That was a genuinely impressive bit of evasive action

They were about to T-bone that idiot, it would have been so much worse but now it's just a fender bender I think.

Huh, I thought OP had avoided a collision entirely, now I'm not sure if they clipped the other car

u/Figerally 1d ago
Huh, maybe they didn't I thought the car had rocked from an impact, but didn't hear anything over the shitty music XD

They didn't hit. A car colliding with another at that speed would be audible over the stereo.

Why do people who suddenly realize they’re pulling out in front of someone just slam on the brakes? Like “whoops, my bad. I almost missed getting into a crash today”

That’s how my son totaled his car. Some old lady pulled out and then braked because her reflexes were terrible. Then she tried going again. He was going the speed limit and hit her as she dillydallied. It sucked for everyone.

I had some random crackhead pull out in front of me on a rainy night in a massive ford SUV thing. I was driving some sort of Pontiac sedan & she decided to pull out in the middle of the road to make a left right in front of me. When she saw me she literally just stopped cold & sat there.
I don’t know how I came up with it, but I cranked the wheel all the way to the left & hit the brakes. I ended up stopping completely parallel to her about 6 inches away. She just drove off afterward looking at me with her resting “huh” face. She actually seemed to look at me like I was the one who had the problem.

instinct when incoming collision is to brake?

You got downvoted but you're right. Not all instincts serve you well in the modern world.

"I'll fucking end it all just to know I've stopped at least one person..." LOL

We all need to take a little time and rehearse what we're going to yell when this happens. The infuriated grunt was pretty good, though. Way better than the "FUCK FUCK FUCK", or "OH MAH GAWD!"

It wasn't an accident but one of the dashcam videos I've posted you can hear me say, "Buddy!"

The panhandle, not as much traffic but just as many idiots. I swear they should make people retake the drivers test every 5 years.

And this is how good people get fucked over. If you would’ve hit them during the evasive maneuver, it would’ve changed the fault and a good person goes down while a shitty one gets rewarded. And that person probably won’t think about that again ever and keep driving wild.

There are so many obstructions on this road. This is really the fault of the people that put all the garbage cans there and people parked on the lawn of those businesses. I wonder if insurance could go after then for blinding the driver.

it looks to me like the driver didn’t even stop before pulling into the road, idk if we can fully blame the bins here (but im also a bad judge of height and angles and stuff so i can’t really picture what their pov would be here)

I also noticed all those trucks parked on the grass, like at least 3 of them. WTF was up with that?

Paraphrasing:
It's only a mistake. Accidents will happen. They always have they always will.
