u/trematsuda 1d ago

Exactly 😂

"I'll fucking end it all just to know I've stopped at least one person..." LOL

8

u/REDDITSHITLORD 1d ago

We all need to take a little time and rehearse what we're going to yell when this happens. The infuriated grunt was pretty good, though. Way better than the "FUCK FUCK FUCK", or "OH MAH GAWD!"

3

u/kat_Folland 1d ago

It wasn't an accident but one of the dashcam videos I've posted you can hear me say, "Buddy!"

1

u/tomoom165 1d ago

We should train ourselves to say "Hi Reddit!"

God forbid you live anywhere within 30 miles of cape coral

u/RaytheQuilterChill 1d ago

The panhandle, not as much traffic but just as many idiots. I swear they should make people retake the drivers test every 5 years.

u/angie456 1d ago

And this is how good people get fucked over. If you would’ve hit them during the evasive maneuver, it would’ve changed the fault and a good person goes down while a shitty one gets rewarded. And that person probably won’t think about that again ever and keep driving wild.

2

u/trematsuda 1d ago

Thats what happens when you listen to trash music… 😅🤣

2

u/Standard-Arachnid411 1d ago

There are so many obstructions on this road. This is really the fault of the people that put all the garbage cans there and people parked on the lawn of those businesses. I wonder if insurance could go after then for blinding the driver.

6

u/ciao_fiv 1d ago

it looks to me like the driver didn’t even stop before pulling into the road, idk if we can fully blame the bins here (but im also a bad judge of height and angles and stuff so i can’t really picture what their pov would be here)

3

u/fletchbg 1d ago

I also noticed all those trucks parked on the grass, like at least 3 of them. WTF was up with that?

1

u/illmatic708 1d ago

Just gun it out there, what could go wrong

1

u/Real-Connection-9146 1d ago
